Since the food tags thread was getting so long, I thought I would start this thread here. What do ya'll think?

I hope everyone is doing well! I am going to see if I can go back to bed for about an hour or less. Yesterday was a busy one for me. Today is the day that I have classes until 9pm.

Well, I hope everyone is doing well! I hope to hear from you!

Pour me another coffee and I'll gladly sit here all day!

It'll be a busy day, though. I have lunchroom duty at DD's school, and then I'm picking up a Tomato Press from someone on freecycle. Home for a bit, then I have to get DD and her friend at school. This is their day to visit the nursing home with a group of kids & teachers from school. Then, get dinner on the table quick so we can get to DD's basketball game tonight

All in all, I'll be in the car a lot. Wish I had internet access behind the wheel :D

Speaking of coffee, I have decided to make myself some. I usually don't drink coffee in the morning, but with 7 hours of class time in one day, ending at 9pm, I think my body will thank me. lol

Barb, what does your lunchroom duties include? What is a tomato press? I have never heard of that.

Well, as soon as my coffee finishes brewing, I will need to force myself to get dressed for school. I am usually a morning person, but I just can't seem to get going in the mornings this week.

I hope my shirt isn't too hairy. I accidently left Bonte's little doggy bed at home and he goes stir crazy when I am gone and tears up the place. Monday, I came home to find the contents of my bathroom trash all over the living room. (Remember, I live in an RV, so you can imagine!) Yesterday, I put the bathroom trash up high. But, when I came home from school I had some tee-shirts that I had folded and laid out on my mini-freezer for today all over the floor! I cannot wait for my DH to come Thursday evening so that he can bring Bonte's little security bed! lol

Well, I had better get my caboose in gear and my car warming up so I can get a decent parking space at school. I can get on the computer at school.

I hope everyone has a wonderful hump day!

Sounds like a good idea DeBora! I just wasn't sure about how to "close" the other thread. Was thinking myself last week Food Tags was getting a tad bit long.

Seems like we are all busy, busy! I'm making the fudge and cookies today for my DS's and their bosses. We take those and the three boy kittens to the pet store in Louisville tomorrow and here it is the day before and I'm doing the baking; just didn't get it done earlier! SO guesss I'll be on the computer, do a task, and back on the computer, do a task... well you get the idea! LOL

Sweetnell, hope you and Audrey are doing well! See you all around here later; have a good day!

DeBora thanks for starting this thread.Cat wish I could be at your house I would be sneaking into your goodies.Barb glad to see you join in,when my daughter was younger I did lunchroom duty,a lot of the kids got where they would give me hugs and kissies it always made my day.Audrey got to go to karate last night they are thinking of chaning the hour to 6 to 7:30 it would help with the kids that have a lot of homework so they can still come to karate, but still have time for homework so they don't have to stay up late. Have a good day ladies!

DeBora, Luke and I have been doing lunchroom duty for 3 years now (and I did it for 3 years before he was born). We volunteer once a week. In this school it is VERY easy work. We set up the milk and juice that the kids can buy, and pack up the drinks for the kindergarten who eat in a different building. We set up the chips and pretzels that are for sale. We hand out the containers of lunch (on Wednesday it's baked ziti) and forks to the kids as they hand us their ticket. We wash the tables and chairs after each of 3 seatings. That's pretty much IT! The rest of the job is just being friendly to the kids, making sure they clean up their trash, and that they don't throw stuff  My godchild is in 2nd grade there, as well as my DD in 5th, and my godchild always gives me big hugs when she sees me. Now, some of her friends do as well!

Today I was given 3 portions of "extra" baked ziti to take home. Just ate one for lunch. YUM.

A tomato press is basically a food mill. You run the tomatoes through, using the hand crank. It will separate the good tomato stuff from the seeds and skins. Both my neighbors and I will get use out of it at the end of next summer. This press looks practically new, nice and clean, and is still in the box. Best of all it's not SO huge--so it will be easy to keep until tomato season.

See you all later! It's almost time to go get DD at school.

Stock up on wood indoors as it is suppose to get bad tonight and stay yhat way til friday! Hope everyone has a good evening!

Cat, I guess great minds think alike! Wow Cat, you are busy, busy, busy!

Nell, I hope the new karate time works out for you and Audrey.

I learn something new every day! Baked ziti? Such fringe benefits! lol

I just got home from school. I am beat. I want to check up on some emails and posts since I have so many! I need to study for a criminal procedural law exam that is on Friday night. I have 3 meetings tomorrow evening. Tonight was such a wonderful night in forensics though. I cannot wait for finals for this topic to be included on it. It included pathology, toxicology, and blood spatter. Most of it I knew, but it broadened that information. I will spare everyone the gorey details. lol

I hope everyone has a terrific evening and a good day tomorrow!

Glad you had a good class tonight DeBora.Cat hope everything is going well for you tonight,if you are traveling tomorrow I hope that you get there and back saftey! cat did you decide what kitten or was it kittens that you are keeping? I know when I put up our tree that we are going have fun keeping our kitten out of it as I can see her sitting in the tree near the top lol.I have enough trouble keeping the grown ones out of it but they don't climb it! Have a good nights rest you all!

Nell, we kept the two girl kittens, one black stripe,DH named her Tiger, and one m,ostly grey with some grey stripe, DH named her GreyBaby. He actually named them BEFORE I picked them as the keepers!LOL I really had a hard time giving away the three boys yesterday! I cried again! I KNOW I can't keep them all, but it is awlful hard to give them away after seeing them born and raise them for eight weeks! I kept telling them (and myself) they'll get good Christmas homes. DH told me we have to stop the production, so I had Red neutered Tuesday; I felt bad doing it, but it was time. I dind't even think about it, but we COULD have one more litter according to the vet. I just couldn't keep them apart for another whole month! But if we do we will know this will be the last one.

So went to the pet store yesterday with the kittens because we are to get lots of rain today and then snow tomorrow, not a lot of snow I don't think, but who knows!
We actaully have enough wood ready for the entire winter plus more. I have a DR power wagon to haul it over to the house when I need it. I also have 5 racks full in our "emergency" stash in the woods off the porch as well as 2 racks on the porch and I keep a small load in the mudroom on a small rack.
We have lots that still need to be split, but I'll never get to all that this whole winter to actually burn, so no big deal if I don't get it split. I wouild like to though because there are 5 trees down in the woods I would like to get cut up and in the staging area for splitting later.

DeBora, going to call a lawyer today about the (!?&^%!) harrassment we talked about earlier. It is time to do some legal work on it; I'm not backing down and need to put a "legal" stop to it. So wish me luck in getting something done. I think I have all the "paperwork", pictures and all I need to maybe get something taken care of.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Good Morning Ladies! Cat ,I'm like you when it gets to baby kittens I get so attach it is hard to part with them! We have a male stripe cat that dh calls tiger but I call him tigger. It is 35 degress right now,its been raining since last night it started around 10:00.But Audrey still gets to goes to school as its just cold and wet. It should sleet and snow this afternoon so Audrey may get to stay home tomorrow as it is really suppose be bad. Got the stove crank up so its nice and warm.We have plenty of wood but I want to load the wood rack up inside so we would have dry wood. Will not go anywhere tonight as it is suppose be slick on the roads so I won't drive the roads.DeBora hope you will have a good day at school.Bilby enjoy that pretty weather for me too,it must be nice. Hope all is well in your part of the world.Have a wonderful day ladies!

DeBora, it's a nice fringe benefit sometimes! LOL! Our school has no food service per se, so the food is all brought in from someplace except for Thursday's hot dogs. On Wednesday a local Italian restaurant sells us the pans of ziti (or meatball sandwiches on some weeks). DH took the rest for his lunch at work today.

I am anxiously waiting for DD's basketball coach to get on it and give us a schedule! I need to start planning dinners for December, and I don't know how many games they have and when they are. Finally got DS's winter track schedule, so as soon as I have DD's schedule I can figure out the meals.

Cat lover, how much snow do you usually get where you live, in the course of a winter? I lived in northern Indiana for one year and it snowed EVERY DAY. I think I wore my full-length down coat daily from November through March!

Good luck on your exam, DeBora!

