I am planning a BD party for my DD--turning 3. She is a huge fan of Dora and Diego! The problem is that we are right in the middle of packing to move again so I dont want to spend the money or time doing anything elaborate BUT I would like for her to have a fun time for that day. There will only be her, her brother and a neighbor boy here for the party.
Any suggestions on the food (she does not like Tacos and everyone suggests that right off the bat) or cake?
Any easy, cheap decorating ideas?
Thanks!
Tami

How about a cake that looks like a taco? You could make a rectangular cake in a 13x9x2 pan, then cut two of the corners to round them. Frost it with white frosting that has been tinted yellow, then use red, green and orange decorator gel to look like lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes :)
Just an idea!

Tami, my DGD had a Dora party last year. We had the party at the park and cooked out. We also had a Dora pinata that was purchased at Walmart. However, that may be more expense than you want to spend. I like Amanda's taco cake idea. If you want to take the easy route, there are Dora cake decorations in the cake decorating section. Have you thought about drawing Dora on a poster board and play "pin the backpack" on Dora?
Good luck and have fun!

That's a cute idea too! What about playing a hide and seek game, in relation to Swiper? In other words, hide something and they all have to find what Swiper took :)

Sombrero Cookies are fun--I think Nancy posted a pic of them on Family Corner (What's For Dinner) last month. It looked like sugar cookies topped with a gumdrop and some sprinkles on the edge.
A Sombrero Cake would be easy to make. A round cake (single layer 9 inch) frosted white. Then one cake baked in a deep cereal bowl, maybe 5 inches diameter at the most, for the top of the hat (make sure you use an oven safe bowl!!!) Also frost it white. You can roll out Fruit Roll Ups around the edges to make colorful stripes.
A game they could play is "guess what's in the backpack?" You could put things in the backpack and make them reach in blindfolded to identify the items.
Purple & orange streamers & balloons are all you need. There's no need to go full bore on decorations. Just hit the right color combo and it will immediately be festive.

Ok, Here are the plans so far......
I'm going to the Dollar Store tomorrow to pick up some pink and orange streamers, yellow plates and napkins ( or some variance of these colors). I'm also going to look for mini magnifying glasses, notebooks and pens and other little things for their gift bags. We have ordered a "Dora Backpack" from Toys R Us. It is so cute! She should love it!! Im going to buy her an outfit in the colors that Dora wears, for her party.
To save time and money, Im going to make cupcakes and top them with something....I know that they make little sugar Dora faces. But I might try a party store for something else. I love the little sombrero cookies! Im thinking about making them with Rolos in the middle since she doesnt like gumdrops --but LOVES Rolos. I was thinking of naming the food -- Dora and Diego Dogs (hot dogs), Swiper Salsa and Chips, Boots Berry Punch, Isa the Iguana Icecream----is the a "C" character for cupcakes? Im going to print out the faces of these guys and laminate them.
Lastly, Im going to write a letter from Dora to her to tell her that baby jaguar has been swiped by Swiper and that she has to rescue him on her bike. I will make up a trail for her to follow and at the end, there will be a stuffed baby jaguar waiting for her. ( lets hope I can find one ;))
I'm trying to decide if I want to go over the top and have Dora call her. On Nick Jr's website, you can buy a phone call from Dora for $2.50. Think that is too much for a three year old?
All in all, I dont think the stuff above will be too much money.
What do you all think of this, honestly?

I'm not sure what your time restraints are but....
www.orientaltrading.com
has lots of different theme decorations and they are very inexpensive...I haven't looked for Dora deorations but it might be worth a try.

I love their website but I dont think that I will have time to order from this this time around.
We used to have some good party stores in our area of Pa. but here around us in NC, I cant seem to find one that has little trinkets and stuff like that. I know that there must be stores like that around here but I dont have the time to look right now. I'm heading to Dollar Tree tomorrow in hopes of finding some stuff.
I was telling my Mom that our stores have soooo much Dora stuff out right now but the $$$ adds up with it. She said that one of the candy supply ladies told her that Dora is so "out of style" this year...... I said "Oh Yeah? She should visit us down here." lol!!
From what I've been reading Dora will stay popular all summer and then cousin Diego stuff will be available this coming Christmas. :)
How you've been, Kim?

For some extra stuff, you can go to dltk-kids.com and print invitations, favor bags, etc. right from the website for most of the cartoon characters that kids like...I believe they have Dora stuff on it.

Sharlibird, welcome to MM!
BE sure to pop in to our thread so that we can all meet and welcome (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=252&goto=newpost) you! I look forward to getting to know you! I will be gone for a few days on vacation, but I will be back on Friday or Saturday.
My DGD LOVES Dora and she had a Dora pinata on her 2nd birthday. Her theme was Dora. The pinata was purchased at Walmart. You can fill it with anything that you want.

Thanks! I will check out this site too. NickJr's site has a lot of printables too.
Im backing down on the big party plans because of the timing of it. We are going to decorate with balloons and streamers and I am going to make cupcakes w/Dora faces on them. That will be it for now. She should still have a great time. I can still plan an adventure with her Backpack on her bike. :)
Im thinking of printing some coloring pages to keep her busy in the car when we move. If possible, I might break down and buy the Crayola Markers that only work on their paper. They have Dora sets too.

I always made a "pin the BLANK on the BLANK" game with my kids. Could you use some poster board and make a "Pin the backpack on Dora" game? You could blow up a picture of Dora and put a red X on her back. Make several little backpacks to stick on her. It would be cheap and fun!

I love this idea!! You could also play "pin the boots on Boots".
I will post pictures of her cupcakes and the BD girl when I get them. :)
