Not sure where this recipe originated but it was given to me by my mother probably 18 to 20 years ago.

1 to 1 1/2 pounds boneless chicken thighs
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce

Mix sugar, vinegar and soy sauce in pan and heat over medium high heat until boiling. Add chicken and cook through, turning to brown both sides and evenly coat chicken pieces.

I have even made the sauce on it's own and served it over rice as it has a similar taste to terriyaki sauce, just not as sweet.

That sounds really good! I think I will use the sauce over some rice as we really eat a lot of rice and I'm always looking for ways to fix it,thanks!

Rbeccers, does this have a similar flavor as a type of sweet and sour type chicken?

DeBora43 - Yes it does have a similar taste to sweet and sour chicken.

Something else that I have done with the recipe to give it an even sweeter taste is to substitute honey for some or all of the sugar.

Do you exchange the honey in the same amount as the sugar?

Thanks Rbeccers. I rarely eat sugar, especialy on meat, except on sweet and sour things. Thanks. I will have to try.

Oopps, should have said that, yes I do exchange the honey in the same amount as the sugar. The sauce will be a little bit thinner when using the honey but the taste is still great. For those trying to stay away from refined sugar, using the honey is a great alternative. Have fun with the recipe.

Thanks. That's good to know since I am not supposed to have the sugar and I can have a bit more of the honey.