DeBora4BobbyL
11-30-2006, 12:39 PM
Cat, good luck with the lawyer. When you call the cops, I am assuming with you it would be the sherriff, you should tell them that YOU would like to file charges. Most of the time they might just talk to the guy and tell him to stop whatever. But, if you tell them that YOU want to file formal charges against that person, they have to do it. However, that does mean that you have to go down to the office and fill out paperwork and be there for the court apprearance. But, it won't cost you any money.

Barb, does the school not have cooking facilities? SOrry about the coach being so late in getting a schedule to you. I have just about had it will non-scheduled people. It makes my life more complicated for me to reschedule my life because someone else cannot schedule theirs. Grrr.

Kathy, I think maybe we should move to Australia for the winter and then move back to the States during the summer. lol You are just getting warm as we are getting cold here.

Nell, I hope you are safe today and tonight. I think winter has hit everyone at the same time. I am now having to turn my water off at night so it won't freeze.

I had a lab meeting at 4pm, but my professor emailed everyone and said that he has a talk this afternoon that conflicts with the meeting time so he is moving it to 5pm. Well, I have a student I have to tutor at 5pm and another meeting at 6pm. So, I let him know that I had another meeting and would not attend. I hate having to do things in the evening. I am not a night person. DH will be coming down to visit for almost a whole week as soon as he gets off work tonight! I hope everyone is having a great day.

cat lover
11-30-2006, 01:48 PM
DeBora,I have to laugh! Yes I deal with the sheriff's department here, the state police, and the DNR, but they already know when we (I) call they will be dealing with me! You're right at first they always wanted to go to the man, but they learned quick; talk to ME! LOL

I think the attitude here in the country is the old way. Even the lawyer told me I have a good handle on it because most women around here won't do that. They also know I'm the one with the gun and I'm the one that goes out at night or whenever for any trouble.

It is like that lots of places though. Even yesterday in the city I needed ammo and so the guy goes up to DH, and he tells them"she's the one with the gun" talk to her her! LOL

Barb, we usally don't get a tremendous amount of snow(on average I'd say 15") not at one time usually!, But our problem is it melts during the day and refrezzes at night so we get stuck in quite a bit! One year, two years ago we got 30" in one snow!

Sweetnell, nothing like having that wood stove going! We haven't had ours on yet today; we have to out a bit! Have a good evening everyone!

DeBora4BobbyL
11-30-2006, 03:01 PM
I guess I have never had that problem. I have 2 handguns, one is a revolver and the other is a 40 cal. semi-auto. My DH has no clue which type ammo is used for target pratice and which is used for protection. But, here many people, male and female have guns, so that may be the difference. Still, if you tell the officials that you want to file formal charges against this person, they have to comply if this person has broken the law. Good luck!

DH said is snowed 2 inches in Carlsbad! Here it was just cold and dry. We had no snow. He was suprised since Carlsbad, Artesia, and Roswell all got snow. I just hope when he comes down tonight that he doesn't bring it with him. lol

11-30-2006, 03:14 PM
DeBora, they have a rather good kitchen in the school, which is why I don't get why they won't have a lunch program like our smaller school had last year! 100 kids (half the school) on average were fed per day, at a cost of $1.90 per meal to the parent. That meal included entree, a side or 2, fresh fruit, and beverage. For example, you might get spaghetti with meatball (that was homemade sauce too), green salad, bread with butter, apple, pineapple chunks, and a drink. This place gets it "catered" but all you get is the entree. On hot dog day you get a hot dog. Nothing else. On ziti day you get ziti. No bread, no salad, no fruit. $3 for just ziti.

Oh well. Don't get me started. I imagine there's some politics behind this which, being new, I am unaware of.

sweetnell3
11-30-2006, 04:20 PM
Here at our middle and high school they have a regular lunch line, then they have where you can get pizza slice, fries hambuger or nachos and alot of other choses. Our lunches run around 1.75 ,they had raised the prices at the first of the year when gas prices were high went they went down so did the lunch prices.Well good news looks like Audrey's math teacher is going to have her baby today or night. She went to the hospital from the school. The school let out early because the weather was getting worse here as it is starting to snow and sleet. When it snows here it doesn't stay long but thats okay thats the way I like it as I won't drive on it.

DeBora4BobbyL
11-30-2006, 05:06 PM
Barb, I am like you, if they have the cooking facilitites, then there must be a reason they are going the higher cost route that doesn't include the more nutitious sides. Sorry about that.

Well, my 4 oclock meeting was changed to 5pm. I told my professor I wouldn't be there since I have to tutor a student a 5pm. Now, the 5pm student appointment called me and wants to meet at 4pm. Go figure. lol At least my DH is coming tonight and will be here most of the week.

Oh we stayed warm okay. The onl;y heat we have is a wood stove, no electric heat, propane heat and any other kind except the woodstove. When we built and moved here we made sure we would be self sufficient with several things like heat, water and bathroom! Wood stove for heat and to cook on, besides the drilled well we have a hand pump well for water, and since if the electric goes out and no water from the drilled well that means no bathroom, so we have the outhouse! LOL Just love it all! Very laid back living!

Oh gosh, I don't think I could even name all them much less put them in order!

Hope all are having a good day!

I never took a lanuguage in school( back when I went it wasn't required), but that would be so neat to be able to converse with others! That is wonderful that Audrey will be able to help them out! I bet your legs are tired from yesterday!

Going to be another really cold day outside; 28 degrees right now and only going up to 32 today! All we have to do outside today is feed and water all the animals so that will only take about 2 hours. I gave them all fresh bedding and some extra straw yesterday and in the breeders pen for the chickens I put on a heat lamp at one end; they can't get under it, but it will keep some warmth in the coop. Don't want them getting too warm and relying on it all winter! The other coop is insulated really well and doesn't require any actual heat added. I think sometime when it is a warmer day I'm going to start insulating the breeder coop so I won't have to have a lamp on sometimes.

All the dogs and cats have insulated houses and all but one have multiple animals also so thay all stay warm.

Have a good day!

Nell, that is cool that Audrey can utilize what she has learned in her Spanish classes. I have had to take 2 years of Spanish here to get my BA. Most degrees require a foreign language, but since we are so close to the Mexican border, it has to be Spanish. I hope you are able to share the pictures you took of Audrey.

Going to be another cold day here. It is 15 degrees outside right now! The fire was almost out when I got up so working on it right now getting it going again; it's 62 degrees in here right now. Makes good sleeping temperature! Back when we lived in a house with a normal natural gas furnace we used to turn the heat down to 60 degrees at night; doctor orders for DS#2 for his asthma and allergy problems. At first I thought he was nuts! LOL But it worked! Then during the day we never went above 65 degrees. It is so cold here that my hands hurt even inside the building. I will be working inside the lab until 4pm. Then I have to meet my group for community psych to put together our poster and then take Bonte to the Vet for his shots. He still doesn't have testes, so I will inquire as to the status of that and see if that will be a more aggressive surgery when we get him fixed.

The cold weather is here too.

I am making good use of it though--I'm defrosting the freezer. All the food is in coolers on my back porch.

Barbszy, I need to defrost mine too, but the bargins kept showing up in the groceries! LOL So I really need to let it empty some while winter is still here so I can put my food out on thep orch while I defrost. A neighbor of mine says she runs the garden hose into her freezer to defrost it! Then she hooks a hose up to thedrain to drain it; she says it defrost much faster! I'm thinking of lookinf into mine and see if that is a possible way to do mine. I'm for anything that makes that job easier!

Sweetenell, hope your back is feeling better! Does the cold weather make it worse or just all the walking? Were you able to get those DANCE gifts?

DeBora, oh animal shots! Since we have 12 animals now I give the baby shots and yearly shots to them all, but still go to the vet for rabies shots and other things I can't do. There is a veterianary supply house in the big city that will sell them to me; at the vet they usually run around $10.00 a shot plus the office visit; I pay $2.95 for each shot at the store.

Well just got an IM from a friend so better answer back. Have a good day!

All of you talking about defrosting freezers remind me that I need to defrost mine too. I will probably do that between semesters.

Nell, when does Audrey's school get out for break?

