First son at 21 , second at 25; had lots of trouble getting him here so we decided along with the doctors that there wouldn't be any more after all we went through that time. Would have been nice to try for a daughter, but a third would have probably been a boy too! LOL I have an aunt that had 6 girls trying for a boy!

First son had a little problem while carrying him but none when I had him,but loss him at 4 1/2 months to sids.Took three year before I had second son no problem at all with him once I got pregrant. Then nine years later we were blessed with being able to adopt Audrey. I had decided that if 2nd son was all we were meant to have then that was alright then we were asked if we wanted to take dd. I'm one that had problems getting pregrant for so reason but once I did I had no trouble having them.

I was 25 when I got married and 26 when Big DS was born; 30 when DD was born and almost 37 when Luke was born. The wide spacing was not by choice--we'd have had them closer together if we had been able to--but it turns out to have been a wonderful experience for our family to have them spread apart. I think my Big Kids have profited a lot from having one around who is so much younger. (And I think they will make good parents some day!)

I'm ready to relax tonight. After church and lunch I went to the supermarket to get some of Big DS's favorite breakfast for his birthday tomorrow--Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls. I did some of the weekly shopping since I was by myself, but Sunday at the supermarket is INSANE. Then I went to pick up hoagies for me and DS for our dinner tonight.

DH has taken DD and Luke up north to his parents' house. DD will sleep over at BIL's with her cousins--they all can't wait. (Deprogramming of DD to follow, upon her arrival home tomorrow  ) DH and Luke will stay at my ILs. DS is studying for exams, puttering on his computer, cleaning his desk a little, and eating me out of house & home, LOL! I will serve DS his birthday breakfast, and tomorrow night we'll have his birthday dinner and cake.

DH mentioned today that he was wondering now that I am hitting 2 grocery stores in a week (one for produce mostly) how our food bill compares to last year. I told him that we can't compare since the 2 Big Kids have both hit a growth spurt and I am buying a LOT more food!

I'm sure it is serious business with the "deprogramming" of DD, but it did give me a chuckle" as I remember my teen years! LOL Good Luck!

01-14-2007, 07:16 PM
Barb, I totally understand the deprogramming part.

I hope everyone is staying warm. I was supposed to go get my DD today as she has a doctor's appointment with my specialist. However, she has the flu and will try to reschedule. Then, within an hour of talking to her, I started getting nauseous with an extremely bad headache. I have been vomiting a bit. Poor DH had to get up (he works the graveyard shift this week) to help me with the kids. I am able to sit up now and I made the kids get up from their naps rather than let them sleep until they felt like getting up. I figure they'll be able to go to bed at a decent time tonight. I am going to heat them up some ramen noodles and pinto beans since they love them. It will be an easy meal for me. DGD was upset that she couldn't see her momma. She has been here a week, so she is pretty homesick. I told her that Papa will take her home on Tuesday, after 2 more nite-nites. This is throwing me off as I should be packing to go back to Las Cruces. So, I may be late going back, but as long as I am back before Thursday afternoon, I am okay. I just hope I don't forget something.

I am going to try to catch up on posts while the kids are playing happily and I can sit up. lol

Cat lover--she's not even a teen yet--it will get WORSE!!!!

But she'll come back here doing all the things that her cousins do, & get away with, that drive me up a wall.

DeBora, I hope you feel better QUICK!!

DeBora4BobbyL

Thanks for the well wishes. Both GKs have been so good too! If the GKs don't get sick from me, their mommy is in terrible shape. I hope she is well by the time they come back home.

Barb, you will either need a lot of Valium or a lot of people to talk to when she becomes a teen. lol My DD was such an angel, until she became a teen.

Stick to your values Barbszy! Believe it or not she'll thank you one day! My parents never said a word to me about anything EVER... and it is true; sometimes kids want you to speak up!

My youngest DS that is now 27 tells me all the time about how he now understands all that stuff we tried to tell him as a kid... and I'm still amazed to hear that coming out of his mouth! LOL

Sweetnell; DH is doing a little better, but I think it is more he is staying busy so he isn't thinnking about it as much...maybe!

I pulled my back today, not bad, but I can feel it when I walk. Taking it easy as I can; it will get better. Might try the heating pad after a shower. Was getting Snowflake from her pen to put her in a cage in the garage (she is one of the 3 cats and 1 dog that go to the vet tomorrow), so it will be easier in the morning. We have about an hour drive and have to be there at 9. Anyway the other cat jumped in the cat carrier and here I was holding Snowflake(which she doesn't want to be held) so I had to let her go and chase him out and somehow in all that I pulled my back. I'm sure it was a sight! LOL

So supper tonight will be some baked sweeet potatoes and steamed veggies. I had some ground turkey out I found lurking inthe freezer so I'll cook it up and put it away till tomorrow.

DeBora hope you are feeling better, Sweetenell, thanks for asking about DH, and Barbszy good luck ! Have a good evening all!

We have to take Poncho to the Vet tomorrow for an eye infection. I will make sure we ask the Vet what he suggests. I know for anxiety and such, they suggest benedryl.

DeBora4BobbyL
01-15-2007, 10:04 PM
I have been reading about car sickness in animals. It stated that it was usually more due to stress than inner ear problems, which fits with what our vet in Cruces said to due for Poncho when we travel. He never vomits or anything. But, he does shake, cower, and hide when he sees me packing. It is like pulling teeth to get him in the car. That is due to an accident on some black ice in 2005 in the mountains. He has been afraid ever since. The vet told me to give him Benedryl and he would feel calm and should even go to sleep for the rest of the trip. I think I will have DH pick some up on the way home from work. Then, see what this vet says about the puppy.

We were very lucky as the ice seems to gone around our area, so mainly all we got was rain and cold air. We have been able to stay warm as we use the woodstove as our main heat even though we have central heat burning wood keeps the eletric bill down in the winter months. Also if the lights goes out we still have heat and we can cook on the woodstove.Well need to go to bed soon so I can make sure Audrey gets up and dress in time to catch the bus. Good night all!

Just checking in real quick; still dark outside, but we have to gather the animals in about 15 minutes and get ready to go to the vet. Hoping the roads aren't icey! All that rain we have had and now it's 26 degrees outside; hopefully the road crews have been out this morning and cindered the hills. We usually don't go out when it is like this, but I really want to try and get this vet visit done and then I think the next round of animals don't have to go till March.

And of course will be hoping for good weather on the 30th for DH's procedure as we have to go further north even for that one. Better get going and getting the indoor cats rounded up and then off to get Buzz the Lab from her pen.

Slept in the La-Z-Boy last night and did pretty good with my back, used Ben Gay already this morning and took two aspirin; I still feel it some, but it will just take some time. Have a good day!

Thanks, the trip went well and we got back; just a dusting of snow on the roads ann a few ice patches, but no problems.

Gave two of the dogs some rawhide; big mistake and I know better, but they have done well lately so... I gave them each a piece. Well ...dogfight! These are the two charpai/beagles. So after I got them apart; no hose out right now I found several puncture wounds on each. One is ready to make up the other ot yet. So one is in the pen and the ther in a cage in the garage; will put them back together later. Life with animals!

Cold outside today 26 degrees now. Nice warm fire going in the woodstove.

Going to try and make a trip to Louisville tomorrow, need to take DS#1 his BD card for February 6 and drop off some other stuff for DS#2. Want to see them also as the weather will probably get bad now and we won't get to see them for several weeks if not more than a month.

Going to check some posts and some emails so have a good day!

