Your cream cheese braids sound really good! I have never eaten acini de pepe in anything but wedding soup.

I'm known for making Chicken Spaghetti. This is NO low fat meal though! LOL!
Cut 1-2 chicken breasts in bite size pieces and saute in a bit of oil till it is no longer pink. Then add a handful of finely chopped onion and a handful of thinly sliced celery, maybe just a bit more oil and saute till onions & celery are translucent. Add just a bit of water, stir, lower the heat & put a lid on for approx. 15 minutes.
At that time, cut up 8 oz of Velveeta cheese,
Open 1 can each Cream of Mushroom, Cream of Celery and Cream of Chicken. Combine with the Velveeta and soups with the chicken mixture. Cook and stir to melt the Velveeta.
Cook a box of spaghetti noodles. Combine with the above chicken, soup & Velveeta mixture. This may need to be thinned a bit with water so the spaghetti fork can get through it.
My grandmother used to add black olives & water chestnuts. The water chestnuts added a very nice crunch.

VTMama, your recipe looks really good. I'm going to print it and keep it for when I have someone come by that could have some with me! Hubby couldn't get near it because like you said "it isn't low fat" LOL  I like to use soups in some of my recipes, but I don't think I have any that uses that many in one dish; can't wait to give it a try! Thanks for posting it!

I'm known for my Mexican Cornbread
2 boxes of Jiffy Cornbread Mix
1 can of cream style corn
1 can of whole kernal corn, drained
1/2 cup of either oil or bacon grease
2 lbs of hamburger meat
1 onion
2 or 3 jalepones (can use green chilies if the jalepones are to hot)
16 oz of Mozerella cheese
16 oz of Cheddar Cheese
Mix up the Jiffy Mix according to directions for cornbread, then add the cream style corn and whole kernal corn to the mix. Pour in the grease and stir until mixed.
Cook the hamburger meat. Chop the onion and chop the jalepones.
Get a 9X13 pan and pour some of the cornbread mix in the bottom to cover. Then put the 16 oz of cheddar cheese on top of the cornbread mix, then the hamburger meat, onion and jalepones. Put the 16 oz of mozerella cheese on next and finish with the rest of the Jiffy cornbread mix to cover the top. Put in the oven for 60-70 minutes on 350. Let sit for about 5 or 10 minutes when you take it out before you cut it.

Looks good,I'm going to email that recipe to one of my sons, I think he would really enjoy it!
I guess you could say I'm known for making potatoe or macaroni salad. I make it the same way my mom did.
I went to my dads for a cookout wiht him and my sister and her family. She requested potatoe salad. My dad siad this is so good, tastes like what mom used to make. I was so happy when he said that, but also very sad because it was the first cookout since mom passed away.

Pam, what are pudding cakes?

Hi DeBora-pudding cakes are made with any flavor pudding, cool whip, graham crackers(any flavor) and frosting(any flavor).
Mix 1 large or two small pkg. pudding with one large tub of cool whip(any whipped topping will do). Layer graham crackers and pudding mix in 9X13 pan.(you can start crackers first or pudding first-I usually do crackers first) You usually get three layers of crackers and two of pudding. The top layer of crackers get frosted(I usually frost as I put the crackers on top of the pudding and then spread when the top is covered.
This is best done the day before so the pudding can soften the crackers and it's Cake!
I used to have to take two to church dinners in FL and never brought any home.

Wow! It sounds rich. No wonder you never brought it back home. I never would have thought of making a "cake" with pudding.
Whenever we have a potluck for bowling, they request I bring my torpedo. My best friend loves it, too. Whenever I make it I have to save some for her.

Two of my SIL have their signature dishes down pat and no one else dares to even think of bringing these dishes! LOL One brings her layered salad and the other potato salad. They both are always so good and taste so much better than making it yourself! LOL

Ok, I want to know what your torpedo is too.
Actually, DeBora I never really thought of it as really rich. It's very light and you can leave off the frosting if you want to. One of the girls at work suggested a light dusting of powdered sugar instead-but I haven't tried that yet.
Torpedo is like sloppy joe except not so much tomato sauce.
I'll post the recipie in the recipie swap too but here it is:
TORPEDO (DYNAMITE)
3 lbs. lean ground beef
2 onions, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
2 8oz. cans tomato sauce
1 8oz. can water
2 pkgs. sloppy joe mix
salt to taste
Mix all ingredients together in a crockpot. Cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 4 hours (cook times will vary depending on crock pot). Stir only once half way through cooking time and a second time near the end.
I've been lazy before when I made it and used frozen chopped onions & peppers but it comes out better with fresh veggies.

It sounds just like my "barbecue" that we make! I just put in chili powder instead of the sloppy joe mix. Now, calling it barbecue is another whole story! When I first married and said we were having BBQ for supper and presented this dish; DH looked at it and asked where is the BBQ? I told him that was it so he says well BBQ is meat that has BBQ sauce on it! We still "discuss" that issue!LOL

I used to call anything cooked on the grill BBQing but after being corrected a number of times after moving to GA I now call it cooking out unless I am actually using BBQ sauce.

Have you ever seen the shows on Foodnetwork with the BBQ challenges? There is such an argument as to whether or not to add sauce. LOL I call it BBQing, grilling, or cooking out. From the shows, it seems that the Georgians take their grilling as seriously as the Texans. LOL

We do watch some of them but my biggest problem is I always want to be one of the judges tasting it all, all those cooking shows make me so hungry. I told Jerry that we need to find a book somewhere or a magazine that tells about where the cookout are going to be and then start attending them, not as cooks but as tasters.

On these shows I've heard them talk about how the grillers have make enough for the judges as well as for the people that come to see the event. I'll try to be on the lookout for what they are called. If I can find what they are called, they you can find the schedule. If you do ever go, you know I will want details! LOL

If we go you will get details. They have a chili cook off at Stone Mountain Park in GA that is a lot of fun and for like $20.00 you can taste the chili. Some of them are so hot they set your mouth on fire, some of them are real good and some of them you kinda wonder why they even came to cook cause it is just so bland and non tasting. They all give you a taste and their number is on the little cups and then you are suppose to mark on your paper which one you liked the best. I think we got to pick 4 or 5 but there are usually about 100 folks out there cooking. We haven't been in several years but may go back this year if we haven't missed it already.

They have those chili cook offs in Texas too. Here in NM they have menudo festivals. I would like to go to one of those contests, but have never been able to go.
I don't know if they have those BBQ contests in the spring or summer, but now I will be looking out for them. LOL

What is a menudo festival?
It is the same thing as a chili cook-off except they cook menudo instead of chili. There are judges who judge who has the best menudo. It is a Mexican dish. I like it, but many people do not. It mostly has tripe and homany in it. It smells really nasty while it is in the beginning cooking stages. So, I buy it on weekends when I am stressed.

Well I guess cabbage smells really bad when it is cooking but it taste really good so I won't judge the menudo unless I try some one day.
