Is there a special "brand" of dark chocolates you like? My favorite is Russell Stover.

You will know how picky I am now. I am not real fond of Russell Stover. Once in awhile I find a dark chocolate that I like. It has to be fresh or I won't eat it. I will special order it or buy it in a specialty store. Thus far, I have found dark chocolate covered expresso beans that my DH gets me from TX. They are wonderful!

I've seen those, and even though I LOVE coffee and I LOVE chocolate, I just haven't been able to try those! Can you describe the flavor?!?!
DeBora4BobbyL
05-28-2006, 12:50 AM
If you get the milk chocolate flavored expresso beans, then it may taste similar to toffee. However, I think the dark chocolate ones have their own flavor! I LOVE them. I'm not supposed to have sugar, but I like to have an occaisonal handful during exams in early morning classes.
BTW, I heard on the news today that chocolate helps boost the immune system and has all sorts of other health benefits.

Ahh another chocolate lovers thread. I too heard that chocolate is good for you, especially dark chocolate. I love the Dove's brand of dark chocolate. As far as favorite candy bar goes, I love so many... reeses, york peppermint pattie, snickers [i just recently read what they make snickers of but I won't ruin it for the rest of you.], almond joy, malt balls, whatchamacallit's, twix, kitkat, dove bars, cadburys.... the list could go on forever.

Coll, I LOVE them too. When I used to be able to eat sugar, I used to eat them all the time!
Funny story. My then small children, DH, and I were camping. It was dark. I heard this "bug" fly into my hair. I went to grab it out of my hair and it would not come out. In fact, it felt like it was getting closer and closer to my scalp. I panicked and screamed as if I were being murdered. Everyone from the camp area came to rescue me. Guess what? It was a gummy bear!!! The lesson was that you should beware when you have Gummi Bears around children in the dark! :D

Have you tried the new Hershey's Special Dark Choc. bars? They are pretty good.
Betsy Ann's Choc. from Pa. still has the best dark choc. truffles that I have ever had. You can check out their website to see them. They are huge--and expensive--but worth every $$$ to me!!

For some reason, I cannot get dark chocolate here or at least I have not found it. I have looked at convenience stores and grocery stores! I have to go to a specialty store to get the fine dark chocolate.
As for the gummi bears, I felt so foolish when several people came to rescue me from the gummi bears! I was so hysterical that it was difficult to keep me still to remove the "bug" out of my hair! None of my children ever fessed up, but I am sure it was my DS!

Debora, your story is hilarious, but I have to tell you what I heard. My husband swears that this actually happened in Knoxville.
A woman was stopped at a red light and when the light turned, she wouldn't move. A girl in the car behind her jumped out and asked if she was all right. The woman said she had been shot in the head. She was holding the back of her head and the girl asked her to move her hand so she could see. Long story short, the woman refused to move her hand b/c she said her brains would fall out-she could "feel" them. Police and paramedics are called to the scene and a medic finally talked the woman into moving her hand so he could take a look. The woman's groceries were in the back seat and a can of biscuits had blown up and one struck her in the back of the head and she was sitting there holding that biscuit to her head insisting that she had been shot. I've often wondered how many police and medical personnel were called out to take care of that biscuit.

What snickers are made of... I read this in this book called Stiff by Mary Roach. I will have to go back and find it and post her exact words but for now, anything made of nugget has crushed bone in it and something else. I can't remember the something else so I am looking in the book. When I find it I will post her exact words. This is a great book btw, but not for those faint of heart because it is about cadavers. [dead ppl who donate their body and what happens to their bodies] and pretty much how a body decomposes. It was on the best sellers list so I guess I am not the only warped person to read about it.

Here is what it says, According to the Kind & Knox Web site, other products made with cow-bone and pig-skin bases gelatin include, nougat-type candy bar filling, liquoorice, marshmallows, gummi bears, caramels, sports drinks, butter, ice cream, vitamin gel caps, suppositories and that distasteful whitish peel on the outside of salamis.
That's what she says is in all that stuff above. Haven't gone to the website to check it out but I probably will.
For now I'm gonna go eat another snickers and like it.

LOL Felicia, I was afraid that you were going to say human stuff. I knew that the sausage stuff was made with intestines of animals and I still eat those. This isn't so bad! After today, no candy until October except for a few dark covered expresso beans during early morning classes. I'm going on a diet.

DeBora, it doesn't bother me either. I mean we eat animals anyway.. so what's a little chopped bone and pig skin?? [well okay it doesn't sound too appetising but you know what I mean] There is a part in this book about how eating ppl will make you healthier and supposidly one guy got better eyesight from eating human flesh. There is other stuff too about how the egyptians [i think] would have a person who is dying eat just honey. Then when he dies they injected honey in him, and put him encased in a coffin of honey and mark the date. A hundred years later they open it and eat it. It's some kind of healing thing.. they had some disgusting things the chinese ate for healing purposes like poop. YUCK. Sorry but if it has no nutritonal value and your body excretes it out, why oh why would you want to put it back in and think it'd heal you?
Fish3711
sorry if that one totally grossed you ladies out!!

I personally don't think humans eating humans is healthy. I think that it has been proven that cows eating cows causes mad cow disease. The ONLY time I understood ppl eating humans was when those sports team (forgot which sport) were stuck in a blizzard on the side of a mountain and people were dead. Eating the dead was the only way to survive.
I think people would be surprised to know what all was in their food. Sometimes it's better not knowing. LOL

The chopped up cow bones don't bother me. Either does the pig skin too much. It does have nutritional value. But eating humans and human excriment does bother me and I can't see how or why they thought that was healing. It had a lot of stuff in there about what they used to do for healing purposes. You see cadavers are used to learn about medical science so that is why she was talking about it. It is a good book though, just at times, hard to swallow, you think omg how disgusting.

I find my Midnight Milky Ways at Food Lion Grocery Store here in NC, we are finally carrying some at Walmart, but they're the bite size and I really want full size bars. I keep asking them to get in the dark chocolate ones again-but they have no answer to that. I have tried the Hershey's Dark Chocolate Bar-great!
I like Reese's PB Cup too-but now with caramel-that is the best!