Well, I gave Bonte some Benedryl. He usually vomits 3-4 times before we are even 30 minutes into the trip. He didn't vomit until the half way point. Plus, he only vomited once. He was dead asleep when I was driving the winding road around the mountain. I think he was just carsick instead of stressed as when he vomited, he went right back to sleep and he didn't do all the crying and howling that he usually does.

Nell, Poncho's eye cleared up, so we decided to wait on the Vet since DH was in a hurry today as it will be 1am as it is when he gets in. Poncho always stresses during trips, but he never gets sick.

As for the SS on FC, yes I am in it and you will LOVE it. Email me and I will give you some suggestions if you decide to join. You will learn so much about other women. I started an email account with a ficticious handle that wouldn't give me away. You can do that either on hotmail or yahoo for free. If you know how to do ecards, which I know you do, you just send the ecards out on your SS account. Anyway, email me and I will tell you some more so that it doesn't give me away. lol It is not hard and you will be given the name of your SS and her likes and interests.

Hello all! Have had a busy couple days! We ended yesterday having to take Greybaby(one of the newer kittens) back to the vet, she hurt her paw really bad and was crying and limping all night. We spent most of the night up holding her to keep her quiet. She has bruised her foot really bad so the vet gave her a pain shot and some pills for me to give her for a couple of days. It is slowly getting better. Pets are just like having kids! LOL

Today we took all our receycle stuff to the recycle place and geting ready for maybe 2-3" of snow Sunday. Which means our drive will probably be impassable; just hope this all goes away the week of DH scheduled surgery.

Hope you all are having a good evening and doing okay!

Cat, I hope your baby gets to feeling better.

I had my first day as an intern at the mental health facility. It was raining to I put my coffee on the top of my car to reach in to get my umbrella. I had spent all morning curling my hair and I didn't want the rain to ruin the curls. The umbrella bumped the coffee and spilled coffee all in my hair and on my beautiful yellow autographed Cheerios coat! Since the cup was full, it soaked through the coat to my white tee! Oh man. Oh yeah, my cup was broken too! Oh well. We were supposed to get an ice storm today so I tried to get everything done yesterday. I have to go get a pair of black pants as it is required as part of being an intern.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

It is cold here, but no snow and very little ice, except in patches. The media built up this big winter storm that was supposed to hit last Thursday or Friday. They told people to go get water, batteries, etc... I had to pick up a prescription, so it was a madhouse at the store with everyone buying the things that the media said to buy. Then, the days came and went without the inches and inches of snow that was suppposed to come. The media now states that they don't know why we didn't get the storm. They actually sounded disappointed! I was glad that we didn't since I have to drive to Anthony, NM, which is next to Anthony, TX, a little over 20 miles away three days a week! I am trying to talk myself into going to the store and buy those pants and get that out of the way.

Well we hit the road again today! The fuse on the wine cellar blew! One thing after another around here the past few days! Grey Baby is starting to feel better, but I'm sure the pain pills are helping her alot! LOL

We are supposed to get snow, ice and all also, but so far nothing; yeah!! I missed the 6 pm news so will have to wait till 11 and see what they are saying now.

One of my nieces called from Texas and wants some pics of her grandparents, us and etc. She's making a family album for herself. She called her grandmother and she won't send her any. (another long story and that sort of explains why I'm estranged from her!) So I told her I'd go through what I have left and see what I can send her. I don't have much as when we moved I mailed everyone back most of their pics and only kept the lastest ones if I even kept those.

Working on my curtain panels for the patio door in our bedroom that goes to the deck. When we moved here I wasn't doing any curtains on the windows because no one near enough to see anything even with binoculars. But the even though the windows are all tinted; when I have the screen across the door in the summer the setting sun is awful bright so decided to put some up there and making actual button tabs so they can come down easy when we don't need them. So I'll be busy with those in between all the other stuff! have a good evening!~

I am being lazy this weekend as it is the last weekend that I will be able to. I went and got some black pants for my intern job in Anthony, NM. Other than that, I am doing nothing. It is beginning to snow a bit here and the kids are excited!!! We're expecting about an inch of mostly ice. Bad for driving, so good for a possible day off for Big DS (whose school pulls kids from a 40-mile radius) and delayed opening for DD. It's midterms week for DS so he'd like the extra study day for sure.

I came home from my overnight at my parents' house (with my younger 2 kids and all 3 of my sister's) with my sanity (mostly) intact (well, as good as it gets) :D and 3 quarts of homemade vegetable-beef-barley soup from my TERRIFIC great-aunt!!! Guess what's for lunch tomorrow!

Well, we got snow this morning! It was very windy when I left to go to work this morning. I have to travel 20 miles to the mental health clinic. About 3 miles out, it started snowing hard! Within another 3 miles, the roads were icy. Then, I saw one automobile upside down on the median. (It it Interstate 10 all the way and it is halfway between Cruces and El Paso) Then, I saw another on its side in the median. Then, one by one, more and more cars were wrecking into the median. I was so nervous! There was 2 cars together. One of the drivers of those cars called the radio station that I was listening to called in and said that he breaked to avoid the other car when it lost control and ended up losing control himself. Oh boy! I was SO glad to get home! I have a class tonight, so I hope it doesn't snow anymore. We desert people just do not know how to drive in ice. I will watch the university Web site in case they close school since there is supposed to be more snow later.

Cat, I hope you rest up from your trips and I hope you feel better.

Hope that bug goes away soon Cat, I hate bugs!

DeBora, glad you didn't come to grief in the snow, I don't hink I'd like to drive in those conditions.

Nell, I should take a leaf out of your book and clean my fridge it's a bit of a nightmare

A pass through the mountains in which we traveled when going to and from down south is now closed due to bush fires, they just showed pics on tv. I'm glad our trip was not 2 weeks later as cars are stopped for miles and miles, not fun I'm guessing.

Neel, oh darn, and I was going to send you some snow! We are supposed to see more the rest of the week. I am hoping they are wrong as nobody knows how to drive in it.

Kathy, the mountains always have snow around here. I am terrified to drive in the mountains in the winter time.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Sorry DeBora but you'll just have to find someone else to send the snow to,of course Audrey woulld like it because then they would cancel school as the bus routes are long and alotof the have bridges that get slick easliy. I am with Audrey. I don't think I would mind the snow if I didn't have to get out in it and could stay home. lol If it would snow on a school day and I didn't have to go to work on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, then I would say, "Let it snow!" lol

Cat, I hope you get to feeling better.

Thanks everyone; the bug turned out to be some 24 hour thing I guess; feeling much better! Dh slept yesterday till 10, so I too hope he isn't catching it.

Sweetnell, your are welcome to come here and clean out my fridge! LOL I need to do the same thing but have put it off way to long; part of the problem is I have two to do, yuck! LOL

1 (14 1/2 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 tbsp worcestershire sauce

In large pan cook beef and onion till beef is done and stir frequently. Drain. Add all remaining ingredients and mix well. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 20 minutes or till vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally. Makes 6 (1 1/2 cup) servings

1 large onion, sliced
1 tbsp olive oil
1/4 tsp pepper
4 medium potatoes, sliced
1 envelope dry onion soup mix

Brown the meat and onion sliced in hot oil. Stir in the remaining ingredients; cover and simmer till potatoes aretender, about 30 minutes. Add the peas during the last few minutes(just long enough to heat them). Serves 4

Unstuffed Pepper Soup

In a Dutch oven cook beef and onion, and green peppers till meat is no lonmger pink and drain. Stir in broth, soup, tomatoes and mushrooms. Bring to a boil and reduce heat, cover and simmer at least 30 minutes stirring occasionally. Add rice and heat through. 10 servings

I know I have more these are some of the favorites. So if you want more and want something particualr just let me know!

