Unless DH can get some brisket while he is in TX, we aren't doing anything special. I have to drive to Las Cruces tomorrow as school starts on Tuesday. However, if I can smoke a brisket before then, we'll have that and potato salad.

I love brisket but they are sometimes hard to find here in Georgia for some reason. But everytime we go home to Texas my B-I-L cooks one on the grill and they are so good.

Mouse, doesn't GA have primarily pork?

I'm working tomorrow, but I'm hoping to work JUST 8 hours instead of the 12 I've been working since Friday-if I go in at 4am, I'll be off at 1pm and we're planning on having sirloin(hopefully grilled) with baked potatoes(with all the fixings) and I need to make my dilled cucumbers before heading to bed-shortly. I'd like some corn on the cob too, but there's not much fresh in the store yet-will check before coming home though.

Know what you mean on that; the stores here have had it a few times, but I wouldn't buy it because it looked so small and "not done" LOL. This past week was the first week for some decent looking Corn! Can't wait for the farms to open for selling around here! :D

We are currently smoking a brisket for tomorrow. If I can get my DH to go to the store or I may go after the race to get the makings for pinto beans and potato salad.

Enjoy that brisket and eat some for me!

The problem is that I don't have refrigerater space or freezer space for the brisket in Cruces and DH will eat it all before I get back! LOL I don't have a smoker there either. So, I will pig out for as long as it holds out.

Debora I don't know if GA is primarily pork or not, I mean we see a lot more cows than pigs around here but I would have to say it is a chicken state cause there is a chicken farm for Pilgrims Pride and Goldkist on every corner nearly it seems. Some folks that have lived in GA all their life said that there just isn't a big demand for brisket in GA but that it is becoming more popular so some stores are starting to carry it. We have all the hamburger meat, steaks and roast you could want at the stores just not brisket all the time.

The reason I asked is because I've seen those BBQ contests on the Foodnetwork and the people from GA almost refuse to cook anything but pork. LOL The people from TX may cook a little pork, but they prefer the beef--especially brisket. LOL I am craving it so much that I am smoking one right now. I think I am homesick for TX. We usually go at least once a year to the TX race, but this past year I was transferred to a new school and wasn't able to go. Bummer!

I have two cookouts this weekend.

Today's menu at my brother's was burgers & dogs, chicken legs, potato salad, macaroni salad and baked beans. I brought watermelon and lemon lush.
I'm going to my best friend's house tomorrow. I'm not sure of the menu but she usually has burgers & dogs, churico, and steak. I'm bringing my lemon lush to hers also. Her husband loves it!

dvalliere, what is churico?

If she meant chorizo, it is a Mexican sausage. I think there are others besides the Mexican type.

Thanks, didn't think of that!

It's just a guess, but that's what I've seen grilling with those things.

Churico (pronounced shur-reese) is spicy Portuguese pork sausage. Sometimes it's made with beef & pork. I can even find it made with turkey in the store sometimes.
It's kind of like linguica. Good stuff.

Thanks for clearing that up. Is it anything like chorizo or andouille sausage?

I don't know, I've never had the other two. I have heard the name chorizo but that's it.

Chorizo is Mexican sausage. It is fairly greasy and spicy. I believe the andouille sausage is Cajun or something like that. I have never tried that one.
