Yummy, I personally make mine depending on how quick I want it. I make Sugo Sauce (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217&highlight=sugo) for everything Italian. When I am in a hurry, I use tomato past, a little water, basil, oregano, garlic, salt, and pepper to throw together something quick.
However, I am sure the others have much better recipes to share.

Thanks for the reply debora. I bought some pantry supplies to use as staples so I can hopefully build up my pantry to the point I can jsut reah in and grab what I need. I'm sure I havew a long way to go though
I'm not sure if i could do the sugo sauce or not since im not a fan of anchovies or olives =P. If I leave those two out then I may be defeating the purpse of the recipe hehe. It worth trying though. Sometimes I like a recipe even though it has somethign in it i wouldnt otherwise like. So I may pick up the rest of the ngredients and try this.
Anyone else with some good sauce recipes that are diabetic friendly?

You can't taste the anchovies, but you can taste the olives. Maybe they'll announce this thread in the newsletter and you'll get a lot of responses. I am hoping it will be anyway.

ANchovies are the same thing that is in Woecestershire sauce. It only adds flavor. Olives however, are pretty salty and have a strong flavor so you could omit them. You could omit the anchovies too, but it won't taste as good. jmo

I have never used sugar in my sauces. I didn't others did, but I guess they do.
Yummy, do you or the diabetic in your family have to watch the carb intake as well as the sugar? I know the diet for the hyerglycemic is better than the hypoglycemic. I know that the carbs turn straight into sugar.

It's amazing when you look at the ingredients on labels in the store how most every sauce has sugar in it. I never realized it, till I started looking at labels.
Actually, my doctor really wasnt big on explaning the diet. She told me to cut out the regular soda pop obviously, said "i will get information for you to attend a diabetes education class," and then handed me a single paper that shows 1800 calories and how many exchanges of each thing I can have a day. then said "If you want to lose weight, follow the 1500 calorie a day plan." She did not say to keep it to 50 carbs a day or anything like that. She didnt even explain the paper just said read and use it as a guide. I've been keeping more toward the 1500 plan for the most part.
The diabetes education classes are not every month so I've not yet been able to find a set that fits into my schedule, since I work night shift. But I have them set up to start the first part of August. Basically, so far I have been going by that one sheet of paper she gave me, and what I have researched and found on the internet, so I mostly learning on my own for now. I lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks and brought my sugar down to the 140-150 range two hours after meals. It was 284 when I was diagnosed. So I guess so far I am doing fairly well.
Mostly I cut out the soda pop, reduced portion size, watch my sugar intake and reduced carb intake. (I was a huge soda pop drinker!) Of course I am also eating healthier foods now and rarely ever fry anything except ocasionally in small amounts of olive oil. And I try to be sure to eat 3 meals a day and a snack, and not go too long between meals.
So far I have not been given a strict limit on carbs or anything and it seems to be working for me. I guess I could go to these classes and something could change, though.
I have lots of diabetes in my family, my mother included. And at least two of them aren't very careful on thier diet and eat whatever they want. Kinda makes me sad to see it because they dont really try.
Anyway, let me shut up. I've rambled on and went way beyond the original question. Time to zip the lips :p

Ramble anytime you want Yummy.
I started the hypoglycemic diet back in 1982. At that time, it was extremely stricter than the diabetic diet. I stuck to it religiously for years. I had to cut back carbs and increase protein food and eat more often. At the time, I was on a 3,500 calorie per day diet and ate 6 small meals per day. When I started the diet the doctor thought I had an eating disorder because I weighed 75pounds! It took several tests to show him that I was losing weight fast and eating like a horse. Come to find out, sugar, or lack or it, can cause your organs to not function. I was eating, but no calories and anything was being absorbed. It's amazing what the sugar/insulin stuff can do to your organs!
If you do go to the classes, please let us know what you learn.

wow thats interesting how different the hypoglycemic diet is. I cant imagine only weighing 75 pounds. I'd be thrilled to get down to 130!!!!
I'll ley you alkl know what I learn when I go for these classes. I'm hoping to learn that I'm already doing several things right, for one thing