Cat, I forgot that you can give your own animals vaccinations. Oh well, we only have one more booster. I need to get DH to take some of Bonte's "poo-poo" in to check for parasites. Last night, when Bonte finally went to sleep, Itried to move him. He first growled at me as he didn't want to be moved. As soon as he moved back to the spot on the bed that I did not want him to sleep, I moved him again. He growled and then snapped at me! Well, he quickly found himself on the floor! I have never allowed my dogs to snap at anyone, especially me. After a bit, I allowed him back in the bed. This time, he was compliant when I moved him. lol

I hope everyone is having a great day. I have 3 subjects working on cognitive programs that take between an hour to two hours. Since I am in here making sure everyone is doing what they should, I bring my computer and work on things.

DeBora I even found my Frontline MUCH less expensive there! If you have any place like that near you I'd check it out. It seems so funny to go in there and see all these same products that the pet stores and even some discount stores sell and there they are much less! Woo-Hoo!

Need to go bake some fish for supper; I have it defrosted just don't feel like cooking tonight. The rest of the meal will be leftovers so not much to do!

Have a good night!

OkayI admit it I need to claen out my freezer just don't feel like it.As far as my back is concern it always bothers me around my monthly, also I pick-up a new computer that was in its box Friday,so it pull my back.It is better I'm just careful what I do for now.Audrey gets out of school Dec. 20 and goes back Jan. 4 it is also the end of the midterm when they get out and the start of the new term when they go back. we know that she doesn't have to take one test for sure and may get out of more of them.

DeBora4BobbyL
12-05-2006, 08:44 PM
Nell, my school gets out on the 15th (9pm for me) and starts back on the 18th of January. That is really cool that she'll miss most if not all her tests. I hope Audrey enjoys the time she does have off.

Cat, you had fish too? I made a tuna casserole and while I was eating it, I kept wondering why it didn't taste as good as it normally does. I forgot to put the peas in it! Oh well!

I finish signing up for all my classes today. Plus, my professor over the lab I work in said he would write letters of recommendation for me. He gave me some great compliments, which I NEVER get from him. I even made my appointment to take my GRE exam on the 21st. So, as soon as I have time, I need to practice more on my exam skills since it is 4 hours long.

Yep we had baked Pollack! Turned out good, I sprayed a cast iron skillet with olive oil sliced onions into it and put the fish on top and sprinkled Old Bay Blackened Seasoning on it.

Boy DeBora you are going to need that school break~ seems you've had test after test lately; guess because the end of a term?

Sweetnell, hope your back gets better soon! Nothing worse than a backache; can't sit long or stand long! Take care and hope you get to feeling better soon! Hope you and Audrey get to do some things you want while she's out of school; tell her I said hi!

DeBora4BobbyL
12-06-2006, 01:32 PM
Cat, fish does sound good. I may wait until DH goes back to Carlsbad and make myself some crab cakes.

Nell, I hope Audrey's headache is better today. I have had some headaches that lasted 3 days. That is why I do the nerve block approach.

Yeah, I do need a break. If I make the grade that I want on the GRE, then I will be finished except for the application process for the 6 graduate schools. That will mostly be sending off for my transcripts, writing letters of intent, making sure my letters of recommendation are sent off, and a few other little things. I need to do as much as possible before school is out so I won't have to drive the 3 1/2 hours back here until school starts again.

I hope everyone is having a great day. I have less than 3 hours before my 2 3-hour classes, so I am resting and catching up on emails and posts.

Spent the morning out splitting wood for three hours, tired now; wonder why? It is good excerise too so at least I'm getting a couple things done!Have the racks on the porch and theone in the mud room filled again and the small rack and pail up here by the wood stove is filled so we shouldn't have to go outside tonight for any wood. Supposed to drop in temp again and have those dreaded white flurry things tonight or in the morning. I let the fire burn out his morning, but will have to start it back up within a couple hours before the sun goes down.

Didn't get my veggie stew started this morning so I don't know what we will have for supper tonight yet.

DeBora hope you get everything in order so you don't have to make that drive again and can really relax on your break!

Tried reading, but then the cats thought oh mom's up let's play! So I have one of the kittens chasing my cursor, one climbing up my leg, one continuing to hit the keyboard to put in her two cents worth! LOLThe older cats woke up and went back to sleep! And of course DH is sound asleep and all the cats followed me!

Temperature outside is 31 degrees so guess that cold front we are to get hasn't quite gotten here yet. Supposed to be 2 degrees by sometime today!

Good morning sweetenell! I'm still up! We got our snow; hope this is all of it! We have about 1/4" on the ground and temp is dropping; it's 28 now. They are still saying 2 by tonight! Yikes!!! Will haveto give the outside animals some more straw today!

DH got up and I fixed him some Gimmie Lean sausage for him (it's fat free!), and I had a bagel so breakfast is over. Have to figure out what kind od soup for supper; I think we will appreciate a hot bowl of it tonight.

Don't blame Audrey for not wanting to get out of that warm bed this morning; hope she has a good day!

DeBora I'm sure you are busy with school~~~ so everyone have a good day!

Nell, my DD isn't a morning person and when she was Audrey's age, we took our lives in our hands waking her for school! lol Just keep telling her it is almost break time! It works for me and helps keep me going.

Cat, sorry you couldn't sleep. I hate it when I can't sleep. I used to have those nights, every night, but I now take Lunesta! That stuff is expensive, but it is wonderful and non-habit-forming. But, my sleep problems weren't occaisional. Btw, you can keep your snow. lol I hope you are keeping warm.

Well, I have to call the colleges I took classes at in Texas and have my transcripts transferred. Then, I have to type up my study guide for Forensic Law so that my study group and I can compare the few answers that we are asure of. Then, I have a meeting at 1:30pm with my team member for research to decide how we want to put together our poster presentation for finals on Monday. Finally, I have my final lab meeting in the Mind and Brain lab today at 5pm. They took our pictures for the lab's Web page, but the grad student that was supposed to put it on there still hasn't gotten around to it. However, if they ever do, I will share here. We ran out of propane this morning, so DH made a ran for gas so we can have heat. In NM, it has warmed up enough to keep warm with a little electric heater.

I hope everyone has a great day!

I liked snow as a kid, but not now, it is pretty looking out in the woods though and seeing it on the branches. I is soooo cold out 23 degrees but with the wind chill it is already down in th teens; still calling for that 2 degrees late tonight!

Going to open some soup I think I never did get anything fixed today! Mixed up some hot cocoa mix for DH and we got out the herbal teas and put them on the counter. Two tea kettles on the wood stove full of water.

Stay warm!

DeBora, that was so nice of your DH to do your laundry, I can't imagine what mine would look like though if my DH would ever touch it! LOL I made a special effort to be sure both my DS could do their own as they were growing up for that very reason!

We had a very productive day at DS#2 and his wife's. Got a lot accomplished and quite a bit put out for the junk pickup they have this week. We also ended up bringing lots of wood home that DH had left in the garage; DS decided he wouldn't need it after all.

I was tired so went to bed at 9 last night so guess I got in all the sleep I needed because 2:30 am I'm wide awke; so thought I'd get some computer work done. Have a good day all!

DeBora, you have more patience than me; I hate waiting on people! LOL Equally the waiting in the doctor's offices gets me too! LOL I usually take a book or some needlework with me for when it goes really slow!

DeBora4BobbyL
12-12-2006, 09:53 PM
Well, actually, it isn't like waiting at the doctor's office, which I HATE. I get them started and then I get to play on the computer or study. The real work, besides getting them started after they sign consents and debriefing them, is looking at the data. I have an appointment with my professor to take the data that I merged (from 41 participants) and get them ready for analysis next semester. The ones that frustrate me are the ones that are no shows. Then, they email me and beg me to make extra time to work with them as they need the participation credits for their psychology classes. Unless I have an opening that hasn't been taken, I have to tell them that they are out of luck. What is really bad for them is that this is the last week they can participate and most of the other research labs aren't even conducting research this week. That is what they get for procrastinating too long.

I hope you have fun in the city tomorrow.

Tonight, I took leftovers from everything, including chicken, cream of chicken soup, cheese, onion, peas, etc... and made up a casserole. DH loved it! Plus, I used up leftovers.

