An elderly lady is looking for a recipe for these. She said some restaurants in northeastern Pennsylvania still serve the real thing but won't give out the recipe. She said as a child she always had these for breakfast and would like the recipe for them. Anyone out there know of someone that might have what she calls "the real thing recipe"? I don't know any more than that on exactly what she is looking for, but maybe someone else grew up eating these and knows what she's looking for. She'd be really excited to have this recipe if you would share it.

Cat, are these small sized cakes, regular sized cakes, or what? Do they have icing on them?

They are a type of pancake made with buckwheat flour. Evidently there is a recipe out there made like they did back in the 1930's and the newer versions just aren't the same taste. So looking for the "old time" recipe.

I am not to sure what you mean by the old fashioned ones. I have had pancakes made from buckwheat. I think my Mom might still have the reciepe. I will find out and post on here if she does. I have never personally made them but they are good.

I don't think I've ever had buckwheat pancakes. What is buckwheat? I know I must sound stupid, but I've never understood. Thanks for the explanation.

An "old fashioned" recipe from the 1930's. Evidently they were made different than the ones today.

Buckwheat is a plant and the seed (or nut) is ground for buckwheat flour.Buckwheat flour is occasionally used for bread, but usually used for cakes, which when baked have a good taste, with a dark color. They are baked on gridirons and eaten with maple syrup as breakfast cakes.
