Hi, I'm Viv and as you can see from my location tag, I live in Vermont, I'm a Texas transplant.
My husband and I have 3 kids. One 20(boy), One 9(boy) & one 7(girl).
I love to cook and have had to be creative for the last 2.5 years as we bought a house and it has no stove! yep. We have a cook top but no oven. It's surprising what you can do with an electric skillet, a TurboCooker, & a grill! LOL!

One thing I really miss, though, is garlic bread!

I've already posted on a couple of threads as I didn't see this one before. This site is great! It will be nice to meet ya'll.

Welcome to MomsMenu VTMama and sweetnell3! You'll really like it around here. We love to share recipes and talk food, food, and more food! Anything to do with food.

I've been married to my high school sweetheart now for 33 years this August. We have two sons; one 30 and one 27. Now we have 3 indoor cats,2 outdoor cats and more expected VERY soon, 4 outside dogs, and about 100 chickens! We raise some for fresh eggs, and others for natual bug control. Some are free range and others aren't. We live in the middle of The Hoosier Natural Forest so we have many, many wild animals and we feed and supply water for lots of those also and just enjoy watching them.

I like to sew of various kinds, needlework of various kinds, cook, collect recipes, gardening, animal care of all kinds, woodworking and just generally any type of crafts or building things we can use.

We have 30 acres that we live on in a log home and have a campsite with a cabin and several primative campsites that are open for family and friends to come and get away from the city!

L:) ooking forward to sharing all types of goodies with you all!

site....I hope to be able to gain some great recipes and ideas here.
I have been widowed for several years...been retired a little longer ... and live in Ohio. Have a son living with me right now...til he gets through his divorce. Also live very close to my other 3 children. Have 4 children...two daughters and twin sons...five grandchildren..ranging in age from 28 to 4...not all with the same parents of course.

Am a diabetic and have had a heart attack so am always looking for low sugar, low sodium and low saturated fat recipes...for myself...and other not so healthy recipes for my children and friends who don't need or choose to be healthy eaters. I exercise regularly....walking and riding my exercise bike ... walking is my favorite though...love to listen to fast music ... my favorites are Metallica, Madonna, Beyonce, Mary J Blige along with some older stars like Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, George Harrison, etc....even like some Ozzy Osbourne...

Howdy! I came from Houston. Lived there for the 1st 25 years of my life. Now, I've been in Vermont for about 15. I don't miss the traffic, but I do miss people. When you say you have one angel son, does that mean he isn't here anymore? If so, I'm sorry. Losing a child is very hard and (in my opinion) the only comfort is to know you'll see them again.

Is your son (23) still at home? I'll bet with an older son, your daughter really wants to grow up too.

Thanks again for the welcome!

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the forums and thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Sammi and I'll be 40 next week. I am married, no kids. I am a nurse for persons effected by Alzheimers.

Nutrition was never my strong point in nursing school. I recently found out I have diabetes and am trying to learn as much as I can about it. It has been a big lifestyle change, but so far I feel like I am doing fairly well with it. Hubby has been very supportive and has given up soda and things along with me, and is helping with the exercise regime.

Hobbies are music, movies, rubber stamping and I also play an online game with a long time friend.

I am looking forward to getting to know some of you and sharing recipes and things.

I live in Australia with dh (not my childhood sweetheart!!) but married almost 20yrs, my dd who is 14 and ds, 11. Dh is 7 years older than me, so he was driving when I was in Grade 6 ~ definitely NOT my childhood sweetheart!

Hi all, my name is Becci. I've been married to my wonderful DH Scott for 12 years (will be 13 this July 23). We have 2 enchanting kiddos DS 7 (who keeps me busy with Cub Scouts and baseball this year), DD 3 (chatterbox who's favorite words right now seems to be "Why" or "How come"). DH is a long haul truck driver (been doing this since just before DD was born, so about 4years now).

We currently live with my parents in western Washington (we've been living with them since DH went on the road). I cook dinner for the entire family Monday through Thursday, and Friday night just for the kids and myself (and DH if he's on hometime). Oma (who works full time) cooks on saturdays and on sundays we do what my mom always called catch night (i.e. clean out the leftovers of fix it yourself night). Opa (who also works full time,) has diabetes and has had heart surgery, so I cook mostly low fat, low sugar meals.

I love to read cooking magazines and use the web quite a bit to find new recipes to try. I also am very involved in our church's Coffee Break bible study (which is over until the fall) and a local MOPS group (also done for summer). I like to spend my free time on the computer looking for new recipes, parenting tips (FamilyCorner and MainStreetMoms are excelent sites) and may other things.

Rbeccers, welcome to MM! I hope you have some recipes to share. We used to have a Monday night Bible study in our home when we lived in TX. (I am a native Texan) We made coffee and snacks and had a blast. I lived in a small town and we had the Church of Christ minister as well as the Methodist minister along with members from various chuches studying together.

Here are a few places that I think you might enjoy:

DH is a long haul truck driver

Hi Becci! I am Jennycherie - my husband is also a truck driver. Not really long haul, but regional. He is usually home once/week and we occasionally get "surprised" with a visit when he has a few hours between loads. He is dispatched out of a Wal-Mart distribution center that is about 25 minutes away so we can sometimes see him if he has to wait on a load or runs out of hours near home. Nice to meet you! ( we have four kids ages 3-9)

They are small cakes already sliced in a box. I am not going to eat them all and was trying to think of a way to reuse them. Thought about bread pudding or something. Any ideas?

