So, what is your favorite sauce to put on BBQ chicken? We've been buying bottled BBQ sauce, but I am betting I could make some BBQ sauce myself that would taste even better.

Any suggestions? We like BBQ sauce that is a bit more sweet instead of more tangy.

As for storebought sauces, I like K.C. Masterpiece, either classic blend or the hot and spicy. I like the sweet tomato sauces, personally.

We have several that we like and they are all easy to make. Here's one of them!

BBQ Sauce

2 tbsp olive oil
1 cup finely chopped onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp firmly packed brown sugar
1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dry mustard
1/2 cup dry white wine
1/4 tsp liquid smoke
1 bay leaf, crumbled
dash hot pepper sauce

Heat oil in a large pan and add onion and cook till translucent; stir in garlic and cook 1 minute more. Add remaining ingredients and reduce heat and simmer 15 to 20 minutes. Makes 1 1/3 cups

I like to get the cheap stuff. My favorite flavor is Hickory Smoke or Mesquite.

Here's another good homemade one:

Barbecue Sauce:

3 cups chili sauce
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp granulated garlic
1 tsp chili powder
1/4 cup liquid smoke
1 1/2 cups apple cider vinegar
3 tbsp brown sugar
1 1/2 cups coffee
1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp salt

Combine all of the ingredients in a heavy bottom saucepot. Bring to simmer and cook for 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to cool. Chill till needed.

My favorite is called Dangerous Dan's ...mostly because I make it with a friend and we market it. Soon to be online lol. We are both Southerners living in the Northeast and thought what was sold up here was dreadful so we started making our own. So far, it is used in four restaurants and they all sell our bottles too.

Either homemade or Sweet Baby Ray"s. Larry Raymond, the maker, is from our city. If you can't find it, go to the website. It is really good.

Hello, I'm new here. I have a BBQ recipe that I have used for about 30 years. It's from an old Better Homes & Gardens cookbook.

1 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup salad oil
1 8-oz can tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
2 tsp salt( optional)
1/4 tsp pepper
(I add a couple tablespoons of liquid smoke to mine)

Saute onions til soft in salad oil or butter. Add other ingredients & simmer for about 20 mins. I usually have alot left over so I put it jars & seal them for later use. If you put it in jars, do it while it is real hot. Leave 1/ inch space between top of jar & lid. I use regular canning jars with lids.

Minny, is that the old orange colored Betty Crocker cookbook? That is the old one I have from when I was newly married, and it has lots of good recipes in it!

I got my cookbook about a year after I got married., so I've had it since 1963. I can't see any place in it that has the printing date, but some of the pages came loose & have gotten lost through the years. Mine is a red & white checkered one from Better Homes & Gardens. I use it more than any other cookbook I own. I have an old one that belonged to my Mom & I do use that one sometimes.