DeBora, hope the weather has let up some for you. I hate to drive in the stuff too!

Nice to see you here Bilby!

Cat thanks for the recipes they will come in handy as we eat a lot of hambuger meat. Its so hard to come up with something all of us will eat at the same time. The stuffed pepper soup sounds real good as I like stuff peppers so this is right up my ally. Well need to get down sometime today and scrubb the floors down good lol. getting things done in phases are can you tell lol.

If you close your eyes when you eat the stuffed pepper soup you'd swear you were eating stufed peppers; it's REALLY good!

I have a recipe book that I was given as a wedding present way back when; it is 365 ways to cook hamburger. So I have lots of recipes for hamburger meat that I've used over the years. I think maybe later today I'll start a place for recipes using hamburger meat so they will all be in one place( at least those will) LOL. I'll email you the link later once I start it.

Thanks Cat! That would be really nice and helpful.I do buy other kinds of meat but hambuger is the main one that we use alot.I also keep spam as a back-up for those days close to payday lol.We always try to have can tuna around also, Audrey likes to eat the tuna pretty much right out of the can and she's not a big meat eater.

DeBora4BobbyL

Nell, I am not a Spam fan, but I LOVE spam salad. You can put pretty much anything that you want on it too. I put mayo, sweet pickle relish, and other stuff. I use a fork to grate the spam since it makes it the right consistancy and it is so good on sandwiches.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I am glad you are feeling better Cat.

DH was supposed to take DD and GKs back home today, but they got snowed in. Since he has to work through Friday, he will have to take her back then. Hopefully, the roads between Carlsbad and Midland, TX will be clear by then.

Well, I need to finish checking posts as I have to take a shower and get ready to do errands and go to class.

I have to brag on my bargain I got yesterday!

While Luke was at preschool I went over to Borders because several people had recommended the Taste of Home Simple & Delicious magazine. It has a lot of crockpot recipes in it, this issue. I had a Borders Rewards email that I had over $5 in savings off the price of ANY item. Had to use it before the 31st of January.

When I got to the store I found the magazine, and then saw that all calendars were on sale for $4!! I found this really cool DayRunner planner for moms, reguarly $23, in a very nice canvas & vinyl binder--marked down to $4!! With my coupon, the planner and the magazine together cost me under $3 :D

I pull them apart and put each page in plastic sleeves and store them in a 3" binder; needless to say I have several binders now~!

Have to ask, how did you get the little smiley? He isn't one of our options and I haven't had any luck bringing any from another place.

Hope school is going okay DeBora and no bad weather your way.

Barbszy, do you just copy and paste the smileys here orsomething else? I think awhile back it was asked somewhere and by someone if we could get smileys here at MM. Do you know whatever happened with maybe getting some here? I think it would make lots of people more apt to take part here by making it more fun. Those ones you just used are really cute and some so different than I'm used to seeing in places.

We have cold here today; 29 degrees out right now and the wind is blowing horrible! I hung out a load of clothes, but instead of taking them down to the clothesline I used my drying rack and put them on the deck. Hello all! Went to my mom's this morning a little after 10 & stay til almost one. Then I dropped Audrey off at the skating rink then I went to the dollar store & Fred's department store for awhile so she would have time to skate. I went back to the skating rink about four ,when I got there she was ready to go as her skates had rub blisters on her feet as they have not been broken in good. She has only worn them about two or three times before today as she got to busy to go skating ,then they closed the rink down. They have just reopen it up.Hopefully she'll get to go more often as she loves to skate and there isn't a whole lot of things to do here. Then we went to Wal-Mart to put up some things. Now we are resting.Dh cut down a big tree today so he had work on it alot today so he already in bed. Hope everyone has a good night!

Nell is that a roller skating or ice skating rink for Audrey? I don't know of any ice skating rinks here abouts, I think there may be one on the north side of Brisbane, and all the rollerblading ones are closing down, the properties are worth to much and houses go there.

Like Barbzzy
I have Mozzilla and Firefox, these work great for me and Microsoft.

The kids stayed at g'ma dn g'pas last night while we went out to dinner at a fancy restaurant in Brisbane for my g/f 40th birthday.
Food was good but lacking reasonable portions, you know a lot of money for a little food, just as well it was nice food and dessert was w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l.

We have took her a few times to the mall as that is where the ice skating rink is but we haven't been in a couple of years now. She's been roller skating since she was 14 months old.We put skates on her and she just took off didn't want no help from mom lol. She is quite good at it but just hadn't has had the time to go.It is cheaper if you own your skates plus you don't know how good the skate are that the rink owns as they are getting old. well getting ready for church so will talk with all later. I used to love roller skating as a kid! Couldn't imagine myself up on them now though! LOL Never been ice skating and at this point don't plan on every trying! LOL Glad Audrey had a nice time going, and she'll get those skates broken in!

Really cold here today. 19 degrees out and very windy. Had big snow flurries earlier and we have a very light dusting of snow on the ground now. Just hope it stays snow free for a couple days! Tomorrow I have to go file a new deed; as we had our land surveyed last spring and we had a little bit more land than we thought so had a new deed written and all. Then Tuesday is DH's procedure and back home. Then it can snow all it wants this week. Even if things come back not okay I don't think they will reschedule something immediately.

Poor chickens seem cold at least to me, but they are surviving and even still laying so they must not be as bad off as I think they are! LOL

Cat if we had lived closer to a town that had a ice skating rink Audrey would have been more than likely been real good at it as the first time we went to the mall and let her ice skate she had never been on ice skates but it didn't take long for her to get the hang of it. She was around eight or nine year old when she started skating backwards on regular skates ,she saw other people skating backwards and decided she could do it to so she just started skating backwards. She can do about any thing she wants to when she puts her mind to it lol.Now if she could do that with her school grades we have it made. It sounds like everyone is having a busy week. DH will be leaving soon to go back to Carlsbad. I has some readying to do in a bit for my classes.

We figured out what the engine light was about on my car. One of the spark plugs' wires are in a bind and every once in awhile, it works loose. DH fixed the wire for me. However, the engine light wouldn't go off. We didn't know if there was another problem or if it was just that the light forgot to turn itself off. I had to go online to figure out how to turn it off. It said to take it off the battery. If there is nothing wrong, the light will reset itself. It did the trick. The car is running fine.

I hope everyone has a great week.

Has anyone seen the show with Alton Brown called, "Feasting on Asphault?" I watched a few of them tonight. Alton Brown rides around with a crew around the country demonstrating places off the beaten path for travelers to try, ways to cook food when you are on the road, and so on. Anyway, tonight he wrecked his motorcycle while driving on gravel and they caught it on tape. He evidently broke his shoulder. They also had a cool epidode where he went into the RV and cooked with an older couple. The guy teased Alton about his coffee. He said he brought a pound of coffee and probably used a pound of it on that one cup. lol Anyway, it was an interesting new cooking show.

I hope everyone has a terrific week!

Kathy, send some of that warm whether my way.

I have been so very busy! I have an exam on the 12th and another one on the 20th. So, I am a bit stressed. I also will turn in a paper today.

My DH was doing a little work before he left Sunday when I heard he ask me to come outside. (His voice said that it was something he didn't want to be the one to say no to. lol) I went out and there was my neighbor. She asked me for my password to get on the Internet! I told her that I did NOT give that out. I stated that if they did any illegal activity, it would be traced back to me. I gave her the phone number to the place that she would also get wireless DSL Internet and use her wireless card. I was surprised that somebody would be so bold just to come out and ask somebody for their password like that. I don't think she realizes that if she was to use my Internet, it would slow my Internet up and it would take me forever to do what I want. Go figure.

