Dump Cake
1 can pineapple tidbits
1 can cherries in syrup
1 package yellow cake mix
1 stick of butter
In a 9X13 pan, dump the cans of fruit and spread out. Then, dump out the cake mix and spread out evenly. Then, cut the butter into pieces over the top evenly. Bake in a 350 degree oven until hot and bublly.
I personally like to put pecans in with the fruit.

I haven't tried it with any other fruit. I personally think the pineapples and cherries make it.However, if you do use other fruit, please let me know how it turns out.

Ok I will be sure to let you know as soon as do.
I was just thinking about dump cake the other day. I've never made it but it is good.
I don't bake but this cake sounds fool proof. I think I may try it with peaches.

It is full proof. The church we attended in Texas always had a bake-off every Valentine's Day. The men baked desserts and the women judged them! My DH came home from work, threw this together, took a shower, and brought this while it was still hot. He won first place over the men, many of whom spent days on their desserts. I'd really like to know how it turns out with peaches.

sweetnell3, so did you double the pineapple since you didn't use the cherries also or did just one can of pineapple work?

Nell, that sounds like my DH's family. I get some of my best recipes from his family reunions. There were 4 kids in his mother's family. Each of those kids had kids, and so on. Now the children of my DH's cousins are grow and bring their own children to the reunion. There were 50 coming when I first got married 27 years ago and that included children and some friends that family members brought.

This year there was a light turnout, last year there was about 60 people. this is for his mothers and dads side of famlies combined. We have lost alot of the older ones, his dad is 80 & his mom turn 78 in April.Out of the eight kids all but one married and had kids . I think there is 18 grandkids and 10 greatgrandkids.

Do ya'll exchange a lot of recipes? Have you ever considered checking into a family cookbook? I've done one for a charity for raise money and have often thought it would be good to have for a large family.

If we eat something someone has made and like it we do get the recipe. No we haven't done a family recipe book but it sounds like a good idea.

That is a good idea, I got my grandmother's cookbooks which she had writtten notes into, but there are somethings she just didn't write down that I still try to copy the way hers tasted. So a family cookbook is never too early to get started on.

Nell, I will PM you a few sites that you can investigate that make family heirloom cookbooks. I cannot get my private messages to work right now, but when I do, I will send them to you. Also, you could do a search for "fundraising cookbooks" where you will find tons of cookbooks. That was how we did it before. We were allowed to pick pictures, colors, etc.. We had to type up all the recipes ourselves and then send them in. The company printed them out and bound them. They were shipped to us at which point we sold them in the community. However, this was before the Internet though. I am sure these companies allow you to type them in a Word document and email them in. But, I am not sure.

I wish that I had got recipes from my grandmother.
I have one handwritten by my grandmother hanging in my kitchen; I had it framed. What makes it so special is that she had written a note to me on it, one of my treasures!;)