I hope everyone else is having a good week so far.

Karen, my GKs, DD, SIL, and DS are coming for Christmas. I haven't done much planning with exams and all, but I usually make a large dinner with plenty of munchies. I make armadillo eggs (cream cheese stuffed jalapenos wrapped in bacon), queso and chips, and other such goodies. My in-laws are also going to try and come as well. I'll probably wait until the last minute to plan, which is not my style to wait, but other things have been more important. We had pork roast for Thanksgiving, so I am wanting to have turkey for Christmas. Who all are coming to your house?

I hope everyone else is having a wonderful hump day. I am down to a little over 3 hours before my exam. We are getting together an hour before the exam to study.

I hope everyone else is having a wonderful hump day. I am down to a little over 3 hours before my exam. We are getting together an hour before the exam to study.
Ok you got me, what is "hump day"?

For christmas day my mum is coming down for 2 nights, and we will be going to my SIL place for our main meal of lunch, biiiiig BBQ with heaps of stuff. The menu mainly depends on what she is wanting, a surprise a wait and see LOL
I do know we are having a rice salad and a tossed salad as those are what I'm making to take. My mum is making fruit mince pies, MIL will bring dessert, BIL&SIL will bring not much if they can help it (but will eat lots)LOL We'll also take nibblies and drinks.
They have a pool so the kids will be in that and they have the most beautiful bay view of the water and Islands from their high front verandah.

We start the day with our own present openings, have ham eggs and croissants for breakfast, lunch at SIL, and porbably crawl home at 6pm and do nothing but veg out for the rest of the day. :D

Ok you got me, what is "hump day"?

Hump day is the middle of the week. It's the day that gets you over the hump in the week. I hope that explains it. Kathy, you sound like everything is all planned out. I hope you have a blast.

Nell, I hope everything is working out well for you this week.

Cat, I hope you are sleeping well now.

Well, I need to study for my final final. (Don't you just LOVE that play on words? lol) I hope everyone is doing well.

Nell, do you think you will be able to get Audrey through the door with that swollen head? LOL I am glad she is doing so well with the girls. Audrey sounds like she is good with people. She has 3 more days of school than I do. Tell her good luck on her exams.

Tomorrow I will work in the research lab taking the compiled data and getting it ready for SPSS to be analyzed next semester. I need to pick up my unofficial transcripts for one professor and order official ones for graduate schools. Then, I have one more exam on Friday night. It is the most difficult of all.

Have a great Thursday all!

Did finally sleep well last night; till 5:30 this morning; then..... all the motion lights came on and the alarm went off out by the barn. I couldn't find anything! So if it was a "somebody" they got a surprise and hope they hurt themself running away! LOL Wasn't a raccoon unless it is a smart one because the trap is still empty too! But we went to bed early last night so got in quite a bit os sleep before that awakening!

Bilby to answer youy question on the holiday... DH and I will be staying at home. I don't like driving on the hoildays; too many crazy people in too much of a hurry on the roads and some having too much festive drinks! LOL
Both the DS seem to understand that , but their "others" still have a hard time with it. I'll cook a nice preplanned meal for us two and might even invite the lady we had up for Thanksgiving to come up a bit; just don't know yet. DH may be having some medical things done and won't be up to any company then. Will have a lowfat ham, probably some potato salad, coleslaw and some other things I can fix ahead of time. Will do some fat free/ low fat sweets and some veggies too.

Wasn't even going to decorate any, but I think even though he says not I think DH might need some holiday decorations to up him some.I have a 1 foot tall tree that is decorated with miniature smores people and the set of Rudolph & friends characters that are about 6" tall that go with the tree. It just all seems to be made for each other size wise so may put that up in the mud room. One of my SIL's gave us a 1 foor decorated craft tree that I have sitting on top of the roll top desk. And then since we are decorated rustic everyday I have 3 pine trees of various sizes that sit out year round. One is "decorated" with rustic everyday things and I have clear lights on it; so guess I can just plug it in at night and "pretend" it's a Christmas tree! LOL

Hello Ladies! DeBora Audrey is good with kids though sometimes she gets upset when the don't mind!

Who doesn't get upset from time to time? Does Audrey understand that she was once that age? I mean, even if she wasn't that immature at that age, she was that immature. Anyway, I am going through this with my DD, except with my GKs. She is going crazy with my DGD because she thinks all toddlers pete and repete things and demand things. I keep telling her that my DGD is NORMAL and has no concept of time and will have none until she is about the age of 7. Argh! I will have her daddy talk to her!

I haven't studied today for my criminal procedural class. I am 3rd highest in the class. So, I am hoping that I enough to make an A. I will study all day tomorrow. Other than that, I will have to study the Constutition and the Supreme Court to ace this class! lol

I hope all are having a great day!

Ahhhh, just never quite thought of it that way, hump day huh.:D
Have fun studying the constitution.

I'm sorry to say I'm a person that at least needs a basic plan to function LOL, I can handle what is thrown at me to but I like to kinda have a plan. Many of my firends are disgusted at my liking of basic plans, but hey that's me and maybe I don't like their lack of plans  Maybe it was the lack of organisation of life when I was a kid, who knows and who really cares, ok I think I've fianlly flipped my lid and gone loopy and will just give up the computer for the day, or I can blame it on a busy week and now being friday, I've just let it all go.

I hope you all have a great friday, anything planned for this weekend?

Hi All! Hope you ace all your exams DeBora! Good Luck!

Sweetnell, I bet the necklace is pretty; maybe that could also be a "surprise" gift for Audrey?

Bilby glad to see you here! Our weekend plans are shopping-ugh! All the Christmas shopping is done and delivered, but our farm store is having a free tax day and we need chicken feed and some other animal supplies, so DH decided he wanted to go tomorrow. With it being he weekend and so close to Christmas I'm afraid even the small town will be busy! LOL But since we don;t have anything else planned I guess taking the time won't be too bad of a thing!

I still need to make some fat free/ low fat sweets for DH and me for the holidays so I think I'll try and get those done this weekend. Have a good day everyone!

Nell, I think Audrey will do well in life. She is a terrific kid and has a great personality. Tell her to let me know if she needs any help on the English part. I would help with the math, but I am allergic to it. LOL My next exam after finals is the GRE and we can not use a calculator for the math part. Can you believe that?

Karen, I am the same way when it comes to planning. We call it, "anal retentive" because I am such a plan-a-holic." lol I have never waited this long to plan Christmas. This just shows you how many irons I have in the fire. My plans for the weekend are to go HOME! Whoo Hoo!

Cat, have fun baking.

Well, as soon as I catch up on my emails and posts, I'll get back to studying for my last final! I also need to turn in my time for my tutoring job so that I don't have to come back here for awhile.

I finally finished my finals! WHoo Hoo! One question wasn't correct. Is was, "Who on the Supreme Court was raised Catholic but is now a Evengelical Christian?" I answered, "Thomas, but he reverted back to Catholicism in 1996." I showed my answer to the Judge. He saw Thomas and said that Thomas was correct. Then, I showed him that Thomas is actually a Catholic. He said, "So, you probably got the other answer correct." lol Of course I did, which was to list at least 2 justices who are Catholic! LOL Then, I asked for extra credit for knowing this information. ROTFL! He rolled his eyes and then grinned! That means if there is any discrepency to my grade, he will go in my favor. It pays to talk to teachers.

Nell, tell Audrey to always to be in good form with teachers, which I suspect that she is good at already! Tell her that she can email me anytime for questions and answers.

Now, I can do some Christmas plannning! Whoo Hoo! I can now be in the Christmas spirit! I want to teach my GKs to make Snowman stew and other cool stuff. I still have another exam to pass and that is the GRE. So, those of you who pray, please pray that I do well on the GRE as I need GOD's help on this one! Thanks ahead of time!

I leave tomorrow for HOME! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

DH is still asleep; I don't know how with 4 cats in the bed! They woke up and decided the bed was play time this morning and woke me up. Then one of the older cats climbed up the stairs on my side of the bed and hissed at the four in the bed and the chase was on!

