It isn't a brand new item, but new to me! i bought the KitchenAid ice cream attachment for my mixer. It has to be the most wonderful and mess less way of making ice cream. Add the chilled ingredients and no salt and no ice to mess with; turn it on and let it mix about 20 minutes and you have soft serve ready to eat! If you wnat a more frozen version stick it in the frezer in another container till it hardens. I find mnyself making homemade ice cream and sherbets much more often since I purchased this. So if you have the KitchenAid stand mixer and like toi make ice cream this product will surely please you! I would also be interested in exchanging ice cream recipes to use with it!

Does anyone know if you can still buy those old fashions crank type ice cream makers? If so, where?

Y ou can get them at a farm store we shop at locally. They hae a web site : www.ruralking.com
You might check on line and see if they have them there. I'll keep my eyes open; I know I have seen them recently in other places also!

I am surprised that the handcranked makers are more expensive than the mechanical! I would have thought the mechanicals would be more expensive.

Seems all the companies have gotten on the band wagon and sell all the "retro" stuff for big bucks! Guess all the baby boomers want the old things they remember as a kid. Now if we only knew we'd want that stuff again when everybody else was throwing it out to get the new stuff.

I used to have an icecream maker--the old hand-crank type--when my children were small. I do not know what happened to it.

I found a Rival 8550X Hand operated ice cream maker for $48.70. It's a 5 quart model. That is about the only one I've found that isn't over $100.00! Can't believe how HIGH they gone!
