Cat, I am guessing that the places listed on this site are companies who have paid to be listed for advertising purposes. There are several restaurants in the Midland, TX area that offer free Wi-Fi that aren't even listed that I go to simply because they offer free Internet service.

It is actually just a free site to find the places; they make their financial support through advertising.

Just be careful if you use those free wi-fi sites. A lot of them are not super-secure! Here's a little bit of information that might be helpful (http://www.bettnet.com/blog/index.php/weblog/travel_tip_beware_of_airport_wi_fi_honeypots/).
Anyway, if you're using a place with free wi-fi, definitely make sure you have the automatic firewall turned ON in your computer. And don't buy anything over the internet when using those sites, if you don't want your private info "out there."

Barb, good point. Both RV parks that I have lived here in Midland/Odessa have free WiiFi Internet service. I told DH that when he ordered things off the Internet, that he was to be hooked up to our personal service so that others wouldn't be able to see his personal information.
With me being in graduate school, research and paper writing is ALL I do. I usually need a place, either RV park, restaurant, or motel that offers free Internet.
I notice that site doesn't list either of the RV parks. I wish it contained a more complete list.

ds2 loves to take his iPod touch out to see just who he can get wi fi off.
A lot of coffee shops here do as people bring their lap tops to lunch, McDonalds do. He loves to send IM to friends while having afternoon tea with mum .... it's Cameron and I'm in Gloria Jeans having a choc cake with my mum right now ....

DeBora, here is a new list I found for RV parks and campgrounds.
Not sure how up to date the first list list is now, as it was so while ago. I do know there are several places around now that have it. In Corydon, Indiana Culver's has it and most if not all the hotels; Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn Express,Baymont Inn are a few. A friend that still only has dial up goes to their parking lots and gets on to download things she needs that would take forever on her dial up. Even our little rural local library has high speed now, but the only thing available to us in our rural area is satellite, nothing else will come through all the trees. I've only had mine a a little over a month and even though it is the lowest end of what they offer it is much faster than my old dial up was. Just such a huge price jump over dial up though! Hopeful that will change by some means in the future.

Cat, the funny thing is that both RV parks in my area have wireless Internet and they aren't on the list. I bet these are places that paid to be on the list.

Could be or just that this list isn't updated very often. I know other types of things I go searching for and then research a certain place may or may not be as stated. So best to call ahead and check anything from these lists out.

This place that I have lived has had wireless Internet for at least 4 years because we used it when he was born and we stayed here at the end of June 4 years ago. That is why I think the places on that site pay to be listed.
