I will be watching the longest race of the NASCAR Cup series within the hour. I will be going to a race in October. I LOVE to tailgate. Does anyone have their favorite ways of tailgating?

I have never been to a tailgating party but they look like so much fun!

We drove over the SC border last night and drove through a RV park. The RVs were decked to the nines with NASCAR stuff! Someone in the park was cooking BBQ chicken--it smelled sooooo good! The people looked to be having so much fun!!

I have always wanted to go to a Steelers tailgeting party but havent made it to one yet. Im keeping it on my "To Do" list though! ;)

Tailgating parties are so much fun. DH and I have been so boring in the past in that we only grill hamburgers. I want to do something different. I like the chicken idea.

I'll bet it is CROWDED there. Did you hear that DEI is charging $10 per car to tour their shop this weekend? Imagine that! That is why I am not a Junior fan. I would have to pay $10 in order to go to their gift shop to spend more money!

I'm not any type of sports fan at all, so guess I'll never get to a tailgating party unless I go as the cook! LOL I love the outdoors, but not sports.

Cat, you would be surprised at how many people go to sporting events just to cook and out-cook others and aren't as into sports as other people. lol

Maybe I could hitch a ride sometime then and play cook and get into some of the tailgating party that way! LOL

Tailgating usually takes place at a sports function. Everybody that wants to take part arrives early in the parking lot and set up picnic tables, grills and everything that would look like a regular picnic except it is in a parking lot of the sporting event they will go to. Everyone just gathers in to their groups and eat and party before the sports event. The tailgating part came from the old tailgate of station wagons that you used to pull down when you stopped along side the road to eat back when large families had station wagons. If I didn't explain it well here is a professional explanation!

tailgating can refer to the (often celebratory) practice of eating and socializing while perched on the open tailgate of a vehicle (though many people participate even if their vehicles don't have tailgates). This may include barbecueing and is usually related to sports fans preparing for Canadian football, ice hockey, or American football games. These events are also known as tailgate parties.

Cat, you explained it very, very well! I always thought tailgating came from the tailgates of pick-up trucks. lol

Yes, we usually arrive a few hours early to a race. We are usually too tired or I'm too mad (if Bobby didn't do well) to do any cooking after the race. It takes about 5 hours to get out of the parking lot at Texas. It takes about 2 at the other tracks I've been to.

Tailgating is very fun, especially if you go early in the morning before everyone is drunk. lol Everyone is cooking and sharing what they have with each other. Some ppl have tarps set up as well. There are grills, ice chests, flags indicating which team is favored, tables, and so on. It's a lot of fun and cheaper than buying the junk in the concession stands.

I've been to the tailgate but this the first time I will actually be doing any work. It looks like it can be fun and exciting.

Tami,
My friend was riding her motorcycle on Sunday, she pulled up to a stop light next to Troy Palamalu. She is so lucky.
I'm about 10 miles from the Steelers Training camp.

How much stuff do you take to your tailgating parties? Do you have a group of supplies just for tailgating? One of my nephews have some friends that into it big time! They have a whole small pull along trailer that they keep packed ready to go. They live in Louisville, KY and go to all the U of L games. I think they almost have as much fun doing the tailgating before the game as they do watching the game!

Next month is when DH and I will be going to the races. We won't be able to tailgate this time since we are flying and will be in a rental car. All our tailgating supplies are with our camping supplies and I KNOW we would forget something if I bought things just for the race. I believe tailgating is more fun for day or morning events. jmo This will be a night race and therefor will start at about 4 or 5pm and we won't leave until way after midnight. During day races, it is easier to sit and cook out while all the 250,000 fan leave or we'll be stuck in race traffic for hours. It is 5 hours in Texas and less other tracks.
