sweetnell3
07-08-2006, 06:42 PM
We decide since we had to be back early not to see a show,we willtry to go Monday.Dd and I went out to eat at Sirlon Stockade, then did window shopping for school clothes. I did find her some slide on tennis shoes for 3:00 dollars.

DeBora4BobbyL
07-08-2006, 06:52 PM
Nell, you got an excellant deal. When my DH got his tennis shoes for that price, he bragged until they wore out a long time later that they only cost a dollar and fifty cents per foot! lol I have sensitive feet and am picky and my brand costs about $75 a pair. Sounds like ya'll had fun. I also like your ice cream! lol

sweetnell3

The shoes are the style that teenagers like, also they are pink with no shoe strings. She has decided to change her style this year as she will be in high school.Well we got a nice suprise today my son's cat had three babies, this is her third litter but none has lived so we hope these three do.

Catlover can't wait to see photos of the kittens.Ours is about 8 hours old. One is black&white, a tiger stripe who is the runt and one that is cailo like the mother only it has more black than gray.Dd will leave Thursday for youth conferance for church and will return Saturday I already know I'm going to miss her.

sweetnell3
07-09-2006, 10:27 PM
Catlover I can relate because I haven't been able to post pictures that we taken can't figure out how to resize them yet.We to will be finding homes for our baby kitties because we already have three cats. Will try to keep one maybe. Couldn't resist post the picture of the kitten because it just a little older than ours.

Nell, cute kitten, but love the chocolate.

When you guys save your pictures, save them for the pixel size that is allotted. Then, when you upload it, it shouldn't be a problem at all. Click onto the link and you will see what the acceptible sizes are for which type picture. I think you can also resize a picture as well, depending on what type software you have.

I get them on the computer fine and even change sizes to send them in my emails, but the program I use you just click on the size you want to send and it doesn't say anything about pixel size. Guess I'll have to play around with it one day and see what happens!

DeBora4BobbyL
07-10-2006, 05:18 PM
Nell, cute tags! I had to take my DHs car because he had to put mine in the shop because the place that put in my new break shoes stripped out one of the bolts and it had to be fixed. Plus, I won't have an television until tomorrow and no Internet until Wednesday except at school and a few other places. I'm even having problems in the research lab!

Anybody else want to join me in a pity party? ;) :D

DeBora4BobbyL
07-10-2006, 09:17 PM
Yes I am Nell, can I join you? Cat. join us when you are having one of those days. LOL I am up here at the university because I won't get Internet service until Wednesday. I won't have television until tomorrow. Since I have to wait for them to show up and then hook me up, that will throw off my schedule in the research lab. I have to be home by Thursday morning because I have a doctor's appointment. DH wants to go to TX to see his sister, bil, and niece. I want to get everything done by Wednesday night so I can.

DH said that my car is fixed and I cannot wait to get home to him. If you knew me, you'd know how precious my car is to me. lol He even has a name--"The Bobbymobile." He also has his own toys. lol Now I have to get copies of the work that was done to him and send it do the place that messed it up.

With no TV, no kids, and no Internet, I am going stir crazy. lol Tomorrow I will get the key to the lab so I can work after hours if I want to.

I'll see everyone next time I check in, which will be tomorrow.

07-11-2006, 12:56 AM

DeBora4BobbyL
07-11-2006, 08:57 AM
At least where I am at there is no DH and no kids, except when they bug me on the phone. The good thing is there is no cell phone reception in the research lab. But, everything else gives me trouble there. lol

sweetnell3
07-11-2006, 11:20 PM
Catlover I just started back from being off for a year, but took it fot 2 years before the break so I slow in getting back in the swing as I'm the oldest student. The main ages are 8 to18 but since I'm three belts up they let join back in. My dd has been taking for 5 years now,she very high rank so she can work some with me at home. we take it at pals.Dh even took it,he saids he will start back later. It has help in some rough spots by being to let off steam by punching something that I can"t hurt.lol I would to go to the woods though for the peace and quite so thanks for the thought.

cat lover
07-11-2006, 11:29 PM
I bet the karate is great excercise too, can't beat that! Getting to do something you enjoy and having that benefit. I do that with cutting and splitting firewood! We only heat with a wood stove, no AC nor heat other than the wood stove, so have to get in plenty for each season!

