Here's a neat trick I discovered when I was teaching kindergarten. Kids love to cook and love to measure. They like to do it themselves and with as little help as possible. I used to have index cards with pictures of measurements (i.e. two tablespoons on a card for 2TB, 1 cup, etc) and I would put them in a sequenced book for the kids with a picture and the word of each ingredient. They could follow the sequencing to combine the ingredients with very little help.

Thanks for that idea! I will try this with my little guy. He loves to help in the kitchen.
He actually won (from this site) a nice set of color coded measuring cups and spoons, so I could "color code" the recipes with a picture of the cup or spoon, and the number next to it. It hadn't occurred to me to do this to other recipes besides the one that came in the cookbooklet with the cups!

That's a great idea! I wish I'd have heard that when my oldest was that age. My youngest, who's 6, doesn't really care much about cooking. The oldest, that's another story. We had to buy him an Easy Bake oven for Christmas. Of course, he'd rather cook on a real stove. LOL

:D I love this idea too! My kids love to help me cook. My son is ready to start cooking by himself now.

Sometimes I was lucky enough to find preprinted cards in teacher magazines and that was so great because I have a tough time drawing the cards! The next step is to have them help you draw them out after you make something together. It's so much fun.