Well, I hope everyone is doing well. I have so many things to do before my class this afternoon, including printing out a paper and figuring out when the professor wants me to turn it in. It is for my field experience class and I don't ever see her.

Glad your DH thought about it quick! If it would have been my DH he might have given it out if he could remember it! LOL

DH doesn't know the password and he doesn't know how to get it. lol So, if I hadn't been home, he would have told the lady to talk to me as I am the word who knows all about that stuff. lol

Cat, I hope your DH gets to feeling better soon. I hope the results are good.

I hope everyone else is doing well today! I just got home from work. I need to study for my exam that is a week from Tuesday.

We actually have 28 degrees right now and is supposed to go to 25 for the night. Not as bad as it has been.

Have to go fix some supper and get a shower. Want to put on my PJ's early and relax tonight! Yeah right, LOL!

Cute tag! I filled our wood rack in the mud room too! We put two on the porch and I have a small one in the mud room and then a little bitty one next to the wood stove. Out in the woods I have 25 racks and behind the house in the woods I keep 5 full racks. Those are for when we have sleet, snow or anything else and it is too nasty to go drag the wood in. Each rack except the one by the stove and the one in the mudroom hold 1 week's worth of firewood. Seems like a lot of firewood , but that is our only heat~ no furance nor AC. Makes for a great electric bill. LOL Some good excercise carrying all that wood not even counting cutting and splitting it! LOL Who needs a health club? LOL Stay warm sweetnell!

I wish the cold would go away! I live in the desert for a reason. lol

Just so everyone knows, a NASCAR, Rousch racing hauler crashed into an RV at a border patrol checkpoint in El Paso this morning. The RV then crashed into an 18 wheeler. The driver for the race car hauler (the #6 Nextel Cup driver, David Ragan, and previously Mark Martin) is listed in serious condition. So, please pray for the driver. Here is the link to the story (http://www.kvia.com/Global/story.asp?S=6017576) from my local news station.

I hope everyone is staying warm. We bought a new electrical heater so I can keep warm when I am awake without using too much propane.

I hope all are doing well.

I feel for Audrey out in that cold! I was out there about 1 1/2 hours doing all the animals this morning as DH can't do any of the lifting yet and can't chance one of he dogs jumping up on him. I'm reallky dreading going back out for the afternoon round! LOL Also need to get the mail and trying to wait so I can get it; if I go down too early she not have been here yet and then again we may not get any mail because of the snow. It doesn't take much to make these rural roads bad. Stay warm sweetnell and throw a couple extra logs in! I'm going to do that before I go out so it will be roaring when I come back in! Have a good day all!

Dh & kids have gone to town toget bugers from Buger King,I just didn't feellike getting out again as dh & I went to town early. It suppose to be colder in the morning so Audery's school could be cancelled or delayed in starting won't know for sure til morning.Going get my jammies on and just hang out here where it is warm lol.

Since you all are getting snow and cold weather, that means that things will start to warm up here. It is cold here too.

DH is on his way here and should be here in about 3 1/2 hours.

I took Poncho to the Vet. His eye does have some scar tissue on it, so it appears that maybe Bonte did scratch it. I have some special cream to put on it. Poncho is also having trouble breathing and his tongue turned blue because of his obesity. So, we are going to have to figure a way to feed him smaller portions of senior food and feed Bonte larger portions of the puppy food without Poncho seeing it and feeling like we love him more. I sure don't want to lose another dog right now.

OK, I have to ask, since our winter has been unnaturally mild and DeBora's has been weirdly cold & snowy!!!

Here in the Northeast we are hearing a lot about Global Warming (my DH is a meteorologist and he thinks it's a lot of garbage http://www.bootyroast.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rant.gif ) but anyway....is it as big a topic in the areas where winter is either "normal" (I'm thinking about Colorado for example) or "more cold and severe than normal" ??

Just curious! LOL!

cat lover
02-02-2007, 02:51 PM
HMMM, I'm not real sure about the global warming thing either way, but our weather here has defintely changed for some reason! Here we are in Febraury and just now getting our real winter weather! This coming week it is supposed to be the coldest we've had in two years both day and night. High maybe near 20's and single digits at night. BRRR; will be fun doing all the outside animals! And of course that means Buzz the lab will be staying in the garage, she's the only one that is by herself even though she as well as the others all have insulated houses I feel for her when she starts holling at midnight and go put her in the garage. The garage doesn't go below around 55 degrees usually so she still won't get used to heat, but at least it's better. She must really like the closeness to use because she is much better behaved, doesn't make any mess and waits till the morning to go out. But I keep telling her she's an OUTSIDE dog, I'm not having dogs inside! My 6indoor cats wouldn't either! LOL And then All the others would want in to, not 12 cats and dogs inside, no way! LOL

Hope Poncho gets to feeling better DeBora. If you figure out the feeding method I'd like to hear about it. All our cats eat the same food, and all are within normal weight except one, he's always been big, but he weighs 25 pounds. They all get feed once in the morning and once at night. I don't put down 6 cats worth of food either, and it has been half healthy weight management and half regular so I don't know what his problem is. But being cats it is impossible to put food where they couldnt all get to it. I stick to dry food ex ept once in awhile they will get 1 can to share. And I do the same thing who ever gets it it's theirs and the others wait till the next meal.

Sweetnell, the tag of Audrey is exactly what I feel like doing; relaxing on the bed! I sat in the La-Z-Boy earlier and fell asleep for about an hour; woke up and had 3 of the 6 cats sleeping on me!

Have a good day all!

DeBora4BobbyL
02-02-2007, 03:38 PM
Barb, I agree that the global warming is a bunch of...well...you know. lol My DH is a meteorology afficianado. Those neighbors that wanted my password are from Michigan and they both asked me if it was always this cold. I told them that they must have brought it with them because I have never seen it this cold for this long. We might have an occaisional cold snap for a day or two but that is about it. It is actually warm here today. I can not believe that we are turning the AC on today! It is like a normal winter here today. lol

I started trying to brush Bonte's teeth today. He is such a BABY! It took both my DH and I holding him down and we still couldn't get the job done. lol Of course, Poncho knew what I was doing and ran and hid. lol Poncho on the other hand, although he hates having his eye medicated, just sits there and takes it for the few seconds that it takes to get his eye doctored.

Cat, my DH said that since he comes to visit me this past year and isn't there to give the girls (cats) their morning treat of canned food, they have lost weight as they only have dry food during those times. Our pets are so spoiled. lol

I hope all are doing well.

sweetnell3
02-02-2007, 05:32 PM
The weather has just been strange all around but golal warming I don't think so.Debora yes all of our pets are spoiled! The dog has been getting extra food can & dry but he's been where he won't eat the dry. The cats know that the can food is first come first sevre then it just the dry that left.Dh has been let the dog run free at night because our shed door has been open a few time, the dog will sleep right at the front door.I want to tell you early dh & I went to town and right on the side of the highway we seen a deer eating grass then a little farer up I saw a possum.

DeBora4BobbyL
02-02-2007, 07:40 PM
It does sound like we all spoil our pets.

Nell, it has been years since I have seen a possum. The one that I saw was in a tree at my in-laws' house.

It is just now getting cool enough to not need the AC and soon we'll probably need to turn on the electric heater.

I hope everyone is ready for the weekend!