Love the doughnuts! tee-hee!

DeBora4BobbyL
07-11-2006, 11:32 PM
Nell, I admire you for doing so well at karate. That takes some discipline. You could always paste a picture to the punching bag! lol jk

sweetnell3
07-11-2006, 11:43 PM
Debora I don't have to have the picture on the bag,I'm good at just thinking the bag is that person pretty easy. Catlover I do it more for the exercise ,but the punches and kicks are a bonus!

DeBora4BobbyL
07-12-2006, 12:11 PM
Nell, I do the very same thing, except instead of karate, I have a semi-auto gun. Ppl think I am psychotic to think that way, but I am hurting no body, expecially when the person I am angry with doesn't know what I am doing. Sometime I am not shooting at a person, but a situation. It's just a way of getting aggression out.

cat lover
07-12-2006, 01:16 PM
Okay DeBora we have a little in common, I have a 22 semi automatic, and a 38 pistol. I actually got the 22 as protection for my chickens from coyotes, and etc. But so far protecting my chickens I do better with my 38. I try to chase them first and if it comes down to either them or my chcikens it ends up being them. And the olf farmers around here warned me never to go into the woods without a gun. They told me the packs of wild dogs are far more dangerous then the coyotes, and we have both around here. So I've practiced enough that I've become a very good shot; even though I still use the "chase away" first. LOL

sweetnell3
07-12-2006, 03:02 PM
We have guns also not sure what all we got, but I can shoot any of them I need to but prefer not to shoot a gun if I don't have to. That why I also like karate. Well been trying to think up meals that doesn't require a lot of cooking for the next few days. Anyway hope you ladies will have a great day and stay cool.

cat lover
07-12-2006, 03:41 PM
I've cooked roast before without them being thawed out all the way, I just added more cooking time, but you might not have the extra time for that, maybe. Boy, that's one LARGE cone! LOL

sweetnell3
07-12-2006, 03:58 PM
It might not be done in time for my dh as he won't eat after 7 but the rest of us aren't as picky about when we eat as long as we get to eat.lol

DeBora4BobbyL
07-12-2006, 07:10 PM
Cat, I have a semi-auto 40 caliber and a 38 revolver. I brought my semi-auto home from Cruces since my neighbors sold another neighbor that he would "get us" if we had him arrested. Since I will be calling the police if I see my vehicle tags on their car or any other illegal activities, I thought I should bring the better gun home, just in case he decides to break in. He on drugs and you can never tell what drug addicts will do.

Nell, I love all those tags you find. They all seem to feature all the neat summer foods that are so refreshing.

Good Morning ladies, hope you are having a good so far and staying cool. I'm at the trailer, when I'm seem to be able to relax more than I can at home maybe because less housework.lol
Got dd off with the young folks at church,I know she'll have a blast as they have actives to keep the busy. She was really excited abot the two dances they have one yesterday and one today plus the plan a lot of special meals. Member open their homes to our youth, the place the girls are staying has a pool. With just dh and I up here at the trailer I've no ideas for meals it looks rainey so grilling is out. Maybe I can talk ds into taking me out.lol

DeBora4BobbyL
07-14-2006, 11:34 AM
Nell, good luck having DH taking you out. I m cooking a spaghetti squash lasagna so that I can freeze it for later.