Will get dessed as soon as it is daylight and go feed and water so we can hit the road early this morning; maybe. Have to give SH his haircut today sometime also. He looks like he did crawl out of the woods! LOL

Cat, the GRE is the Graduate Record Exam, which is required to get into graduate school. The LSATS are for Law School and the MCATS are for getting into Medical school. Sometimes even Law and Medical school also require the GRE. Plus, the GRE does not allow a calculator for the math!

Cat, our cat is why we keep the door to our bedroom closed. DH was so afraid we'd never get any sleep when we got Bonte. I told him that dogs aren't nocturnal creatures like cats. They actually sleep when we sleep! lol Have a safe trip today.

Nell, have fun shopping today.

We are scrapped for cash this Christmas, but I cannot talk DH into letting me grab Christmas in Juarez. He is so afraid the boogy man will get me. lol I heard that you now have to have a passport to go there so he wouldn't be able to go with me.

I will pack to go home as soon as it warms up. It's too cold to even get out of bed. lol Then, I will make myself breakfast and coffee and pack. I dread that as when Poncho sees that I am packing, he will hide. He has panick attacks just thinking about traveling in a car.

I hope everyone else has a terrific weekend.

We don't even have a bedroom door! As big as our house is square footage wise it is basically divided into two large rooms and no bedroom door. Hard to understand I know, but if you saw it you would understand. Since we really have no schedule most of the time I guess it really doesn't matter; I can chalk the no sleep up to old age! LOL

Went to Jasper and got all the chicken feed and some other things. Stopped at the thrift store and now I'm ahead on all my Christmas tins and plates and jars for next year's Christmas cookies, fudge, and hot drink mixes I make! Only paid 30 cents a piece for some I know where more than $2.00 retail! Now all I have to do is wash them good and pack them away till next year!

Cat glad to hear that you had a good trip and got what you needed! DeBora glad to know you may it home safely, how did Bonte do on the trip? Glad Bonte and the cat are playing I bet that is fun to watch! Well we made it to Sherman and back alright,we went to this one store can't tell you the name but there was a peto next to it so we checkit out as I had some cooupons for some free dog 5lb bag and a 4 lb bag of cat food that would have cost us 20 dollars had we had to paid for it. The kitten seeems to like it not sure about the older cats.Haven't gave the dog any of his yet. Then we went to the mall where we ate at a Mr. Wok it was good food. Then we went to a few stores there, then we went to a best buys store where I found a movie I was wanting. Then we went to a Old Navy store where I got Audery a pair of jeans that was regular29.50 for 20.00 and a shirt that was 14.50 for 10.00 dollars, had to warn her that she can't have them til Christmas as that is her main presents this year.I will also try to get her this one movie that comes out Tuesday that she really wants. We will get more stuff after Christmas when everything will be marked down. Wish ds had not back out going with us as we all needed to get away from here,it really help dh,dd and me to relax some. We left about 9 this morning and it was around 4:30 when we got home. I put a roast, potatoes, carrots and celery in the crockpot to cook for our meal tomorrow. Hope everyone has a good night rest!

Cat, lounging around in PJs sounds wonderful! I usually just wear large tees when I am home by myself as they are so comfy.

Can I ask why he's afraid of the bogey man for you, are you going into another country?

Yes, Juarez is in Mexico, just on the other side of El Paso, which is about 50 some odd miles from where I live in Las Cruces. First, Americans who get tangled with trouble get arrested and put away for a long time in Mexico. Americans have no rights there. I know many people who go shopping there all the time with no problem though. I have one friend who goes to the dentist there. But, I have heard that if you take your car there and get into a wreck, it is automatically the American's fault.

Also, currently there is a serial killer or killers on the loose there. Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deaths_in_Ciudad_Ju%C3%A1rez) is a link to the death count. I am sure there are other stories that are better though. They don't know who is doing it, but I see signs everywhere in Spanish asking for the rights of these women who have been killed.

If you are still in the cleaning mode, feel free to stop by my house! lol

I guess everyone else is doing well?

I have been working all day either studying for my GRE exam, which is Thursday or writing either my personal statements or my resume. I am so stressing over this who process! I am planning on going up to the college here in Carlsbad tomorrow to see my old boss, who tutors math. He is such a help with my math anxiety and test taking skills for math. He said he would be glad to tutor me.

Btw, we did do some shopping tonight and got some gifts for the GKs tonight. We are slowly but surely getting there for Christmas! Whoo Hoo!

glad to see you got some bargains, doesn't it feel wonderful when you do. I gather you do have space to store it all till next year?

Yes in the garage we have shelves built to hold large rubbermaid totes; I have about 50 of them. We store everything in those rather than boxes. Since we live in a rural area and are in the middle of the Hoosier National Forest you can imagine the mouse population! So this way IF they survive all the cats and get in long enough to live they can't chew up anything. And we have a barn, and two other out buildings as well as a one room cabin. So plenty of storage space!

The problem is once I unpacked from moving here I filled them back up with all my sewing needs and other things "to get to later"; SO I still need to go through them and condense. The ones I have gone through I have actually given things away; figured if I haven't needed it in 4 years I don't need it! LOL

Gloomy and foggy day out; temperature is to start dropping today and be in the 40's; still much warmer than usual this time of year!

Hope all are having a good day and getting done what you need to! Will check in later and see who dropped by!

Sorry that Audrey didn't pass math. Have you thought about having her go to a tutor each week or so? I went to a math tutor every semester I took math and it did me worlds of good. Hello all! Been staying off the computer waiting since Wednesday for DH's doctor to call. They finally called today and the last test didn't come back good either so now we have to go see him on the 4th of January; just hope the weather lets us get there!

Hope everyone has a good Christmas. DH and I are staying home; neither in much of a mood to celebrate with lots of noise and people! As this is still sitting on our minds on what is next with his health. These type of worries really make his brain injury rear its head and causes him much more confusion and he also can't take crowds. He bears with that most of the time, but with the extra worry right now i'm just not going to make him go into partying with all the noise and lots of people. So a nice quiet day at home will work out best for us.

Planning out menu for the day and we'll just do whatever we feel that day here at home. Well, better go and check up on some other things, have a good evening all!

Cat, sorry about the doctor's phone call. I know it must be difficult for the both of you. I wish I could do more than listen. If things get too intense for you, please talk to someone. I know I will be glad to listen anytime. I don't know about you, but sometimes it helps to know others are there for you or, even better, have been there and experienced that. I cannot be a person who empathsizes, but I am willing to listen. I too haven't been in the Christmas Spirit, but for different reasons. I am still applying to graduate schools. I think I would rather have my teeth pulled or pay taxes! Okay, I know the comparisons are not the same, but I hope it made you smile!\

Nell, tell Audrey that I can tell her stories about what happens to students who don't learn to organize themselves. I am naturally scatter-brained so I know. However, I have learned organizational some skills so well that people think that I am a perfectionist! I did not learn these skills when I had a great GPA. People are impressed with my organizational skills now! If they only knew how disorganized I really were! lol Anyway, when I was younger, I learned some things from a friend who took time management in college. I will be glad to share what I learned if she wants to know.

I need to go back to applying to graduate schools before tomorrow. I have too much to do and too little time.

Glad exams for all are finished, I hated exams at school and I hate them even more now LOL Maths was never MY strong suit so I don't know who ds2 gets his 99% right in maths from not me!

Time Zones, Apart from New Zealand and a few Pacific Islands we get Christmas first (apart from our southern states that have daylight saving and beat us by 1 hr) So being saturday mid morning now and only 2 sleeps to go, the kids are in count down mode.
Also we will be going away for 1 week to my uncles in Nowra New South Wales http://walkabout.com.au/locations/NSWNowra.shtml it is about 1,200kms (don't know miles) away for us and an overnight stop each way.
There is a huge water park http://www.jamberoo.net/ that the kids like to visit, it's been 4yrs since we visited last (on our trip to the snow, 2002)
also Air Force base, and other things to do. My uncle is55 and never been amrried and spoilt me rotten as a kid as I was the only neice.

Glad exams for all are finished, I hated exams at school and I hate them even more now LOL Maths was never MY strong suit so I don't know who ds2 gets his 99% right in maths from not me!

