Recall Announcement: Peter Pan & Great Value Peanut Butter

The FDA is asking consumers to destroy Peter Pan brand and Great Value brand peanut butter, because it is contaminated with Salmonella. Destroy any jars that begin with product code 2111.

I found one of these jars in my pantry, and am just feeling lucky that we hadn't opened it yet.

I had just bought two 6 pound containers of it at Sam's last week and they both have that number on them. I contacted ConAgra Foods and they said to discard it, but save the product lid. For a full refund return the Peter Pan Peanut Butter OR Great Value Peanut Butter lid along with your name and mailing address to:

I was talking about this to some moms at preschool this morning. I'm beginning to suspect that ALL their Peter Pan PB has that 4-digit code to begin the long number on the lid. Every one of us who had any Peter Pan in the house had that code on it.

My suspicion is correct....the first 4 numbers are the Plant Code, and ALL Peter Pan PB (and SOME Great Value PB) comes from that ONE plant, per an article in my local newspaper today (http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/103-02152007-1299884.html).

Thanks for the information. I only have Jiff and I checked the PB at the mental health center today and theirs was Jeff too.

A friend of mine is contacting our local food pantry so they can pull all the PB there.

Next time I food shop I will pick up some extra PB to help restock the food pantry.

Happy to let you know I finally go my check in the mail from ConAgra Foods for my peanut butter! They sent me a check for $16.00 to cover the cost plus the cost of mailing them the lids! Wondering now when we will ever see Peter Pan peanut butter again!
