Mother's Day Projects Stretch Kids' Imaginations with Innovative Chocolate Flavors
Ask any mom about her favorite Mother's Day gift and she'll most likely describe a handmade card, fresh-baked cake, or handpicked flowers. That's because nothing touches a mother's heart quite as much as something - anything - lovingly created by her child. Mother's Day is one holiday that's inherently meant for homemade gifts, where a child's effort and creativity best expresses the spirit of the day.
From a child's perspective, this is the best time to repay mom for her kindness all 365 days of the year. While most children are eager to reward their moms with the best they have to offer, their resources often are limited and require a little outside help.
That's where Chocolat Frey comes in. Celebrating its first Mother's Day in America, Switzerland's #1 chocolate maker is offering a helping hand to children and their adult guides looking for inspiration and a unique way to say, "I love you, Mom."
Swiss children don't need medical studies to tell them that chocolate is the food women crave most - in fact, it's practically considered an essential food group in the chocolate capital of the world! That's why, on "Muttertag," Swiss children often honor their mamas with a "plaque" of fine chocolate. They know that chocolate can be good for the heart in more ways than one.
Following this time-honored tradition, Chocolat Frey offers innovative projects for kids to create with dads who don't cook, caregivers who do, or mothers who want to honor grandmothers or aunts. This is a perfect opportunity to release your inner child and help other children stretch their imaginations with a variety of unique European flavors, such as Pécan & Caramel or Bouquet d'Oranges. The following recipes have been kid-tested for both ease of assembly and good taste! These gift ideas are as much fun for the children as for the mothers who receive them.
Pécan & Caramel Coffee
If you're planning to reward mom with breakfast in bed, start with some of the sweetest coffee this side of Switzerland. Simply place two squares of a Frey Pécan & Caramel bar into a child-painted ceramic coffee mug, pour in brewed coffee, and stir well. You'll know the chocolate is melted when you see the pecan bits float to the top.
Breakfast-on-the-Run
For a mom on the run - one who doesn't have time for breakfast in bed - send her off with a breakfast-to-go. Put a peeled banana in one of her hands and an open Frey Café & Cacao bar in the other, give her a big hug, and tell her to take alternate bites as she travels. Yum!
Chocolate Love Notes
From sunup to sundown, kids can leave chocolate love notes scattered around the house for mom to find and enjoy. Similar to a fortune cookie, the chocolate bundles unwrap to reveal a message, each one handwritten by a special child in mom's life. For this project, choose a Frey chocolate bar flavor that best matches your mother's personality (go to www.chocolat-frey.com for a complete flavor list). Or, if your mother's style is hard to pinpoint, use a different flavor with each note. Write on strips of brightly colored paper different reasons why you love your mom and what makes her special. Break eight squares off the chocolate bar, snapping it along the scored lines. Cut eight-inch strips of colored plastic wrap. Wrap a paper note around a chocolate square and place it in the middle of the plastic wrap. Bring the corners of the plastic wrap together and twist them so the chocolate stays in place. Secure the wrap with a ribbon. Repeat these steps with the remaining notes and chocolate squares.
