Are there any recipes that you must "keep to yourself?" Or do you share recipes when asked?
Recently I tasted a delicious cake made by another mom at my kids' school. I had her email from a committee we were on together, and after the event I complimented her on the cake & asked if she would share the recipe.
She did send it but said that "I usually keep this one to myself."
I respect her wish, and I enjoy making the cake but I do not give out that recipe. But that's the only one. I figure that if someone liked something I made enough to ask how I made it, I'd consider it a big compliment.

I can't think of a single recipe I have that I wouldn't share. I consider it a compliment to be asked.:)

I LOVE to share recipes and recieve from others! I can't imagine not sharing myself, but I do know there are people out their that won't! I once had a lady that was the cook of a country restaurant that wouln't share her mashed potatoes recipe ( they were really good!), but before we left she finally did!

Well, a restaurant is one thing...if someone is making a living from their good food I'd hate to steal their secret.
I remember when I used to work in the Bingo kitchen for my kids' school. There was a lady who would come in, who made the most AMAZING homemade-from-scratch chocolate cake. People would see her bring it in and line up for a slice. She would never tell how to make it. She said she wouldn't even tell her kids! Another lady would say to her, "Don't take that secret to your grave, Helen!"

I know people who cater. They do not share their recipes because it is their living. Who knows, someday I may get them! LOL

This particular lady said it was her mom's recipe not the restuarants so that is why she shared with me. It is the only way I fix the mashed poataoes now!

This was one of my great, great aunt's cookie recipes; now mind you that this is her original recipe so it has shortening in it and all those things some of us can't eat these days, so you may have to substitute some of the ingredients for a special diet!
Soft Molasses Drops
3 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 cup evaporated milk
3/4 tsp vinegar
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 cup molasses
Sift flour; measure, add soda, salt and spices, and sift again. Combine evaporated milk and vinegar. Cream shortening gradually adding sugar and continue to beat till fluffy. Add well beaten egg and molasses and beat well. Add evaporated milk and vinegar alternately with the dry ingredients. Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 or 3" apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees about 10 minutes. Makes 6 to 7 dozen cookies