Kathy, I think that math genes skip a gene or 2 or 3 or 4 or ... LOL My dad was excellant at math and so was my mother. So, I do not know where I do my sick-I-ness for my math! However, I am good an English, grammar, and vocabulary. My paternarl grandmother LOVED to play Scrabble and was so good that nobody wanted to play with her. I credited her for my talent in that area.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holdiday season!

Thanks all for the well wishes! ANd yes DeBora you did give me a smile; Thanks for that too! Ever since DH was ran over in his car by a bus his health has been down hill and the fact he survived that was a miracle! Sometimes when more things creep up it really makes you wonder why, but we try and make the best of it. It is just the waiting..... that gets to us I think. We know we can't do anything about the issues them selves, but all the waiting for this one and that one to tell you what the next step will be is the horrible part! This past time was a three day wait! Oh well... thanks for listening anyway! DeBora, have some fun as soon as you get all your work done!

Bilby, sounds like your family is going to have a wonderful holiday; have a safe trip and we will "talk" to you when you return!

Sweetnell, thanks for the thoughts too and hope you and your entire family have a nice Christmas break!

I was in such a bad mood earlier. My professor, Judge Judifo (make Judge Judy type lol) emailed me and griped me out for not giving him the letters of recommendation info correctly. I asked him how he wanted it. Anyway, he stated that the other students who wanted letters of recommendation havn't been nearly as organized as I have been so he said "nevermind." I want to scream!!!! He has been emailing me at my lab email addy instead of my personal email! So, if you hear that I have killed a certain professor at NMSU, or had my teeth pulled, or paid taxes that I did not owe, then you will know that, "I am feeling much better now!" LOL Being tired makes me feel silly! lol

Kathy, exams have never bothered me when I know what will be covered on them. I had an uncle who spoiled me rotten too! Don't you just love them? Mine never had children. But he was wonderful with my brother and I.

Hope all have a good Christmas! Sounds like everyone will be busy.I cooked all day for DH and me. Baked a low fat ham, macaroni salad, coleslaw, and german potato salad. Tomorrow I'll soak the navy beans for baked beans for Christmas Day. Will put them in the crockpot early; so that is our Christmas menu. STILL have to bake some fat free goodies for DH,but I have tomorrow to do that.

We don't exchange, but I picked up a couple of things for him. Talked to both DS's and they are both having the girls familiies over; DS #1 will be doing that on Christmas Day as he has to work Christmas Eve, and DS 2 will be doing that on Christmas Eve. So they will both be busy and will enjoy themselves. Well better check some more emails so Happy Holidays to All!!

I just thought that hanging will make history. They are swift over there.

During Christmas, my mil lost her wedding ring. Well, a few minutes ago, I took the leftover brisket out of the freezer. When I started taking the foil off of it, her ring fell out! I called her and will be mailing it to her Tuesday or Wednesday morning! We cannot imagine how it got into the brisket, but we are glad that I found it!

Tuesday I have to be in Roswell by 7:15am for my RFT nerve block. It is an hour and a half drive so you can imagine what time we have to leave! DH is taking the GKs back tomorrow.

I hope everyone is having a terrific weekend.

DH and I are back to regular everyday stuff. He has surgery scheduled for January 30 as long as the weather lets us get there! The doctor said a 25% chance it is cancer so we will just have to wait some more; that's the hard part. DH is really down now so I'm hoping getting back into some everyday things will take his mind off it a bit.

Plenty of leftovers here so shouldn't have to do much cooking, maybe just fill ins here and there for a bit.

DS#1 and his live in came up yesteday and spent the day here; we all had a good time. He seems to be feeling better, but I can see he isn't quite back to normal yet. Haven't heard from DS#2 so everything must be going fine for them. Have a good day!

Thanks. I dealt with some staff members that I have never met before. We joked around a bit. They all were shocked that I didn't want a sedative and wanted to know why I didn't do this in the doctor's office. I told them that the earliest they could get me into the office was March! I never do feel sedated when they give me the sedative anyway. Plus, if the hospital gives a patient any medication, he or she has to stay in recovery for 1-2 hours and then he or she cannot leave the hospital under his or her own power! Without the sedative or pain medication, they wheeled me to the recovery room, checked my vitals a couple of times, had me sign a paper, and allowed me to get dress and leave! My DH got the car warmed up while I got dressed and I walked out!!! During the procedure, the doctor wanted to give me pain medication. I asked if he could write me a script for it. He had no problem writing a script for it, but was also going to give me an injection at the hospital. I pleaded with him not to as it would cause me to stay in recovery plus they could give me the anti-nausea meds that make me feel horrible! Since he and I have become friends and he knows that if I was hurting bad enough, I would ask for the injection, he sent me home with a script. We picked the medication up at the pharmacy on the way home. I am recuperating with the narcotic he gave me with my boys on the couch today.

I think he did more of the cervical area than he usually does as the back of my neck is more swollen than normal and it hurts to move my head more than it normally does. However, the pain is nowhere near the intensity of my worst headache and it should be much better by tomorrow!

The biggest problem for today was waiting for the doctor! My appointment was scheduled for 8:20am. I had to be there by 7:15am. The staff was prepped and ready for me when I arrived as I was first in line!! Whoo Hoo. I was in the operating room by 8:10am! They said they called the doctor and he was on his way and would be there in 10 minutes. Okay, I know Pennington and I asked the staff if 10 minutes meant 30 minutes. lol The man, with really warm hands, said that 10 minutes means no more than 15 minutes. I told them that 10 minutes means 40-60 minutes with this doctor. Well, I wish I had made 50 cent bets with everyone for pocket change because the doctor was there 45 minutes later! During the procedure, Pennington said that he was sorry as he was late that he was still is his pjs when they called him. He was told that I was scheduled for 9am. So, the worst part of the procedure was waiting in the cool! They said they had to keep the room cold due to the equipment. I told them that we had the same temperature control in the research lab where I work, and we have to wear coats in the summer! So, there I sat, have nude and hooked up to wires for about an hour--plus the time it took for the procedure, which was about 20 minutes. The reason I mentioned the man with warm hands who assisted the doctor is because when I was shivering prior to the procedure, the sweet man rubbed over my back with those warm hands. It felt like a little heating pad moving around on my cold little back.

I am playing on the computer and will probably stay up a little late with DH. He got up so early this morning to take me to Roswell. He then slept most of the day. So, now he is not able to sleep yet. He is just now making his bedtime bowl of ice cream and whipped cream. lol (Some people drink warm milk before going to bed! lol)

Well, I went on and on. Sorry. I hope everyone has a terrific hump day tomorrow.

But if things work out we may be getting a 2 bedroom house with all the furniture .We not sure if we'll get it but there is a chance we might,it'll just take a while before we know. Dh is back home as there were some problems with the rent and bills.

Do you mean DH or DS? Good luck with the house!

Today was a little rough, but tonight, I am starting to feel better after my procedure. I didn't get any sleep last night because the pillow hurt my head. But the swelling has gone down, so I am sure I will sleep well and will even be able to go to sleep at the same time as DH.

Luckily DH doesn't feel bad physically; right now it is just the mental part of not knowing that id getting us both to some extent. We put up a new gate and some fence closer to our property line on the drive way to keep the problem person from coming up here where he isn't welcomed. (The same person I've had problems with DeBora before that I told you about). That made us both feel better anyway! LOL

So being outside in 50 degree weather in January has been an experience! At least we are getting some things done! But because we are outside the inside things are piling up! LOL Oh well, no little gremlins popping in at night to take care of them ! So I'll have plenty to do yet.

We had breakfast for supper tonight. The "girls" have been laying like it is summer so we are having many more eggs than we usually do this time of year. The dogs and cats are appreciative of it as they are getting more yolks than they normally do this time of year! I'm afraid my strawberry plants are going to spring in to action soon if it doesn't get cold and stay cold.

Everyone have a good evening!

What is a Mummers parade?

01-06-2007, 01:44 PM
Here is some information on the Mummers Parade:

The Philadelphia Mummers Parade is a beloved tradition that traces its roots to before the city was founded. It is the oldest folk parade in America. The parade is held every New Years Day (weather permitting.) The parade is a day long event.

