So many in my family have summer birthdays. I thought this would be a great place to share party ideas for birthdays. (Mine is coming up in August and I like to celebrate!)
What are your summer birthday party ideas?

My daughter's birthday is in July(she will be 23) and I suggested she have a black and white party. Since Walmart has all of that cute black and white stuff and she can wear black and white. maybe evev have chocolate cake w/ white icing or the opposite and decorate in black and white and maybe look around for black and white foods on the net w/ a splash of color, maybe red so I can have strawberrries lol

That is a cute idea! You could also do a checkerboad type cake.
Amayesing, if you get a chance, pop in to the Welcome thread (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4408#post4408) so that others will see that you are here and say hi! I don't blame you for the strawberries! LOL
Many of my family have summer birthdays too. My DD will be 24 next weekend, DGS 1, next weekend too, SIL, DGD (3), sister, and me! I love summer parties.

Have you ever had a "backwards" party? This works for kids as well as adults and can be lots of fun! When your company arrives you greet them with "good bye" instead of a "hello". You can carry this out as far as you would like. Then you eat the dessert first and just eat your whole meal backwards! If it is summer, wear winter clothes, if it's winter wear summer clothes. You can set the table backwards from the usual; use some "trick" items you can purcahse at the novelty store like maybe "trick glasses". You could elborate on this idea however you want and once you get started you'll be surprised at how much you can do!

I've seen youth groups do something similar. They go to one family's house for dessert, to another's for something else until they end up with a salad at the last house.
We generally have a couple of birthday's during the summer and try to do something that will keep us all cool! I think one year we did mexican food I had made some chicana, refried beans, rice, salsa ...ect. the usual stuff that goes with it. Another time we fired up the bbq and made tri tip and had made mac salad, potato salad, fruit salad and I think a green salad. Just simple things for us! Besides my siblings that have the summer b-days don't really care to hang out with their family since they are teenagers!

Those sound like neat ideas Rhi. 2 years ago I had my birthday party at the river. We were under shade trees. DH and my friends' DHs helped grill burgers. I brought a huge icechest of soft drinks. I made potato salad, macaroni salad, and brought chips. I had a NASCAR BL race car cake (surprise surprise) lol and we all had a blast! I was glad that my DHs co-worker brought his wife. She speaks very little English as she is from Mexico. She helped me with my Spanish when I first started taking it. She feels awkward in public. I was so happy that my other friends were very nice to her and made her feel welcome.
I think the outdoor fresh air, the play area, the shade, and of course, the food really help people to bond.
Yep, good food always makes people bond!! lol!
