I personaly do not like Chow Chow, but I know many people love it. My maternal grandmother made it all the time. (She wasn't from the South so she didn't know she was wasting green tomatoes! lol)

Chow Chow

I medium size head cabbage, shredded
12 green bell peppers, diced
6 medium size onions
12 1/2 pounds green tomatoes, finely chopped
3 qts. vinegar
8 cups sugar
2 Tablespoons celery seeds
2 Tablespoon mustard seeds
1 Tablespoons whole cloves

Mix together the cabbage, peppers, and onions. Add this mixture to all the rest of the ingredients. Cook over low heat until vegetables are tender, about 20 minutes. Seal in hot sterilized jars, makes about 10-12 pints.

I remember every year my grandmother and aunt getting together and making chow chow. I never really liked it as a kid, but I'll have to look through some of their cookbooks, I bet I have their recipe too!