Wanna hear a good husband bashing story? When I got home to Carlsbad after a 3 1/2 drive from Las Cruces (plus a meeting at school or "class" if you will) I asked DH what was for dinner. It was 4pm and he was leaving to go to work. He told me that he didn't even think about me needing to eat!!! Naturally, I DID make him feel guilty. His excuse is that he works shift work. I reminded him that he wasn't even having to do any driving because I was doing it. Also, during the spring and fall, I am working 80 plus hours per week with school, homework, studying, community service, which I have to do for school, and work. I always manage to have him something to eat ready for him when he comes to visit me!

Anyway, I am no longer mad at him as making a man feel guilty seems to work. lol I am cooking two baked spaghetti squash lasagnas to freeze. Next time, I can just pull them out of the freezer and viola!

sweetnell3
07-14-2006, 11:41 AM
My bunch won't touch spaghetti squash,as for me I've only had it once and that was a long time ago. Guess I'll have to try it when all my group is gone!

DeBora4BobbyL
07-14-2006, 12:07 PM
Nell, I wouldn't try it with pasta on your mind because it won't taste good. Try it with veggy on your mind. It has a buttery flavor to me.

BTW, I will be leaving this afternoon to go to TX to visit with DHs family for the weekend. I will be back on Monday.

Sometimes it really takes a while to get on the right medication for you.About the best I can tell you is when he decides he wants to take the medicine and get help it is really out of your hands! I will keep you in my thoughts and hope it works out for him and you so you don't have as much to worry about.

sweetnell3
07-16-2006, 06:48 PM
It's days like this that I'm glad we have central air, plus we have three ceiling fans. Would like to put a ceiling fan in dd's room, hers is the only bedroom that doesn't have one. We have a famliy in our church that doesn't have anything but some small fans I don't know how they do it with heat with no releif in site to later in the week! You can nearly cook outside.

cat lover
07-16-2006, 09:31 PM
Ice looks good! We don't have any heat nor AC, we heat with a wood stove in the winter, and we've adjusted to the heat mostly. The big thing for me was I have lung problems so I'm thrilled that I can do without the AC here. But the air is so clean out here in the woods, it's the city pollution that gets me and cigarette smoke!

sweetnell3
07-16-2006, 11:22 PM
Catlover we have centralheat as our house is all electric but we have a woodstove so we burn wood during the winter to help cut cost of our electric bill . We also like wood heat the best it also comes in handy if the electric go off as we still have heat and can cook on it! Debora its been not the same without you here ,hope you had a good trip though.

sweetnell3
07-17-2006, 03:17 AM
Dh loves to bake potatoes wrap in foil in the ashes pan,we also cook beans and even meat on it. We have a kings woodstve thats around 34 years old,it was put in when the house was built. When we bought the house it was 11 years old. We like it but would like to move closer to town for dh's work and all of dd actives are uptown and with gas as high as it is having to make several trips to town is really costing.

cat lover
07-17-2006, 06:29 AM
Ours is only 3 years old, we bought it when we built our log home and it has a converter in it so it makes very little smoke outside;very efficient; the doctor says that is the only way my lungs would take using a wood stove and it does work for me.

I know about the gas thng; we've always tried to condense out trips just because our vehicles use so much gas, but out here something smaller wouldn't really work for us because we need something big because we condense trips so much and then the hauling we have to do around the property. So it takes around $100 to fill one tank, so now a days we are trying to condense the trips even more. Luckily it is just DH and me now so we are over all the "kids" running.

Have a good day! Any new tags?

sweetnell3
07-17-2006, 07:34 AM
Durin the winter I have to keep a pot of water on our woodstove because it dries out the air in our house causing me headaches,it doesn't brother the rest of my family. I got a few gotta look around and see if I can find some more. Hope you have a great day!

Popping toast! Cute!!