We have had possums, racoons & skunks come up to the porch to eat when I fed the cats outside so I had to start to fed them inside. Don' tknow about your winter but our summer heat/humidity was late in coming and now it's making up for lost heat and giving us extra, it's darn hot!
We are wondering if we are going to have a longer summer or shorter summer and a much colder winter, our weather is whacky also.

cat lover
02-05-2007, 12:54 PM
Sweetnell, sounds like you live in an area close to what we have here; almost any type of wild animal we have. I can't tell you how many raccoons I have had to trap and relocate because they want to come inside! Possuums come after the chickens too, but I've only had to "discourage" one of them. Foxes don't stay around when we are out there and the coyotes are probably the worst. They are getting used to me I guess in the cold weather and figure their food supply is more important than me chasing them with the gun; they don't run anymore till I shoot! Most of the other animals aren't a problem except the wildcats(not the doemestic kind; like a small mountain loin), but they tend to stay back in the woods so far. One person recently shot one around here and THEN found out it had a tracking collar on and so he was fined big time!

DeBora good luck on your tests!

Bilby, shame we can't transfer a little of your heat with some of our cold! LOL We have 5 degrees right now and with the wind I'm not sure what it is. Snow coming in tonight 3- 5 inches they are saying possible; yuck! We have had to bring in one of the dogs that is by herself at night and put her in the garage as she just holls if wee don;t; sure it is because she's cold. So that is another reason I;m looking forward to some "normal" winter weather. She is getting a new insulated dog house so we don't have to bring her in next winter!

Have a good day all!

I just got an email from my teacher about the exam on Thursday. He stated that he is changing up the exam, yet again as some students have told him that they don't have textbooks as the bookstore ran out of them. I have already studied the textbook for this exam. I wish he would either stick to his plan and tell the students that they should have spoken up sooner or go back to the old schedule for an exam on the 20th like he planned originally. Argh! Well, I'd better catch up on emails and get back to studying.

Hello Ladies! DeBora good luck with your test I'm cheering you on plus a prayer for you won't hurt either lol.Cat we do have just enough woods close by that we do have some wildlife not a lot but enough.Friday & Saturday we saw a deer on the side of the highway not sure if it was the same one or a different one it was pretty to see though. In Our paper last week a bus driver took a picture of a bobcat in a tree some where in town, this was like 6 am so she was just starting her route. I had a friend when I work at Wal-Mart tell me she had seen deer in the middle of the street uptown when she was going home late one night. Cat I'll take a little of that snow as I would to have some snow ice cream.Hope all is having a great day!

Sweetnell,I wIsh I could send you some of the snow. We have been really lucky with it so far though. Neither time this week did we get what the weather people were calling for; just COLD temps but not much snow.

I haven't had snow ice cream for quite awhile myself, that would be a nice treat! When I worked at a day care when I was a newly wed we used to make it with the kids every winter.

I would appreciate the prayers. I haven't had a chance to study for the extremely difficult exam that I have in psychology and the law that will cover 5 chapters on Monday. I will definately need prayers.

Nell, that is cool with the deer and bobcat.

My in-laws emailed me and said they are coming to Cruces tomorrow and want to take me out to eat. They are also planning on calling DHs cousin who lives here too. I have a meeting in the morning, exam at 2:30pm, a meeting at 4pm, and another meeting at 5pm. I am already tired thinking about it. lol I need to catch up on emails and get back to studying. I start conducting groups at the mental health clinic on Friday. So, I have to make "lesson plans" for that since it could be audited by the state. Plus, I have staff meeting there on Friday. I hate having to go down and let her out especially at night! She does well, but like I told a friend; she's still a dog! LOL

Have to make a run to Kapser today for some more material. The curtains I bought and am having to remake turned out not to be square so I need about 1 more yard of the material; hope they still have some!

Of course NOW the roosters are all crowing so thought I'd get on the computer and listen to the am news and maybe get sleepy again.

We need to buy her some hiking boots so she can get them broke in as the youth are going to hike like back in the old days 7 miles a day for 3 days with wagons &handcarts in June .They will also cook on the trail it should be fun.Hope you have a great day!

Oh wow, Audrey's hike sounds like fun, wish I could go! That is something I never got to do except I did do the Appalachian Trail years ago. We only did 70 miles of it, but it was fun! We did 10 miles per day. Yeah be real sure she gets those boots worn in good!

Nell, have fun making brownies. I hope Audrey enjoys herself.

Cat, have a safe trip next week.

I don't have time to relax yet. I have a major exam in psychology and the law with legal and psychological terms. I am only just now studying since I have been working so hard to keep up with the never ending changes on the other exam. I had a meeting with my professor today. It went well and he FINALLY remembered. lol I have to set up 12 more experiments for the first experiment. Also, I have to get with this other student who works in the lab about his schedule so that we don't overlap. However, the professor added that he is never there so not to worry about it. He said that any of us can go to the brain lab in Albuquerque to help study brains doing fMRIs. I think I will pass since this is my last semester and I am just plain tired. lol

BTW, thanks for the ecards Nell. I haven't had time to respond due to studying, meetings, and I need to do laundry tomorrow, but I do appreciate them.

Well, I need to catch up on emails and eat so I can get back to studying.

Looks like everyone must have had a busy weekend! Glad to see you joined us here Barb.

DeBora hoping all went well with your test and with your professor!

Sweetnell, thanks for keeping me and DH in your thoughts and all the ecards! We go Thursday for these results and that will determine if we go ahead and do something or have to wait another 6 months for more testing.

We brought my DS#2's Bassett Hound home with us for being neutered. Had that done and now will have him till next week to take the stitches out. There had been some "discussion" of us keeping him, but DS is already missing him so I really believe he will be going "home". Him and his wife's dog haven't been getting along so hopefully being neutered will resolve that problem and he can stay at "home".So right now I have him and Buzz down in the garage to take out for their potty breaks several times a day.

Trying to catch up on posts and emails! So many after not being on the computer for a couple days! Have a good evening!

I hope everyone is weathering the snow and other wintry weather.

DH's medical tests came back and we have to wait another 6 months and do them again. So... no bad news, but still isn't good so we have to continue to watch.

Thanks for all the ecards sweetnell! They sure brighten the days!

DeBora, good for you and talking to your professor so he won't be changing things; that just makes it so much harder if he had!

Cat, I am glad the test results weren't bad. I hope the next set are good too.

Nell, sorry about the problems Audrey is having with stress. The Yerkes-Dodson law demonstrates that too little stress or too much stress can affect memory, attention, and coping skills. Maybe she can do relaxation skills or some other ideas to help reduce the stress she feels so she can do better in school. Also, does she have access to a school counsellor? That person could also give her some ideas for helping her stress. School can really stress a person out.

Tell them you heard Queensland rules LOL ... and we do.

The National Speleological Society is a organization to study, explore, and conserve cave and karst resources; protect access to caves; encourage responsible management of caves and their unique environments; and promote responsible caving.

I really doubt I'll run across them, but you never know!

Cat, I hope your dog does okay.

This was a WONDERFUL weekend! Two days of racing as Bobby raced in 2 races. We are now able to listen to all the drivers' radios. It was such a treat to listen to him all through the race. I was shocked that all those wrecks happened right in front of him and he missed them! I was so happy he finished Daytona without getting into somebody else's mess. Well, back to studying.

Hello Ladies! We are having real nice weather it is in the 60's ,the only down side is the wind is high. Our deer is out in packs,Audrey has seen five deer not once but three times as she goes out to the bus stop at the end of our street as we live on a deadend street. We went to see a friend yesterday & when we came home there was a doe in our nieghbors pasture that is back behind our house it was just eating out there with his horses lol. Anyway the deer will just stop eating for a few seconds then go back eating like there nothing to being out in the open. I worry about the ones that are beside the highway ,that they'll jump in front of someone and get hit.Well Audrey failed three classes ,her two math classes & her English the sad part she only fail english only by one point. Tomorrow is the English taks test, she gets to take it on-line though so it should be easier. They are trying to fix it so they can take all the taks test on -line next year . The higher grades already do it that way. They gave the freshmen in computer class this year a chance to do the english that way so I signed the paper & Audrey turn it in on time. She said there was only 10 freshmen that turn thier paper in out of about 80 students. Hope everyon has a great day!