DIVISIONS
There are four divisions to the parade:

The Comic Division
Prancing, dancing clowns in colorful costumes wield their three-tiered parasols as they "strut" to strains of Golden Slippers. Imaginative floats and presentations satirize everyday life. Comic motifs run the gamut from traditional to contemporary.

Fancy Division
Ten categories allow individuals, trios and juveniles, as well as Captains and their pages to dress elaborately and outrageously. Accompanied by brass bands, they compete in various categories. Bigger than life floats and frame suits are interspersed with marchers.

String Band Division
A central theme dominates music, costumes and presentations of the groups of 48 or more musicians. Plumed and bespangled, they mark time to music, highlighted by the banjo and glockenspiel. Ornately garbed captains join the band in precision drills.

Fancy Brigade Division
Imaginative presentations are the hallmark of the Brigades. A theme centered around an elaborately costumed Captain is carried out by 35 or more performers in spectacular costumes as they move in undulating formations.

I am so sorry you are coming down ill. I drink silver when I have been exposed to a virus! So, I rarely get sick. However, if you drink silver too often, you can get a skin disease that makes your skin gray! So, I only suggest it on a temp basis or a little bit at a time. I never get the flu shot.

Audrey reminds me of my self! Maybe that is why we get along so well. I made mid to low Cs in high school. I got married and made straight A's.

DeBora, the Mummers Parade (http://www.mummers.com) is a long Philadelphia tradition. Each neighborhood has its own group that participates in one of the many categories.

My favorites are the string bands. Banjos and brass! It's a lot of fun. Here are some photos (http://philadelphia.about.com/od/2006mummersparadephotos/ig/Polish-American-2006/index.htm) from ONE string band from last year. I didn't get to watch the string bands on TV this year, so I'll have to watch the video I made before I send it to my dad. He's outside the Philly area so doesn't get to see it on TV.

Sweetnell, staying busy...yes! LOL Doing some things in the house that just need to be done like cleaning out an area and organizing and such. It must have sparked something in DH as he is down in his workshop doing the same! We drew out the entire workshop and measured everything and organized it on paper, now he is downstairs staying busy with that; it might take his mind off his helath for awhile..... anything that works!

Have two chicken breast thawing out for supper; not sure what I'll do with them yet, but thought I'd better use something out of the freezer! Jay C had canned soups on sale the other day the ones that are ready to eat and you get two servings out of for $1.00 erach so I bought 20 of them. There are several that only have 1 gram or less fat in them so that makes a nice quick meal if we need a quick one. NOW~~~~ I have to make room in the pantry for them! LOL

Have to take off the Christmas tabl;e cloth and placemats and wash them and put them all away yet so will probably do that as soon as I get that soup off the table.

Glad you aren't feeling too bad nell; take care and see talk to you later! DeBora; hope you are enjoying your time off from school and everyone else have a good day also!

DeBora,
Where do you find silver and what does it do for your body? I have not heard of this before.

It is called colloidal silver and you can buy it online or in a health food store. I make my own as it is very expensive. It is silver that has been brewed in water, so to speak. It only kills viruses, so ignore any claims that it gets rid of headaches, allergies, and so on. As soon as a virus comes into contact with the silver, it dies. This can be seen under the microscope. However, one word of caution, ingesting too much silver can cause a skin disease that causes your skin to turn an ash color and it is permanent. So, I only ingest it whenever I have been exposed to a virus.

Barb, thanks for the explanation. Thanks for sharing the photos. Those have to be some of the most colorful costumes that I have ever seen too!

Cat, you have been to a Mummers Parade too? Are they the same as Barb's?

Nell, I hope everyone in your house gets well soon! It seems that the New Year has brought so many illnesses and injuries this season. I hope the rest of the year gets better.

Well, going to finish checking email.

DeBora, they only have Mummers in Philly. It's a really local thing. The string bands DO march in different parades all year--we usually get 2 or 3 in our local parade for Memorial Day and 4th of July. Yes, the costumes are colorful, and apparently very heavy.

Hope all those of you that aren't feeling well get better soon.

We are home safe and sound but kept hearing on the radio how many car accidents there were on the interstate freeway we were travelling, but we had a good run and only a 1/2(?) hours rain while driving.

A belated happy new year to you all.

Cheers and I hope to catch up on all the posts soon :)

DeBora, now I've never amanaged to be in Philly when they have the Mummers Parade , but have seen several things on it on shows on TV and on the newscast when they have theirs. Would be a real neat thing to be able to be there in person and see it though!

Karen, thank you. I hope your new year has started out well.

Cat, can you believe that I have never even heard of a Mummers Parade? I guess I learn something new everyday.

I am still amazed at how colorful the costumes are.

DeBora, those tiny pictures don't even do it justice. It is absolutely amazing to see. I've never been there in person (this parade lasts more than 8 HOURS) but I bet it's fabulous!

I always videotape the string bands so I can send it to my dad (can't figure out how he got hooked on this, since he's never lived near here  ) and then he gives it back to me and I send it to Pag36 on Family Corner who grew up near here. Maybe you can get her to send it to you when she's done.

DeBora4BobbyL
01-07-2007, 08:20 PM
That sounds good. I will ask her if she minds sending it my way when she is done. I just have never seen such color even in a painting. lol I am sure those costumes would be so welcome if it were cold. lol I bet their make-up was melting off their faces by the end of the day. I cannot imagine an 8 hour parade!

I mentioned what you said to Patti since she posts on an Family Corner game thread that I also post and this is what she said:
DeBora tell Barb I said to go ahead and send to you first okay. Then you can send to me. By then I might be less "Dr appts" and have time to enjoy it etc.

I'm sure you will really enjhoy seeing it; I think it is so much more than a regular parade. Once you get to see it you'll be amazed!

Looks like we are finally going to get some regular weather for this time of year! We are supposee to get 1/4 - 1/2" of snow maybe tomorrow. Guess that means go get our lottery ticket nd some extra milk today! LOL
Sweetnell, hope you and your family are n the road to recovery from the flu! Everyone have a great day!

We'll figure it all out with Patti, DeBora....first my dad gets it. And I don't know when I'll be seeing my parents next!! Last year Patti didn't get the tape until around Easter. When I get it back from my dad, you 2 can duke it out for whose turn is next!

It sure is a sight to see. There is a special dance called the "Mummer Strut" that they all seem to do. The costumes are absolutely amazing. All the clubs are already working on next year's ideas.

I'm just glad the rain held off until after the parade and the football game. It's pouring now, will be all day.

I am in no hurry Barb. I just happened to "see" Patti and couldn't believe it since we had just mentioned her name. She and I don't always post on the same threads.

Cat, have a safe trip in to town.

Karen, didn't you get some rain too? I hope everything is going well in the land of down under. lol

Nell, I hope you and your family get well soon!

My DGD and I made Valentine cupcakes last night. I know it is early for the holiday, but Christmas is over and that one is next as far as available decorations. lol She was quite good at adding eggs and such. I did the blending. I set DGD a little assembly line with little bowls of the various candies and sprinkles. Then, I would ice and she would decorate. As soon as DGS figure out what we were doing, which wasn't too hard since DH had to lick the bowl, he crawled into he eating chair and waiting patiently for a cupcake. lol

Tonight, we are going to grill some brats. I was going to make some chili dogs, but since we are going to the drive-in movie theater, we will not. I will wrap them while they are still warm, pack some chips, and in an ice chest, pack some soft drinks. Does anyone have an suggestions on what would not be too messy (3 and 1 year old) that would go with the hot dogs?

How about pretzels? They aren't sticky or have anything on them that will stick to the fingers nor get all over the ar seats!LOL You could also mix up a snack mix, using M&M's, dry roasted peanuts, marshmallows, malted milk balls and whatever else you want to throw in. Rice Krispie treats would be good. And of course a nice "bowl" of fresh fruit! Have fun; and what are you going to see?

We've had a bit of rain DeBora not enough to fill our water supply but that is a world wide problem, they are considering recycled water. Apparently many countries do this but it still sounds a bit ick LOL.

How did the drive in go, we don't ahve hardly any of them any more, we used to go all the time but my kids have never been as there is not one anywhere near us.

