What is/were your plans for New Year's Eve or New Year's Day? Will you be cooking something special or drinking something special? With friends or alone with family?

NYE is my DH's birthday. I am thinking about grilling him rib eyes and baked potatoes.

DeBora that sounds great. I will make the traditional southern fare, greens(cabbabe), and hoppin' johns(peas and rice) not sure of the rest of the menu but that's about it

I want to come to your house. My DH doesn't like a lot of the Southern foods as they are either fried or spicy. He definately doesn't like greens or black-eyed peas as I do. lol

Nell, I hope you and Audrey have a blast at your party. I still need to ask DH what he wants to do on his birthday. I am sure he will want the rib eyes though.

Nell, it's amazing what kids will do when they want something. lol DH is working the graveyard shift. With all the company we've had and taking DS to the airport yesterday, today will be the first time I will have to talk to him about what he wants to do on his birthday on NYE. But, unless he wants to go out to eat, I will probably grill him rib eyes.

DeBora one of the things I want to work on this year is to try to get Audrey where she can spend more time with her friends and to trust she will do the right thing while she's away from me. I sure she will but as you know its hard letting go LoL! Anyway I hope your dh has a great birthday! Give him birthday wishes from me.

I think I have had a more difficult time not worrying about my children since they have been grown than I ever did when they were little. I could always kiss it and make it better when they were little or at least know where they were at all times. I could control their friends and what they did. As adults, I worry about who they are hanging out with or whether or not they are eating right and so on. Letting go is definately difficult.
I talked to DH today and he said he wants the rib eye on his birthday, which is NYE.

DeBora you could have certainly come over for dinner New Years Day. I had plenty. So much in fact I had to bring some to work. I love spicey food, I try not to fry too much but every now and again some homemade fried chickend is great

It sounds like you had a blast! I too love spicy food, but I am the only one who likes it. There is some hope for my DGD and maybe my DGS. lol They both love pinto beans and cornbread. I make the beans with rotel tomatoes and the cornbread is the Mexican type the a litle jalapeno. Both their parents hate that type of food. lol

oh no. As a family we would all love that. most times when I fry chicken I soak it in tobasco sauce overnight to give it flavor lol. My entire family loves it and request that I make my "special" fried chicken for gatherings.

I guess since I saute rather than fry for DH I could marinade his chicken breast in hot sauce; never thought about that. Is there a certain amount you use per pound of chicken?
