My DGD will turn 5 in August. She is wanting some sort of princess party. She loves the Barbie and 7 Princesses, or something like that. Does anyone have any ideas for a party for a girl who LOVES princesses?

The "princess cake with a Barbie in the top" is pretty easy to do (though I would highly recommend using AirHeads instead of icing to make the bodice of the dress. I'm speaking from experience here. I have made that cake several times.)
Get regular cone-type party hats, some net fabric, foam flowers, and let the girls "make their own princess hat."
Tea parties are always fun and go great with a princess theme. Even if you don't serve real tea, serve whatever beverage in teacups and pour it from a teapot.
At my DD's tea party when she was about 7 we played games that involved toy jewelry, and had races to put on elbow-length gloves and rings over them.
"Finger sandwiches" cut in fancy shapes with cookie cutters are a lot of fun and easy to make.
I think you don't have to go all bananas with princess everything. If you have a few princess things and other things in the color scheme that go with the idea, it's much less "over-the-top." For example, don't buy the plates, napkins, cake plates AND cups. Just get the fancy napkins and use plates & cups in a coordinating color. It will still look great. Any leftover napkins can go in her lunchboxes during the school year.

Barb, I LOVE the decorate the party hats idea! I could get glue and sparkly stuff. All those other things you mentioned, I did last year. We could do the same again.
DeBora, I'll email you some ideas we used for Maddie's party this year.

Coll, I got your email. I just haven't had time to look at it between NASCAR Qualifying and GKs. lol But, I will look it at it in a bit.
My DGD found a cake online that she loves and I love it because it is easy. It is a plain cake with a tiara and a wand. That's it. I can deal with that. lol

Tiaras and wands--what else do you need?

We looked for cake styles while she was here. She corrected me and told me it was the 12 Dancing Princesses. lol What do I know? lol

You can have them make their own magic wands with drinking straws, pipe cleaners (to make a shaped thingy for the top) and of course plenty of glitter :)
Dowels would work too, but in my experience any "wooden stick" just gets too tempting! LOL!
Don't forget to play a game of "Princess Freeze Dance!" (Stick to music by girl groups, of course!)

I like that idea! I will have to see what I can do with my limited time.

Only if you had time you could get and decorate a large empty refrigerator or freezer box as a castle. Make it as a playhouse and decorate the outside as the castle design.
Or decorate your front door as if they were entering a castle door. Use lots of streamers all pastel colors that will cordinate with your table decorations.
Make construction paper crowns of all colors and let them glue on decorations of their choice. Such as glitter and plastic gems.
Have a game where they can earn beads to make their own necklaces for their party favors.
Have fun at her party.

A couple of ideas for the princess party
Decorate the "glass slipper"
Ask each child to bring a cheap new or an old pair of dress shoes to decorate as their own "glass slippers'. Let them spread glue on the shoes and sprinkle with silver and gold glitter or sequins. Let them dry before they wear them. An outside project of course! LOL
Goodie Bags
Include candy necklaces, bubbles, confetti, lip gloss, rings, princess stationary, princess pencils, and Princess fruit snacks.
Pin The Tiara On The Princess
Enlarge a picture of the birthday "princess" and cut out paper tiaras with each guest name on them. Let them play pin the tiara on the princess

Cat lover, that glass slipper idea is cute!
You could also print out some "glass slipper" coloring pages on card stock and cut them out ahead of time, then let the girls decorate the cardboard slippers. You could use them to play "pin the glass slipper on the princess" instead of the tiara ;)