We keep an old cast iron ketle on ours for humidty in the winter and I keep a large enamel ware coffee pot with the inards out of it full of water for hot cocoa, hot tea, hot cider and etc. That way we don't have to heat water each time we want it. I even make a pot of coffee and in the winter time heat it in a small enamel pot on the wood stove when I want a cup of it.I'm determined the electric company is going to get as small a piece of me as I can manage! LOL

Ladies help! dd brought home about 13 bottles of the bottle maregine home from her youth coferance, my question is there a way to freeze it and it still be good to use later? Or would it be better to give it away? Thanks for any help on this matter.

cat lover
07-17-2006, 05:21 PM
I use it in recipes that calls for melted margarine, use it on air popped popcorn to make the salt stick and it's good on baked potatoes and corn on the cob! Also use it as the base for making garlic bread. I never pay any attention to dates on that type of stuff and never have had any problems with it. As long as it is kept refrigerated it shouldn't be a problem. The hardest part will be remembering you have it and to use it in place of regular margarine for awhile.

sweetnell3
07-17-2006, 05:45 PM
Thanks catlover I didn't think about using it on them foods. I don't buy that kind because dh will only eat real butter! lol

Hot everywhere! We get snow and three years ago depending on where around the house we measured we had 22-30 inches of the stuiff! We usually get enough to snow and ice to keep us in for 2-3 weeks at a time. The roads aren't that bad that long here, but our drive is all uphill or downhill depending on going in or out and 1/2 mile long; we can't drive it. We either slide or get stuck; and that's with a 4 x 4 expedition. So we just stay in and wait it out. But right now snow would be welcome! LOL

I know what you mean debora, last Friday during the day it got up to about 108 heat index down here and we were at our trailer even with the ac on high and two small fans it was warm inside! We even have the trailer park under some trees for the shade, it wasn't bad but it was far from to cold not unbearable though just didn't want to do much but wacth tv.

Just hot here like everywhere else I guess! At least we don't have the bad air quality here. We have ceiling fans going and all the roof windows closed during the day and a window fan in the front of the house and one in the back pulling air out. Only one front window open slightly and then down in the mudroom we have the screen door letting in air from the covered porch which runs the full 40 feet length of the house. So no sun gets there so at least the air isn't hot from the sun. It cools off here a lot as soon as the sun goes down and then I switch the window fans to bringing in the air and open all the roof windows. It's so funny because as hot as it is during the day at night we are under the covers. Just because we live in the middle of the woods, no concrete around and no other buildings around, all our outbuildings are away from the house and we have no neighbors. So it could be worse. And DH and I each have a fan that whereever we sit it goes with us! LOL Not doing much this week other than feeding and watering all the animals, because of the outside heat we are taking a week off! LOL

Land up here is on the rise, we have a new casino going in at French Lick,Indiana which has caused land prices to go wild! We paid under $1000.00an acre almost nine years ago and now it is going anywhere from $2000.00 to $5000.00 an acre! But if you buy a home and land it isn't real bad compared to the cities, at least not yet. This is a very ruralarea so nothing close by, the nearest town with 1 grocery, 1 pharmacy, 1 gas station, 1 funeral home and a dollar general store is a 20 mile round rip from us. The county has one middle. high school and two elementary schools. The whole county has a population of aropund 10,000 peopel. But if you like the slow land back life this is the place! And jobs aren't near by either so you'd have a little travel to get to things, but if you can handle that it would be worth looking into! And we could share the bounty of food! LOL Hope you are having a good day! We have to run to the grocery in a bit so see you all later!

Nell, what about using those cheap thermo lunch bags they sell at the store to store the cold things? You could avoid mayo, of course. You can pack her peanut butter and crackers and/or cheese and crackers for the extra protein snack that she might need. Cheese can stack in a non-hot area pretty well. You could get those little boxes of blue ice, freeze, and stick it inside those thermo lunch boxes. Then, slide in a sandwich, chipes, and snacks in it. I persoanally have a thermo pack that fits a lot and it isn't heavy. Here is the picture of the one I have (sorry, they haven't come out with the 43 ones yet). lol

215

You can get similar cheap ones at the store, I am sure. Mine holds enough for a couple of drinks and lunch for DH and I when we are at the race track. They limit how much we can bring in and we are there from 8am until 5pm-ish.

