Is it pasta or is it a soup? No matter, it's yummy.
Saute 1 chopped onion and lots of chopped garlic in olive oil. Add 6-8 sliced chopped bacon and cook it down, not browning the pot too much. Add 1 can (14.? oz) diced tomatoes, two cans Great Northern or other white beans, drained, and 1 can of drained "greens" such as turnip or mustard. Next, add 1-2 tsp basil, 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning, and 1/8-1/4 tsp cayenne to pot. Finally add 1 quart of chicken broth and 1/4 lb. of good, sauce-grabbing pasta and cook until pasta is done. You may need to add more broth as the pasta cooks, depending on how generous your 1/4 lb is and on the type you choose. Some dried pastas seem to require more liquid. Serve with grated parm at the table along with salad and crusty bread and a nice red wine. :)
