Does your family have any must have dishes they cook for New Year's Day? My great aunt always made sure she had these for the meal and everyone had to eat at least one; even if you didn't like black eyed peas! Please share your families must haves here for New Year's Day.

New Year's Day Black Eyed Peas

1 lb dried black eyed peas
6 slices of bacon, chopped
3 fat cloves garlic
2 stalks celery with leaves, chopped

In a large pot, cover the beans with about 8 cups of water and turn the heat to high and bring to a boil, let bubble for two minutes. Then turn off the heat and let the beans sit for an hour. Drain the beans and set them aside and use the same pot over medium heat to cook the bacon till it is done. Add the garlic and celery leaves and saute till soft. Return the beans to the pot and add enough water till just covered. Raise the heat and bring to a boil then lower to a simmer. Cook till the black eyed peas are tender about 25 minutes. 6 servings

I always make a pork roast with saurkraut and mashed potatoes with gravy. It is a German/PA Dutch New Years Tradition for good luck.
