Well, I'm not doing any "diet plan", been there done that. I'm finding I'm doing better by cooking normal (if you call the way we eat normal), and just limiting portions. I use the treadmill, but find out cutting down and chopping and splitting wood seems to be the best excercise for me! I lose quicker doing that than anything! I still woulkd like to lose a lot more. Don't want to go into the NUMBERS! But if we can encourage each other here, it will help I'm sure! So come on girls or guys let's help each other!

You are not the only one who needs to lose. I found a dietician site (http://ibw.dietician.com/ibw.exe) today while looking for some info, and it had a quiz I could take. I was a little "in denial" of the fact that I have 20 pounds I need to drop--but when I printed out that quiz and it said YOU ARE OVERWEIGHT
Yes, I am. And I need to fix that.
I am going to try very hard to lose that weight. I didn't get it overnight so I don't expect to drop it overnight either. In fact I would be super happy if I could lose 1/2 lb a week.
I think what kills me is mindless snacking. I should force myself to eat sitting at the table. Not at the computer, not standing at the stove.

I try to eat lots of fresh vegetables, and we grow a large garden in the summer so that will help. Because of hubby's diet there is so much we don't eat I would think it would be easier for me, but no! There are times I just have to have something I really shouldn't be eating. I've found that to just avoid certain foods that is not the way for me to go. As long as I limit myself on certain things that works better for me. We just have to encourage each other!;)
I should lose some weight too. My hubby does the cooking so it's hard to control the fat. I should just cut down the quantity. And cut out the sweets.

I have found that proper food combining helps me the most in losing weight.

I need to lose weight here too! I am all for just cutting back a little and increasing activity catlover! I think the best exercise for me at the moment is taming my yard--mowing the lawn (with a push mower) and digging up dead shrubs and pulling out vines and cleaning out from behind our sheds (where it became a "dump" long before we bought the house!) makes me work up quite a sweat! I am doing weight watchers and find that it works for me, but I say ANY change you make is improvement and should be celebrated!

We try to steam most of veggies that we grow and we don't fry much of anyhting. If I do I use about 2 tbsp of oil in the bottom of my turbo cooker and that works.
Yes the yard work helps a lot! We have to cut the grass with a tractor and I use a DR powermower to cut where it needs to be cut and the tractor won't fit. So that does help. We have about 4 large trees cut up from winter that still have to be split so looks like I'll be doing that this summer. Usually have that mostly done, but we lost so many trees this winter from storms. Still 6 more down in the woods that aren't even cut up.
I get at least two walks a day in; by the time all the chickens are taken care of and all the dogs and cats I walk about a half a mile doing that. They aren't all right by the house! LOL Then I have to walk over to the cabin in the woods at least once a week to check out that everything is okay in the campsite. Nothing worse than someone showing up to camp and an animal has made his presence known! I have a treadmill, but have a hard time using it in the summer, winter isn't too bad. Much easier than being in the cold! LOL

Most people are surprised that when they do portion control on how much it helps. I don't "cut out" things , but just limit them. And I also try to stop and think when I go to grab something to eat. Am I really hungry and would a piece of fruit work? I also find that if I have fruit cold it helps me eat more of it, so every time I take a piece out I replace it with some type of fruit.

Well, how's everybody doing? The one good thing about all this heat we're having is I'm sweating more and drinking lots more water! And my appetite isn't good because its too darn hot to eat! Whatever works! LOL

I've been cutting down my portions, as I find it hard to give up all the good stuff. If it's a donut I ask the kids for a bite, if it's chips I ask hubby for 2 and nibble. Chocolate is the hardest to tone down, I limit my intake to 3 squares.
I also find it harder on the weekends when everyone is here to watch my food intake buuut, if I'm good during the week why not?

One of the biggest helps to me at mealtime has been to switch from a "dinner"size plate to a smaller "salad" plate for my entire meal. After a while what you can fit on that seems just the right amount!

I have been reading a very interesting book called "Mindless Eating" that talks a lot about portions. It's a fascinating book.
What I wish is that I could convince DH about what a "portion" really contains. He thinks that a (huge) bagel is one serving of bread--more like 3!!!!

Portion control is the hardest thing I have a problem with my DH also. When I show him a "portion"; he usually says well I might as not even try it if that is all I can have! LOL So you see another reason for having to have such a "no fat" diet for him! LOL He'd never stay within his intake limits of regular food with the way he eats! LOL

Sounds like my Uncle we just visited, he says, look 99% fat free but you look up the total calories and I nearly had a heart attack just looking at the label! It was a 1/4 of MY whole daily allotted intake in one drink.
He's single and I think he would benifit from another person cooking the same food differently.
He would make 3 snadwiches (6slices) and say that's ok it's grain bread, but the butter etc ........

So many people just don't understand those numbers listed on the labels! LOL I know someone that did the reading the same way you describe Bilby; till I explained it to them and showed them what they were really eating! Lots of people don't pay attentiopn the the portion of those numbers and just assume whatever amount they eat of it they are doing okay!

I must admit Cat that until 6months ago I was one of those people who did not understand, I'm so glad I made it my mission to at least learn the basics. I will say I'm not in the least bit perfect on reading them all but better.
I very rarely have a pre made drink (iced tea, juice etc) and if I do I share it with some one, otherwise it's water water water LOL

I've turned more and more towards water, too. Reading some of these labels on other drinks was certainly an eye opener. Some of them are still rather reasonable but I haven't found too many! :(

I don't guess you can go wrong with water, unless you overdo it. :( I have very sensitive taste buds, and if the water's not good, I can taste it. So, I usually have sweet tea, but not TOO much.

This is what I do, too... I watch portions instead of any fad "diet" that comes along. It works great and I don't end up resenting it because I won't allow myself to have something.

We were out to lunch the other day and a friend said she'd get a bottle of lemon water, we were sitting there reading the label, not just lemon and water but a whole host of other things in there to!
Funny at home portion control is good easy, but when you go out to eat you want more on your plate, more or good value for your $ LOL

I have noticed this, too. At home, I wouldn't dream of eating the amount of food that is served at many restaurants. Even breakfast is horrid most of the time... two eggs, two toast, two pieces of meat. When I eat ONE of each of those things at home, it's a huge breakfast to me.

If I have breakfast out usually when we are away, I always say if there is 2 eggs please give me only one and extra tomato as 2 eggs would do me in I'm afraid LOL, Once when ds2 was about 5 we actually asked for an extra plate and we split one breakfast and it did us both nicely as it had 2 of everything, that was better on the wallet also.
I'm out tomorrow with that same friend so we will see what ends up on our plates??

I have often wanted to do this and share with my daughter. Haven't actually done it yet, but it would work great with breakfast. I think we'll soon be eating out for breakfast so maybe we can try it and see how it goes. Most of those breakfasts easily serve two people. :)
