Is it ok to substitue regular milk with soy milk if I'm baking a regular cake? Soy milk has a different taste to it. Almost nutty like. Will this flavor come through when I bake a cake?

I have never tried it. I would like to know this also. I would think that you might taste somewhat of a difference but am really not sure.

I can't see how it would make much difference to the end product maybe only a taste thing. I dont' drink soy as I don't like the flavour of it but mixed in with other things in a cake maybe(?) it's probably undetectable. Maybe just give it a try and see if anyone notices.
I must say that I have not tried it, this is only my thoughts LOL

You can substitute soymilk for cow's milk in most recipes and you won't notice a taste difference in most baked items. If you use soymilk in sauces or other things that don't have many spices you might notice a slight taste difference. I've used chocolate flavored soymilk in baking a chocolate cake before and it gave it a more chocolate flavor!
The one thing about soy milk though is don't use it in the same amounts in making puddings because the pudding will not set, I've experimented with smaller amounts, but haven't had a satisfactory result yet!

Ah yes, I wondered about that since soy milk isn't actually "milk" at all... I've had it to drink (and even have some in the fridge now) but I have never tried to do any baking with it.

I like soy milk and actually prefer it over regular milk because its easier for my body to digest. I only drink it plain or with cereal. It changes the taste of some cereals for the better actually. I baked my cake using the vanilla Silk soy milk. The cake actually tasted alittle different but for the better. It had a sweeter richer taste to it. It wasn't bad.

Never thought about soy not being real milk I know you can get rice milk also and never thought about that not being real milk.

I know. I always thought milk was milk. But there is a difference when it comes to how its made.

I liked soy milk when I tasted it, but it also seemed very sweet to me even though it didn't have sugar in it. Maybe it's because I don't eat very many sugary things.

Soy milk does have a sugary taste, not really sure why. Even the "unsweetened" does so it must have something to do with the process.

That's one of the reasons I think I can handle drinking it. I don't buy it often, but I do like the sweetness. I used to buy Silk brand that was called "Very Very Vanilla" or some such name, like more vanilla than the "regular" but I can't find it anywhere now. Have any of you seen it? I can still buy the regular vanilla, but not the "very very" kind.

I think I am going to try a cake with the Vanilla Soy Milk. I would think that would give the cake more of a vanilla flaver actually.
