Crafty Cooking Kits

IMAGE This week’s recipe was submitted to us by 12 year old Shane in Pennsylvania. Shane says, "The recipe is very easy to prepare and tastes delicious warm or at room temperature."

Banana Slammer Bread

Tools needed:

1 cup dry measuring cup
1/3 cup dry measuring cup
1/4 cup dry measuring cup
1 teaspoon measuring spoon
1/4 teaspoon measuring spoon
butter knife
loaf pan
large bowl
mixer
oven mitt or pot holder

Ingredients:

2 and 1/2 cups mashed bananas
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter or margarine
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour

Instructions:
This recipe requires cooking on the stove or in the oven. Practice safety around open flame and always use an oven mitt when removing something from the oven.
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

2. Grease one loaf pan

3. Peel and mash bananas.

4. Put bananas, butter or margarine, sugar and eggs in large bowl and beat with mixer until well blended. Mixture may be lumpy.

5. Add salt and baking soda and mix well.

6. Add flour and mix until very well blended.

7. Pour batter into loaf pan and put pan in oven.

This recipe requires the use of kitchen scissors, a knife or blender/food processor. Please be careful when handling sharp objects. Have a grown up around in case you need help. 8. Bake for 1 and 1/2 hours or until a butter knife poked in the center comes out clean.

9. Take carefully from oven and let cool for 15 minutes.

10. Remove from pan and enjoy

Prep time: 15 minutes
Serves: 8

NOTE:
MomsMenu, FamilyCorner, and Crafty Cooking Kits are excited that your children enjoy being in the kitchen. While it is a lot of fun to cook, it is also a big responsibility and caution should be exercised with certain recipes. Whenever there is cooking involved, you will see the red "HOT" button on that particular recipe. Should cutting or chopping be necessary, the orange "SHARP" button will appear. Parents, Please always supervise your children while in the kitchen, never leave your kids alone while cooking, cutting, or handling food. Let’s keep the cooking experience happy and safe!

While there are many reasons for teaching kids to cook -- less expensive than eating out, preserves family heritage, etc, the most important reason is that by teaching your child to cook, you're giving him a better chance to be a healthy grown-up. Enabling your child with the ability to appreciate freshness and to transform ingredients into tasty foods opens their eyes to making wiser choices about what to eat...