You can use ziplock baggies to put her some carrot or celery sticks. I think they sell the tiny containers so that you can put peanut butter or even some other type dip for the veggies. I carry salad in mine as well.

One more thing, here's the link to the Lunches forum (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1124&highlight=lunches) for children.

Good luck!

Hi sweetnell, tell yur DD I said hi too! I think DeBora pretty much covered some foods, peanut butter would give her the protein and celery goes right with it!(one of my favorite snacks!). You might be able to buy those little cracker and cheese snacks too, they hold up well, and you can get tuna and seafood snacks pkgs.- they have the tuna or seafood and usually a package of mayonnaise to mix in it and some relish and come with crackers. Or you could buy the individual pkgs of mayonnaise and relish at Sam's, use small cans of tuna and things like that and you would have the individual pkgs. probably the whole school year. You could even use them yourself if you take your lunch to work for sandwiches and other things. I used to buy the box of the mayonnaise and relish at the beginning of each school year and the kids and I both used them in our lunches. I loved cheese sandwiches with lots of lettuce on it and then I had my mayonnasie to put on it at lunch time and didn't have to worry about no refrigeration. I'll look around some more ideas and post them as soon as I find some more.

cat lover
07-28-2006, 04:42 PM
Sorry for the back to back, but here's a little more.

A favorite cold cereal makes a good snack
raisins or any favorite dried fruit ( you can buy these in bulk at some stores and use snack size baggies)
individual juice boxes or cans
peanut butter or almond butter (for a change of pace)
Crackers
small individual canned fruits (most small cans come in pop top cans)or applesauce
individual jello
Baked corn chips or crackers
Graham crackers
milk(in health food stores you can buy small individual boxes of milk that
doesn't require refrigeration)
bottled water ( you can even buy pkgs of drink mix now that you use with a bottle of water to flavor it)
Roasted peanuts
Granola cereal
Wheat crackers

Hope some of this helps;I'll look for some more ideas

07-28-2006, 04:42 PM
Thanks for all the help it really helps. I've beeb trying to cook more healthy but dh pefers fried food and all fatten food lol. he loves his ice cream ,popcorn, and sweets. My problam is salt I use to much.

cat lover
07-28-2006, 05:11 PM
We love popcorn also! We air pop it and spray it with a fat free spray margarine and sprinkle with NO SALT. That is the brand name of a sodium free product, it doesn't have the bitter taste some salt substitutions have; you can even use it on hard boiled egs if you at them and never know it isn't real salt.

The switch to less fattening foods usually goes easier if you slowly switch to it if your health will allow a slow change. And we do ice cram, but the no sugar added and fat free. I do all my own baking because that is the ony way DH can eat any of it. Lots of substitutions to make fat free or really low fat.

Have a good evening! Love the coke tag! I'm a coke person, but now it has to be diet coke!

Does your DD have access to a microwave? You could make her some whole wheat English muffin pizzas. You can also buy individual packs of string cheese. What about fruit salad or fruit and cottage cheese? I also thought about some of the following:

Chicken salad in a pita pocket
Chef Salad
I made myself a crockpot full of soup. Then, I measure a thermos full and pout several servings into small ziploc style baggies and freeze them. On school days all I have to do is nuke them and pour into the thermos. I pack myself the spoon in my back. Here are a few of my faves:

Hearty Black Bean Soup (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=378)
Cuban Black Bean Soup (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=460)
Santa Fe Stew (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=830)
Vegetarian Chili (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=900)

I thought I had posted my ham and bean soup, but I cannot find it. If I remember, I'll try to post it later.

Good afternoon sweetnell!