Hope they get all those tests online; that sounds like it would be much less stress taking them; tell Audrey Good Luck!

Sounds like our weeather is close even though we are so many states away from each other sweetenell! It is 51 degrees here right now and the snow is really melting! We are having really high winds also and storms moving in tomorrow. I've got laundry going and keeping the dishes done after each meal as with so much wind and then the ground being so wet that is when we have trees come down and we loose power. I hate having dirty dishes in the sink and then not being able to just turn on the faucet and wash them! LOL When that happens I have to go over into the woods to our hand pump and haul water back to wash and heat it on the wood stove.

Have a good day!

Cat oh how I remember hand pumps. All of us grandkids would fight to be the one to do the pump. Oh what the good old days with out-houses & of course the chamber pots at night. The kids now days don't know what they are missing lol! Anyway hope all is having a great day!

Nell, sorry about Audrey's grades. Tell her to let me know if she needs help. English is my area. I could arrange a time that is good for both of us and we could chat. Otherwise, I wish her good luck in school!

Cat, now you've got me thinking about all the dirty dishes in my sink. I guess I should do them before I go to school tonight so I don't come home to dirty dishes.

I hope everyone is having a good day. I know mine is good since NASCAR season started yesterday and Bobby was in NO wrecks. I am having a difficult time motivating myself to study. I am just so ready to graduate! I have been pushing myself to do it though.

It's would be interesting to see where the cave people come from. Australia is almost the same size as the US only we have 6 states and 2 territories and the US has 51(?) states in the same area. Just my natural curiosity it does get me into trouble sometimes.LOL
Cat is right you just never know.
QUEENSLANDERS STILL RULE! :D
Hey have you done your dishes yet LOL, oh oh, do I need to run quickly and very fast so you can't catch me DeBora? Hope your study is going good.

How old is Audrey, what year level at school? I know our years at school are different a calendar year, my boys are in 12 final yr of high school and gr7 final yr of primary school. My eldest is finding it a challenge and we are only a month into the school year.

Me, I'm lucky I'm getting another car this week, maybe that is why I'm getting a little excited, I just hope my old car lasts for the trade in LOL

Kathy ,Audrey is 15 year old she is in her first year of High School .It is call 9th grade & they are called freshmen. She will have three more years of school after this year. She has a large group of kids that she hangs out with though they are all older than her.She talks to them on the phone alot but does not see them out unless she runs into them while we are out doing things. She does tend to frett over her classes so I think she gets over work up that causes a lot of her problem.I found out that she did pass English after all but did fail both math classes. Math is just really hard for her even my son had problems with math. Hope your son is finally getting settle in well at school. Here Audrey knows most of the kids as they have grown up togather in the school of course there is always the new kids also .It is just getting use to the difference in the way the higher classes are handle than the middle school.Does your kids have to that a special test like TAks test. Here If they don't pass it it before their 12th or last year of school they don't get to gradute from high school.Hope everyone is having a great day!Gool luck with getting a car!

Good Afternoon, I stumbled on your coffee club and thought I 'd join you for a bit. MAny of the names are familiar from FC so I feel pretty comfortable already. Sweetnell, have you checked if the school has tutors for your dd? If she has trouble with MAth maybe a little one on one would do the trick. Lucky you seeing the deers. My area has become so populated lately most of our wild life is gone. We did have problems with the coyte s going after the small dogs.

Welcome Cau! glad you jumped in it always great to have more to chit to.Audrey is able to get help, her main problem is going blank on the test. We found out when she was younger that she does better in small groups but at her school the classrooms run with about 25 to 30 kids to a class.Yes I love being able to see the deer,we even had a bobcat close to the house. There are plenty of raccoons & skunks around also. We live close to a lake with woods!

Nell, if Audrey's school doesn't have help as far as test anxiety, there are books that deal with it. They may have some ideas anyway. Does she have an IEP so that she can take her exams in small groups or alone as opposed to the entire classroom?

Cau, jump in anytime. You are always welcome!

Cathy, I am so excited for you that you are getting a new car! If you get a chance, you'll have to post pictures of it for us. Btw, you will never catch me at washing dishes while I am in the RV. It takes no time to wash dishes in that little place. You will have to wait until I am home in Carlsbad during spring break to beat me at cleaning. lol I could probably clean house without moving in the RV too. lol

Cat, I hope your day is going well too.

Well, I need to get off this computer and get back to studying. I have participants on the computers in the research lab and I am waiting for them to finish so I can be finished for the day as well.

Hi there. Now Bibly tells only half the truth. Queensland indeed!!
Victoria is actually 'the place to be'. Our car number plates even said so for a few years!!
Nell, sorry to hear about Audrey's struggles at school. We are having trouble getting my 12 yo son to settle at high school (Year 7). He doesn't understand why his mates from Church (all year 9 - 12) don't want the other Yr 7's hanging out with them. They are cool with my son, but don't want the others. JR just doesn't understand the social roles at play! He is also struggling to make friends in his year level and the older ones provide some self confidence I guess. They only mix on the bus.
DeBora, are those dishes done yet? I'll drop by and check if you're not careful!
Kathy, I hope to be in Qld the first week of May. We might be able to meet for a cuppa? I am trying to organise airfares and accommodation etc at the moment. I'm not sure where the conference is that I'm going to. I'll let you know.

Oh dishes! Since we don;t have a dishwasher and I'm it, they are never done here! LOL Seems they multiply in the sink! So I\'m forever doing dishes; I just try and keep up with them! LOL We didn;t loose power the other day so I didn't have to go haul water at least!

Got a call last night from a nephew; he and his family are enroute to a new armay base and then he will be back to the war for his third time. Changing companies so he got put back into an armory divsion and they just happen to be going. So I'm doiung some pickup and fixing some chicken breasts for sandwiches, potato salad, and a pot of chili ion case they are here at meal time. If not I won't have to cook a couple of days!

Meg, you might have to stop by and do my dishes. I know you will definately beat me today. I have decided to wait until tomorrow to wash my dishes. They only take a few minutes to wash in this little RV, but I am too tired to do them. lol Have fun on your trip!

Cat, good luck to your nephew on his move.

Cau, good to see you posting again! Jump in any time!

Nell, I hope things are going well.

My day went well. I conducted my first group/class at the mental health clinic. Things went well. I am enjoying all the clients too. I haven't come across anyone that I cannot work around. I am learning so much about various mental illnesses by being exposed to people who have them. I heard a lot about what everyone is giving up for lent today too. I am not Catholic or of a religion that practices it, but I did hear alot of people say they were giving up various foods. My boss said he is giving up beef and pork. I don't him that I would have a difficult time doing that. lol

Tonight in psychology and the law class we learned about various psychological tests. My teacher loves the Rorschach test. That's the ink blot test. It is an interesting test and nothing what I thought it was. I am going to post more about it later on my journal at FC.

Well, got a few more things to do before I go to bed. I didn't get all my stuff done in the lab today, so I have to go back tomorrow, on a day I usually don't work. But, I will have my data merged. My professor emailed me stating that there is some more behavioral stuff he needs done asap. I thought someone else was doing it, so I emailed him back to make sure he needs me to run subjects. The post-doc thought that he might have changed his mind. I guess I'll see later. I hope everyone has a terrific day tomorrow (Thursday).