The Mummers parade does sound like one big long wonderful party time parade, I hope one day you will get to visit Barb. The parade must bring back some sort of good memories for your dad.

Holiday is over, I've nearly caught up on all my washing blah! I finally got my christmas decorations down, no time before we left as we leave them till new years day. So my house is in order now, we just go naked due to no washing or clean clothes LOL!

DeBora4BobbyL

I have seen programs on recycled water. I believe they even do that on the Shuttle! Call me picky, but I like mine fresh! I am glad that you got so much done.

When the 18th gets here, I will have to get back on a schedule again.

Hello Bilby! Bet you feel good to have the house back in order again. I rmember when my kid were little and we decorated a lot, seemed a chore whne it came time to take it all down! LOL

I guess you could say our water back in Louisville was recycled. It came from two sources; wells and the Ohio River, then went to the water company for cleaning, then to customers and then back into the Ohio River and the process starts all over again. Since we have our own wells here it gets used once so to say; goes to our septic and then back into the ground where I'm sure we are getting some of it back again. Our well is 563 feet deep though so it goes through a big process to come back up after it seeps down through the earth.

Hope you are enjoying your time off from school DeBora!

Sweetnell, hope you and your family aren't still down withthe flu! Have a good day!

Cat, I hope you are getting to stay home today.

I am pretty angry with DH today. He has this problem of spoiling the GKs and he wouldn't kick them out of our bed last night, an issue that is ongoing with us. So, I have not slept. I am bordering on exhaustion. So, I have put my foot down for tonight--no GKs in the bed! I will be sleeping in my bed tonight.

DeBora, I don;t blame you for that one! Kids don't belong in the bed with anyone but themselves! The next day no one has gotten enopugh rest which you know; maybe you can get a nap in ?

Shouldn't have o go out today except for driving down to the bottom of the drive and picking up the mail!

DeBora4BobbyL
01-09-2007, 12:50 PM
The reason I am angry is because we have had this argument every single time! I don't mind them taking naps in our bed or even watching television as they get ready to go to sleep, but when they go to sleep, they need to be in their own bed! I told him that since he cannot respect my boundaries or me in that I need the bed ready when I get ready for bed, he does not even need to be letting them use the bed for any purpose! Can you tell I am grumpy from the lack of sleep? lol Anyway, I can not take a nap as I have a sleep disorder and won't be able to sleep tonight if I take a nap.

Well, since he didn't sleep well, I am making him deal with the kids. lol I gave them a bath this morning and now he is dealing with them. lol I am way too tired. lol The 3 year old has been around her father's sister who is 6. She is spoiled and makes demands on the adults in her life. I mean, she is awful! When my DGD is around her she trys a few things she picks up. Of course, these things do not work with us, but they can be tiring. lol

We did go to the drive-in last night and we had a blast! I would recommend Charlotte's Web to everyone except ppl who are afraid of spiders! I was a little squirmish a few times, but it was an adorable movie. We all had brat-dogs, chips, apple slices, and a few other things. I allowed the GKs to have soft drinks since it was a special occaision.

01-09-2007, 05:25 PM
Nell, that is why I added the warning. It was a fake, friendly spider, but it still creeped me out. But, I truely have arachnaphobia. lol But, other than my little phobia, it was an outstanding movie! It was great for children and families alike! My DH even cried when Charlotte died! lol

I laid down and rested for about 50 minutes. The GKs were unconscious with 3 minutes! lol I first laid down with them in their bed. I played with their hair and rubbed their backs. Poof! lol Now, DH and the GKs are asleep. I am enjoying the peace and quiet. I am hoping that we will all be in good moods once nap time is over.

I am re-ordering transcripts for 2 colleges and they lost them! I have to send off for my GRE scores for 2 more graduate schools and then fax my signature to one place. Applying to graduate school is as big a headache as I have been told! It is difficult doing this while the kids are here. I do not know how people do with children. lol My printer broke, so I am installing a new one that I got cheap. DH is going to take the kids to see the animals like horses, lambs, and so on. Was unable to find a good use tire rim for ds car because they said it was too new of a model. Was however to get a new tire as he had a blow-out on the front driver side tire monday and the only spare is a donut tire thats why we were looking for a used rim so he can replace a warped rim, but could still use the warp rim for a back-up if need be. Ds is still under the weather but finally broke down yesterday and took some medince so that helps a lot. Mom is out of the hospital so on her way back to recovering I believe.Took Audrey to her young women meeting at church tonight ,one of the girls had a birthday today she turn 15 so they had cake when they were finish with thier actives. At least he can use it as a spare, I've run into that before with things; the Neon we got from, my DS#2 because he blew up the engine in it was like that. We needed a new headlight and I didn' want a brand new one ($250), so asked them to look in a junk yard. Finallyfound one out of state and the reason that was givenon being so hard ot fnd was that the car wasn't old enough to have that many parts in a junk yard! Glad he was able to get it worked out. Men.... was is it they don;t want to take medicine? LOL Glad he finally did! My DH used to be that way too.

DH has already gone to bed and I'm off to get a shower; so if my eyes are still open I'll probably play around on the computer a bit longer. Have a good night! oh, the cats just knocked something big over in one of the closets so off to see about that first! LOL

Good Morning Ladies!Hope everyone got a good nights sleep! Making sure Audrey makes it to the bus stop to catch the bus, she is so not a morning person but I"m not either lol! It was ds's car not dh's. Ds has one rim that he has warp by hitting the curb alot at work because of having to cut close as the driveway at one side is narrow and some people take up more than thier share so you have to cut it close thus hitting the curb.Ds has a problem with medince of any kind because it effects him different then most people so he really stays away from it as much as he can so when he takes some you know he's really sick, but thank gooodness he doesn't get sick often! Have a great day ladies!

He's lucky he doesn't get sick often! I think DH and me are both fighting off a cold. Taking some meds to try and keep it mild and maybe not affect my lungs. The bad part is the medicine makes me so sleepy! And then by night time I've slept so much I;m up late! lol

DH and I are going out today before the rains start; I think we need chicken feed and some other animal supplies.

The rain has been off and on all day today, so that has kept us from flooding yet, the heavy stuff is supposed to start later tonight.

Got a little section of the garage cleaned up, feed bags put away and just stuff that piled up. I plan on making some totes bags out of all the feed bags. I bought a 50 foot roll of webbing i'm going to use for the handles; just haven't started on them yet. I think they will be good for groceries and I'm going to make some for carrying firewood also. At least all the junk that falls off will stay in those instead of so much on the floor! LOL

Nell, I hope things work out. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I hope everyone else is having a wonderful TGIF. I am ready for bedtime. DH allowed the DGD in bed again at 3:30pm, so I was awaken at that time and wasn't able to go to back to sleep for over an hour. Then, DH woke the kids up, by accident from their naps too early. So, they are grumpy. Of course, he is in the doghouse, but he is at work. We are having leftover meatball subs, which the kids LOVED last night and couldn't get enough. I don't usually give them Cokes (Texans call all soft drinks Cokes lol). But, last night and this morning, they ate all their dinner. DGD went back for seconds and thirds! Since they have been eating well, I gave them some "Coke" today.

FedEx lost my textbook! So, I had to order another one and have them send it to my PO box in La Mesilla instead of here. I can only pray that it is there when I arrive on Tuesday. School starts Thursday! I have to file a claim with FedEx to get my money back on the first one. Grrrr!

Hope the weather doesn't get oo bad, we are usually well on the way to being iced or snowed in this time of yesr here, so weather has been really wild. We are still having all those rains, but so far has not been as much at one time so no flooding...yet. Just hhoping this "good" weather sticks around long enough for me to take DH north for his surgery on the 30th and then we'll be inside a lot anyway letting him recover. Of course i'll be busy since he won't be able to help out with the farm animals or anything else for about a month! And all you ladies I;m sure know how men do with pain! LOL

I have a new goal for myself... at least one thing will get done everyday in the house; those things that just kind of pile up usually! I find myself sittting and working on a cross stitch project, quilting project or something else much too long sometimes amd then not getting something done that should be. Will see how that goes! Only bad thing is the snow is supposed to do the ground water levels better than all the rain as a lot of it just runs off, so we may be paying for no snow yet this summer.