If your DD can use a couple of those frozen ice packs and maybe a small reusable cooler (lunch size), it would really open up to a variety. Here's a few more suggestions:

Chicken salad cracker sandwiches (chicken salad b/w two crackers)
cheese sticks
cut grapes and strawberries

Rolled sliced low-fat ham
cheese squares
round crackers
box of raisins

rolled ham
a combination of 2 or 3 of the following: carrot sticks, celery sticks, cauliflower, broccoli, sugar snap peas, or grape tomatoes
dressing for dip

Tuna salad stuffed cherry tomatoes
cream cheese stuffed celery sticks
fruit salad Jell-O

ham-n-cheese mini-sub (sandwich on a hot dog bun)
goldfish and pretzels
fruit roll-ups

wrapped sandwiches
shredded salad (shredded lettuce, carrots, radishes, purple cabbage and diced celery and cucumber, with just enough favorite salad dressing to stir & coat)
grapes

egg salad pita's
pretzel sticks in cheese cubes
sliced kiwi and strawberries

wrap a slice of turkey or ham around a cheese stick
yogurt
wheat crackers
craisins

Cold pasta salad with chicken chunks
cheese panini
honeydew chunks

Hope your day is going well!

Nell, sorry about your morning. I remember when I had battery problems with my car. I had recently put in an Interstate Battery and those last longer than the car! DH said it had to be the battery. Come to find out, it was the cable and not the battery.

I hope the rest of your day goes well.

Not sure what it is like your way, but we are under a excessive heat advisory. Temp is to be 98 today and the heat index 108! Not sure we will be doing much of anything today except jumping in and out of the shower to stay cool; maybe sitting under the trees if we have any kind of breeze! Would love one of those root beer floats for breakfast and lunch to cool off! LOL

Nell, Carlsbad has the tax-free days prior to the beginning of school too. I am going to ask my DH if they are going to have it this year as well. I don't know is Las Cruces has it or not. 2 sections of the Interstate are closed due to flooding and the tran mountain pass is closed as well due to flooding. Both those places are my way to Carlsbad. So, I couldn't go home this weekend if I wanted to.

Cute tags. I love the alien, but then again, Carlsbad is close to Roswell. lol

DeBora4BobbyL
08-03-2006, 05:00 PM
Thank you so very much Nell.

I got a lot done today. I "think" I got the bugs worked out of the program at school. That entire program has been like a problems child. I have a meeting tomorrow with Bryan to see what I need to do next. Maybe I can get started on it early and then go back home early next week. Class will be over on the 14th, but Bryan leaves on vacation on the 11th. So, I am sure we'll meet one more time before he leaves on vacation.

I got all my errands and chores done just in time. It looks like it will rain again. It's already rained once while I was in the lab. My DH, who is a weather man, told me that the flooding is due to something he calls "training." It has something to do with storms following one right after another and never getting the chance to go away or something. It's over my head. lol He said that the moonsoon season has started it should go away. So, maybe next week I can go home. DH is working anyway. He usually forgets for feed me when I come home to see him. Why are men like that? lol

BTW, I LOVE this tag! It's all about us girls and us chatting. Cool!

08-03-2006, 08:18 PM
Nell, those are some cool tags, I don't know where you find them all.

We aren't used to this flooding. I am such a baby when it comes to rain anyway. lol I really wasn't wanting to go home anyway as DH is working and sleeping so I wouldn't see much of him. So, the rain came at a good time. However, if it came when I had a doctor's appointment or something, I'd be in trouble. During the semester, I go to Ruidoso to see my specialist, which means I have to drive through Alamagordo. On some days they close the highway because they are shooting off missiles or something for part of the morning. If they ever close that highway, I will have to take the LONG way to Ruidoso. So, I have to call the day before, just in case. So far I have been lucky as there have been no road closes.

cat lover
08-03-2006, 08:27 PM
Both of our ways (if we get out our own drive) tend to flood, one faster than the other. That is why if we are to get lots of rain I stay home; I always have a fear of not being able to get back in and here sits all the animals to be fed and watered!