I try that especially when I've been around anyone that has something or if we have to go to town to shop and are around lots of people. So far this winter I haven't had a really bad episode with tmy lungs; just a little more of winter to go! LOL

DeBora, have you thought of using paper plates when you can/ Just a thought; I know you have so much to do with work and school. I don't know how you keep up with all you do!

Sweetenell, hope Audrey is feeloing okay about all the tests and such; tell her hi! My nephew and his family didn't get to stop by; he looked at his papers late last night and had to report to Ft. Campbell today! Kids... what do you do! LOL They are going to try to come up before he ships out; his wife's family live in Indianapolis so thyat is only about 2 hours north of us so they can visit us all one weekend; they hope! So I have chili made, potato salad and some chicken breasts marinating I was going to cook on the grill for sandwiches. DH and I had chili for lunch and will have it and potato salad for supper, and I think I'll cook the chicken and freeze it for a quick meal another day.

DeBora, have you thought of using paper plates when you can/ Just a thought; I know you have so much to do with work and school. I don't know how you keep up with all you do!

Oh yeah. I keep paper plates on hand on those days when I just absolutely know I don't want to wash dishes. I also use them to send lunches home with DH. However, in this little RV it only takes me less than 10 minutes to wash dishes. They don't pile up more than a day or so because I don't have the space. I do cook for 2-4 because that is what my recipes call for and then heat up meals.

Cau, I hope your DGD gets to feeling better and I hope that you don't catch what she has. There seems to be some research that females' brains are better wired for language than math. But, she'll get it eventually.

I have a client where I work asked for some healthy recipes. So, when I have some time, I need to locate them and then transpose them into Spanish. lol She said that she liked to cook as I do. I will have to find time to do just that this weekend.

Hi there!!

Just trying to figure out what to serve for dinner tonight. It will just be me, DD and Luke. DH and Big DS are off at a Boy Scout event. I think they are nuts. It's called "Klondike Derby" and basically the boys pretend to be Iditarod dogs. They built a sled over the past month and the boys have to load it with what they need for a day, including a tent, pull it over a course, carry their own water, cook the meals, clean up, and assemble the tent with no help from the Senior Patrol Leader (that's Big DS). It is 21 degrees here with single digit wind chills and they're out for a 12-hour day.

She wants anything. But, I would have to say the basic good sense healthy cooking rather than specialty meals such as low-cal, low-salt, and so on. I am looking for meals that are high fiber, low fat, whole grains, and so on. Just basic good sense recipes.

Oh okay, just let me know if I can be of any help DeBora.

Barbszy, oh Klondike Derby! I used to love those when I was an assisitant scoutmaster! We would go out on Friday evening and stay till Sunday early afternoon. The boys always had a good time doing the event on Saturday afternoon. We usually had a snowy weekend which really "added " to the atomsphere! LOL Some troops would only come out for the day events, but all that stayed at least one overnight got a special patch saying "I made it ovennight at Klondike Derby"; it was lots of fun as long as you were dressed for the weekend! LOL One of those things I'm glad I did when I was a younger Mom as I don;lt think now I would appreciate it as muich! LOL
What did you end up fixing for your meal?

Sweetnell, hope you had a good shopping day!

I've spend the day just going through paperwork and getting things ready to take to our accountant. I've gotten so much better with keeping things together throughout he year. Barb, good luck getting your paperwork done and getting it to your accountant. DH said he finally got our forms in the mail and he can finally finish our taxes. I heard that I can deduct expenses that I develop as a result of school, including rent, electricity, but I would like to check that out, because when we first moved here I asked a tax preparation place and they said that I couldn't. If I can, then I was to go back and amend last year, after I scream at the lady at the tax preparation place.

DeBora check with someone, but I know you can deduct a percentage of an office in the home, but I don't know if school counts, but someone at the IRS should be able to answer you.

Well, just checking to make sure thiere wasn't something in email that I needed to tend to while in Louisville. I can't tell you how many times I haven't checked emails before I go only to find it contained something I should have taken care of while there. Have a good day all!

Today I'm taking a load of stuff to the recycle center before the next rains start on Thursday. Sun is out, but it is still cold 32 degrees out right now, but supposed to go up to 50 degrees latrer today. Hope it does! I plan on taking the sick dog out to her pen for about 30 minutes today to visit with her cat roommates. Didn't quite know what was wrong with her, but think I figured it out. Seems she was impacted which caused her not to eat which caused her to stay in the dog house and then she lost a lot of weight. So we brought her into the mudroom and put her a bed in a box with blankets and turned on the oil filled heater on her and now she's eating and getting her spunk back. AND everything seems to be on the road to working again! LOL So looking forward to her full recovery so she can go back outside for good! LOL The only way I could get her to start eating was feeding her ground beef, liver cheese, cheese(spoiled dog); I was at my wits end and figured anything to put some weight back on her would be good. I even bought her some vension dog food; now soon I'll have to get her back on her regular dog food! LOL Actually giving her some of that on the plate, but so far she's leaving that!

Well, have a good day!

I have to order my dd#1's new computer today. She is getting one of the Dells they have been advertising in the Sunday papaer. Her tax refund is burning a hole in her pocket. It is one of the basic ones but it does come with Vista Premium so I am hoping she(we) have no problems with it. She just want it to store pics and music and surf so hopefully it will be ok. Other ise I have to figgure out the medical for our taxes. Believe it or not even with no kids we made it on medical the last 2 years. At least I know where all our money goes. I hope we are done with that.
Catlover, glad your dog is feeling better. I have a greyhound who is the biggest baby going. He crys over everything and trys to climb in our laps. Our last cat cost us a chair and a coach before she left so while I love them I am a little bit afraid.

Okay, I have to ask...what were the bags for the pet rats for? I had pet rats long ago. My sons raised rats and mice for their snake food and I was always picking out the"cute" ones and taking them away from them for pets! LOL I have to say the rats were very smart, I had one that would go shopping with me. He would sit in my purse and of course when I opened it to pay at the register out would pop his head... scared many people! LOL

One time I was going for an oil change at one of those quick places and he would sit on my shoulder in the car looking out the side window. So when I pulled into the place and rolled down my window I thought this man was going to jump out of his skin... he says" do you know you have a rat sitting on your shoulder?" It was sooooo funny!

Going to go out and feed and water all the animals and check on some of the chickens that I just released earlier in the week. We've had a raccoon visiting again so hope they were raccoon smart!

Have a good day all! Sweetnell, where are you? Haven't seen you around in a few days!

Lizzie, I hope you enjoyed your day off!

Nell, I hope things slow down for you soon.

My hectic has finally slowed down. I had a meeting with my lab professor. He wants me to write a new program for a third experiment on a program that I am only familiar with as an experimenter and not as a programmer. He sure does have faith in me and I am so anxious about the whole thing. I hope I can do a good job. When I get that put together, if I ever get it put together lol, I will run the participants while I work the bugs out of the first program I ran last semester that we discovered has bugs in it. I didn't write that program and someone else ran the first 10-15 subjects, so we don't know if maybe the problem is that there is another version of the program and that is why it isn't jiving.

I hope everyone had a terrific hump day. I am going to send off a get -well card to Train on my way to class. I also have a doctor's appointment tomorrow in Ruidoso. I will talk to all later.

Glad to see you back Sweetnell! Hope your hectic running has sloweddown some for you. WOw, building a house can be so much fun! Have you drawn out somewhat of what plans you would like to use? My DH and I had done that several years ago when we first started thinkling of building our retirement home.We spent about a year on just our drawings changing things around. It sure sped things along when we finally went to the log home people, they sent those drawings to the engineers and then on to the other people for the "official" drawings. Good Luck!

