Hello,
I need some help from you ladies. My daughter's christening is fast approaching. I am not sure what I would like to do for the dinner that day. I was wondering if after the christening if we should all come back to the house to eat or if we should go out to dinner. I want to get your opinions on this. If you think that we should come back to the house to eat also give me your opinion on the items that you would think would be nice to have also. Thanks so much.

If you decide to do the meal at home, plan things that you can cook ahead. For example, you can make some appetizers that can be made ahead and just brought out from the freezer. Some items could be cheese balls, onion dip (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=218), chalupa dip (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=379), or pinwheels (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94). Some hot dips can be made ahead and heated up at the last minute such as artichoke and spinach dip (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95). For the main dish, you could stick a roast in the crockpot so that it will be done when you get home from the Christening. Baked potatoes are something you could cook prior to leaving and they should stay warm in the oven after you turn them off. You could offer all the fixins for the potatoes too. Casseroles are also a good idea as they can be made ahead of time and placed in the oven to bake as soon as you get back and take about an hour to cook. I personally like Poppy Seed chicken (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114) as most everyone seems to enjoy that. Salads are also good because you can make those ahead of time as well. You can buy the fozen bread rolls and have them rising while you are at the Christening and then bake when you get back. Decorations can be done ahead of time as well.
I hope that those are some ideas that will help you. I do as much ahead of time as I can. Then, the little things can be done just prior to the meal and others can help with minimal effort and you look like you didn't do much work. lol
Have fun and good luck, whatever you decide to do.

I am curious to what type of decorations you could actually do for this. I have been going about 90 miles a minute and decorations actually slipped my mind. What decorations would you guys use for this?

One decoration you could do would be to make a plate of homemade party mints (http://www.momsmenu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=228). You could use molds from a craft store if you don't already have them. They have molds for baby showers that would have some baby theme.
As far as other decorations, what about the type decorations for baby showers, religious, or weddings? Any of these would have some things that you could use such as white, crosses, babies, and so on. You could also drape some white fabric over the doors or other places?
Hopefully, this thread will be in this coming newsletter and more ideas will poor in.
Good luck.

That would be great. We have decided not to have it at home we are going to go out to eat. I know I will have to keep the decorations minimal there, but I am still going to attempt to decorate the room that we are in. Thanks so much for your help.

We had a nice buffet brunch at the house afterward, that was 23 years ago! Easier on the baby, quieter than a restaurant and if he/she is ready to sleep, bed is nearby. If there are young children in attendance, they can blow off steam in the backyard or another room in the house away from the grownups when they get bored, and they do! We did trays of meats and cheeses, hard rolls, fruit trays, coffee, coffee cakes, and of course cake. They can do one in the shape of a cross, a lamb with cross is also nice.Use paper plates to expedite clean-up and share leftovers with the family. All the food can be purchased the day ahead. So much nicer, and people can get a chance to talk among themselves easier than in a restaurant. if it is in the summer, a picnic in the park is also nice.
Bless you, you family and child on this wonderful occasion!
