My dad just officially retired from the Army today and he is on his way to visit before he goes home. I am trying to think of a quick surprise for him that we could do when he pulls up in the driveway. Does anyone have any quick tips? i don't have much time he will be here soon. Please help? Thanks

Just not green scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes!! LOL
I would think anything you pulled together that was made with love would be appreciated.

I assume your dad's visit is over by now and I didn't see this in time to give an answer. What did you decide to do for him? I'm sure he enjoyed whatever it was. :)

Gabsmom, how did it go? I hope you were able to throw together something spectacular.
I keep a few ingredients for just such occaisions. I can throw together chicken and dressing casserole, yams, and green bean casserole if I have 15 minutes notice. All I need in the pantry is: 1 large can of chicken, cornbread stuffing mix, cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, 2 cans green beans, French fried onions, and 1 can yams. All I need is 1 stick of butter, which I usually already have in the fridge.
In a 2-qt casserole, melt the butter in the microwave. Add the can chicken, cream of chicken soup, and stuffing mix. Microwave high for 8 minutes stirring once or twice. Everyone knows how to make green bean casserole. All you have to do is heat up the yams and you have a meal in a pinch. I keep these items on hand just in case. You don't have to worry about keeping the meat fresh or anything like that.
I hope your time and meal went well.

I'm sure a visit with his family no matter how quick whether with a big meal or a little one would be fine, he's come to see you and catch up. He'd also know what little prep time he's given you and doesn't expect anything big and fancy.
Just enjoy the quality time you have together.

Hey Ladies, sorry it took so long to get back with you. He ended up getting in late so I was able to do anything for him so we have decided to throw him something when he comes back for our daughter's christening.