Thanks,

DeBora4BobbyL

First, welcome to MM! I look forward to getting to know you.

My first thought is to make bread pudding. However, this would be an excellant topic to start for others to answer here (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6). Just start a new thread and ask. If you do, I'll pass the information along and maybe it'll be in the newsletter. We look forward to sharing recipes with you as well.

Here are a few other threads that I think you might enjoy:

Recipe Swaps (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=15)

Coffee Chat (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=2)
5 Ingredients or Less (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=79)

Let me know if there is anything that you need.

My name is Gretchen, I am a work at home mom of 2 and also a full time student! When I first started to stay home, cooking wasn't really a bother now there never seems to be enough time to make anything! Nor do I have enough choices! Afterall, who really wants to eat chicken 7 days a week?!? Hopefully that will change!

Yes now the proud mama of nine cats! Only three are indoor, the others are all strays that adopted us, and now one of them has four kittens so... now nine kitties! So we have kennels everywhere! They come home after a little run in the woods to go "home". We have to lock them up at night because of the coyotes! We have four dogs as well, all outside dogs! And two of them are just like the cats; they adopted us! Sure makes life fun!:D

Hi, I'm Peggy from Nova Scotia, Canada. A 64 year-old widow with two dgos and a cat. I taught for 35 years starting out in Special Ed for 20 years and ending up teaching Grade 3. After a couple of years retired, I went back to work at a call center and rather enjoyed the different dynamics. Then two years ago I was offered a job teaching up-grading to adults - by far the best job I've ever had. I'm originally from the States via New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Washington state. Married a Canadian - hence my move to Canada. I do love it here and also enjoy my summer trips to Moody Beach, Maine. Am a great animal lover - never had children - so they have taken the place. My two dogs, Jake and Ginger, are a cross between Golden Retrievers and Nova Scotia Duck Tollers. They are brother and sister. I also have, Pepper, my short-haired Tabby. Beside my love of animals, I also love to cook, read, watch TV, and swim. Have a brother in Denver, Colorado and my mother, age 95, is here in a nursing home.

Hi Fran and mom2amelia! Welcome to MomsMenu! Have fun sharing your favorite tips, tricks and recipes.

Fran, I used to work with handicapped adults as well, in a food-service training program in northeastern PA. It was a challenging job but I really loved it. And I learned a LOT.

Mom2amelia, sometime you might also want to take a look at our sister site, Family Corner (http://www.familycorner.com), for all those "non-recipe-related" discussions.

I am Erin. I am 36 yrs old mom, married to Ken since 1996, and have 4 children: Elizabeth is 19, Eric is 17, Elisha is 9, and Eli is 10 months old. I am a wahm. I am an assistant to our AVON manager. I have been a member of Family Corner for several years although I do not post a lot but I read a lot on there. I have lots and lots of cookbooks, recipes I have taken from magazines, and lots of recipes saved on my hard drive. I have been receiving the newsletters from MomsMenu and when I heard that they now have forums...I had to join!!! My job and younger kids keep me busy but I will try to get on the forums as much as I can. I would love to make more creative dishes but my husband is basically a beef and taters man and he would eat it every single day if I would cook it. Also, the older he gets, the picker he gets.

This is my first post here. I've lurked for a while but just recently registered.

I'm a SAHM to four children, James (14), Jeremiah (12), Miranda (10), and Isaac (1.75). I'm in the general St. Louis area. I love cooking and have recently begun searching for new meals to add to my "normal" cooking rotation.

My goal is to be able to make something different for dinner every night for two full months. That is my goal. My reality is that I have a very picky daughter and a son with food allergies, so that makes finding something that everyone can and will eat a challenge. But, I love a challenge and since setting the goal, I introduced two new recipes last week and both were basically successful. One my daughter looked at and sneered, but that is typical for her with anything "new." I figure if 5 out of 6 of us like it, it passes into the collection.

Um, okay, enough rambling, off to search thru the recipes for something new for tonight.:D

Hi everyone! I'm Jo-Anne from Brampton, Ontario -- I located the website from FamilyCorner where I am known as "housefullofturkeys". I don't know why I signed up differently. I guess I'll just have to track my posts some other way. I can't say I enjoy cooking...around here its just kinda throw it on the table as fast as possible and hope for no food fights!! I do try new things once in awhile, though. I bake with the kids, but not so much these hot summer days. I mostly enjoy finding new ways to save money on the same old groceries and am trying to be more healthy. It was once suggested to me to only shop on the outside edges of a grocery store. I am trying to do that, but have to creep into the baking isle once in awhile -- like this week, I'm out of flour -- a definate no-no!
I'll be around and post some recipes when I can.

Taken me awhile to get here but now that mike is home I may have more time!

Most of you know me from Family Corner...where I am a total addict. For those of you I am new to I am married to a military hubby who just retruned from a 6 1/2 month tour of duty in Afghanistan. We have 3 kids ....2 boys ages 12 and 10 and 1 girl 8 years old. We live in Canada and I run a home daycare. I love to cook so I am sure the forum will provide me with lots of ideas for the kitchen! I have always enjoyed the momsmenu newsletter.
