We are having to cut back on going out to eat in order to save money. I came up with the idea of having a "restaurant" night on Fridays.

As a family, we will pick which restaurant that we would like to eat at and then create a meal from it at home.

For example, We love to go to Olive Garden. When we do, they usually get spaghetti and meatballs, salad and breadsticks. This is what we will be cooking for that night. I'll hunt up some appropriate music on the cable channels on tv and we can even eat by candle light

Cracker Barrel --we love their French Toast so we will have breakfast for dinner that night.

Arbys--we will make roast beef and cheddar sandwiches on onion buns and have curly fries or a baked potato

Denny's--we love their spicy buffalo chicken melts and fries. I am still working on a copy of this sandwich. My DD always gets mac n cheese, this will be easy too.

McDonald's --This is rare anymore but at home we will have cheeseburgers, nuggets and fries. I usually get a salad. Now, if I could come up with a playland here, this would work great! ;)

Texas Roadhouse--steaks ( on sale), twice mashed potatoes or rice and salad. Of course they will hav to have peanuts while they are waiting to eat. ;) And buns with their butter!

I'm sure we will come up with more places too.

If we splurge, Our local pizzeria and Subway will be the places that we will go! Dairy Queen too for dessert. :)

We can make homemade pizza and subs but they just wont be the same. lol!!

Tami, this is a terrific idea. Plus, you are building memories with your children.

I think that we are going to do Olive Garden because that's what they have picked but.....I am going to try to talk them into doing the breakfast meal from Cracker Barrel. (For some reason, my son thinks that I am so totally wrong for wanting to fix breakfast for dinner. lol!)

If the convincing works, I will make the CB French Toast, Turkey Bacon and CB Hashbrown casserole. My DD always eats cereal when we order French Toast so she should get a kick out of this too.

Did you ever find the missing ingredient in the CB French Toast?

Tami, that sounds like so much fun! CHoosing to "go" to a new restaurant each week. Please keep us posting on how it is doing. I could try something like that with my GKs when they visit.

Tami, that sounds great. It is something I like to do as dh doesn't care about eating out that much.

No. The recipe posted here is very good. My DH thinks that it tastes just like the real thing but I say there is still something missing---nothing that would stop me from eating it though. :)

Tami, how is restaurant night coming along? Once I am not longer dieting, I would like to do the same, just for myself or even when the GKs come visit.

Friday night has become one of two meals........either CB French Toast and hashbrown casserole or something from Olive Garden's menu.

I'm ready to break out of the mold. I have no idea what tomorrow will hold.

Long story short, I decided not to use that diet that I printed since my DH was so against it. I really got tired of listening to him gripe. Long, long story but nothing to do with me, just the contents of this diet.

I am going straight to the induction phase of Atkins.

I am glad that you are still having those fun restaurant nights.

Did your DH have to be on your diet if you started it? Men! What can I say? lol
