I have some friends that have had a horrible time making rice; I gave them this recipe and they love it; they can make rice now!
1 cup converted rice
2 cups water
2 tsp salt
1 tbsp butter
Place all ingredients together in the slow cooker, cover, and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours. That's it! It can cook this way and stay perfect and even after it is done stays perfect if left in the pot.

What is converted rice? I don't live in the US so I have to find an alternative... Will it work with basmati rice?
Thanks!

I've never heard of converted rice either. Is it Minute Rice? I've been wondering how you make rice in a crock pot - how much water, rice, etc...thanks for the recipe.

Converted rice is a "par-boiled" rice. I'm not sure it is interchangeable with other rices such as basmati.

What Barbszy said is true; I just also use regular long grain rice for the above cooking directions and it doesn't make any difference. This is a good compromise between nutritious brown rice and tender, fast cooking white rice. The only difference is converted rice is steamed before it's husked, a process that causes the grains to absorb many of the nutrients from the husk. When cooked, the grains are more nutritious, firmer, and less clingy than white rice grains. Uncle Ben's is a well-known brand. Substitutes: brown rice (more nutritious, takes longer to cook) OR white rice (less nutritious, stickier, takes less time to cook)

Interesting about the nutrients in Converted Rice. I didn't know that.
I have a LOT of rice here, but maybe next time I stock up I'll get some of that kind. I'll have to get a small package first and give it a test run with my family.
I have a rice cooker (one of the very few Single Use Appliances I own--and I seriously recommend them); would converted rice work the same as regular rice in the cooker? (2 to 1 ratio of water to rice)

I've never used a rice cooker so not sure how that works, but in a regular pan long grain, short grain and converted rice are all cooked the same way(2 to 1 ratio of water to rice). So I suppose you could just cook the converted the same way in your rice cooker that you do those.