DeBora, good luck on your computer programming; it can be a hassle to try and figure out what someone else did that isn't working, good luck on that!

We have had storms off and on since 2 am this morning so while they have stopped I'd thought I'd get online and take a peek at the forums. The cats and the dogs woke me up about a 1/2 hour before they started so I knew the weather people must have been right about what was coming. We are supposed to have bad storms all day. Good day Ladies! DeBora you will come up with a great program I know! Cat we have been looking at house plans for quite awhile , its just finding the right one. We want split bedrooms, two baths,& the rest of the house pretty open. Nothing fancy here just somthing simple with plenty of storage room. Our lot is a long narrow one so it can't be too wide. Dh was going to call afriend that has known me since I was a baby to talk to him.He was the one that build my parents home & the house that we are living in now.As being busy it might slow down after schools out lol.Anyway have a great day everyone!

Glad to see you sweetnell! Good Luck on finding "the one" on the house plans. It is so much fuin doing the shopping for the goodies to go in it!

Rain stopped here awhile and now we are under a tornado watch and more bad weather coming in this afternoon. I'll be glad when it is over!

Going to check some more emails and such and then get the computer closed down again! Have a good afternoon!

Good Luck on the new home sweetnell, while I love this house I have always wanted an open living room/kitchen. I am a kitchen person while dh is a coach person so it would be so nice to see & hear each other. O well, Catlover, we are having reallly bad storms also, it just let up so I thought I check in for a while.
DBora, the new computer is due sometime tomorrow so I will have it set up by Saturday and give Vista a try & will let you know.

Cau & Cat hope the bad weather move quickly pass both of you. I prayer that your families will be safe! With the lot we own down the street from dh's parents, it would be nice to have a open kitchen, eating & family room so all the family could meet there but inlaws would be where they would be close to home.Anyway yes it will be fun picking out what we want in it.Gotta go as its time to leave to take Audrey to karate, catch you later!

That is what we did an open floor plan. Our great room is divided from the kitchen with a breakfast bar and the office is in a corner at the door when you come up the steps. I love it all open! We have catherdal ceilings too so those are 16 feet at the peak. We have a gambrel (barn roof) roof so the roof comes down to the four foot knee wall on the sides. None of our rooms have closed ceilings either; all open ceiling rooms so the heat and cool air travel great! Just so much fun to plan, good luck and most importantly... have fun!

I guess I am the oddball here. I hate open floor plans! We live in a split level home and the living room is open to the kitchen, dining room and family room. It's nice because people can interact--but the noise drives me nuts!!! We think that when we have visitors we can use the living room & let kids play in the family room, but we can't hear to talk to each other because the kids are playing in the other room.

This might be partially due to the fact that I am very easily distracted by sound. DH can tune out all kinds of noise around him; I go crazy with several noise sources at once. He says I have "super sensitive ears." (I think he has a hearing problem. Every morning I sit in my chair here and can hear the neighbor's kid's car radio through a CLOSED WINDOW while he lets it warm up for 15 minutes. DH has to go outside and half across the yard before he can hear the radio.)

Barbszy, I am so much the same way about noise. I have such a hard time concentrating when there are other noises around me.

One of my pet peeves is people who chew loudly. My son and husband both say that I have super-sensitive ears, but I think my husband has a hearing problem too (or maybe it's just selective hearing).

The one plan that we have found that we both agreed on so far has the family room with a dining room combination, the kicthen is with a snack bar so you can still be part of whats going on in the other rooms but sits kinda off from them two rooms. the main thing is the master bedroom is away from the other two bedrooms & has its own bathroom with a nice size shower as I've gotten to where it is easier to take a shower as I have problems getting out of a tub . So far we both like this one. Audrey has already told us she wants a wood floor in her room so she can pratice her dancing lol.I do know I prefer carpet in my bedroom but not sure about the other rooms yet. We know someone that can pour the foundation, someone that does flooring. Also dh did talk to my builder freind & he say he'd be happy to build it for us.Now we just got to talk to our good friend the banker. So who knows we might be able to have it built this summer maybe, fingers cross! I know hie parents would be thrilled. His dad is 81 & his mom will be 78 so it would be nice to spend time with them, but I would still be here for mom also. Well tonight the teacher at karate started working with Audrey to get her ready to test for her black belt ,it would be nice if she can get it this summer!Have a good night everyone!

Cau, I look forward to your report! Also, I just wanted to say that all during last month, it was so difficult not to let on that I was you SS! I had such a blast.

Lizzie, I thought ALL men had selective hearing? lol I think the more politically correct term would be, "

I guess I am the oddball here. I hate open floor plans!

Our place in Carlsbad is so very open. The family room and kitchen are basically one big room. There are large glass windows on the walls between the dining room and the family room and between the dining room and the living room. So, I can see through to most of the house with those windows and I LOVE it. I can either see or hear everyone, except those in a bed.

Nell, congratulations on the new house. It is so much fun to place a house! When it is finished, we want pictures. Feel free to send me pictures of the floor plan. I would love to see them if you have them.

Tell Audrey that I will be thinking of her and cheering for her as she strives for her black belt. I know she will have no problem. In fact, something just occurred to me. Do you think that some of Audrey's problem in her school could have anything to do with her being so kinesthetic? I know many people, such as my DH and DS, who are tactile learners. They had such difficult time because they learned best by what the DID with their hands and bodies and learned least by what they just heard and/or saw. I don't know why I didn't think to ask that before as that is one assessment I do with new students that I beginning tutoring. Anyway, I don't doubt that Audrey will do excellantly in getting her black belt. We want pictures when she does too!

Well, I have a few things to do and then I need to get to bed. I have to be a subject in a research lab. I don't know what I will be a guinea pig for, but it is weird since I am used to being the experimenter instead of the experimentee. lol

It is almost TGIF all! Btw, I posted some funnies on post #180 of my journal (http://www.familycorner.com/forums/showthread.php3?t=16412&goto=newpost) at FC.

DeBora we are still in the planning stage but when we decide for sure & get the green light that we can build,I'll have one of the kids send apicture of the plans & what outside will look like. You know I never thought about the way Audrey learns in the different area's. I know in karate she go over everything she's learn til she gets it down well the same with her dances she does them over & over til she has the steps down right. It'll be a few months before she test for belt I think then again there is one teacher that thinks its about time for her to test. There's just some of the things that she has to know that has not been taught to her as yet,but the black belt working with her tonight show her the blocks that you use your legs with. Also some moves to get out of the differnt grips let someone grabbing you around the neck from the front & back angles. Anyway they know what she knows & what she needs to work on. If she got her black belt she would be a bigger help in teaching the class also, she would only be a junior black belt as they are not allow to get their first stripe until age 17. Hope all goes well for you at school tomorrow. Have a good night!

Lizzie, I thought ALL men had selective hearing? lol I think the more politically correct term would be, "

Oops! I forgot the name. I had real good name and then wanted to come up with one better, and then I forgot to go back up and put the name. :o

Anyway, I know there is a joke for the name of what men have who have selective hearing have. lol

Since it is the first of the month, I don't have to go to Anthony tomorrow. However, next week, I will have to stay late to go to a meeting. The only thing that I am doing it participating in an experiment for extra credit.

Nell, if Audrey is a tactile type of learner, have her try studying while she is doing karate kicks or some sort of exercise. You may have to remind me about what some of her problems are in which areas, but I bet getting her physically involved in learning rather than just reading or listening, I bet she might have more success. My DS is a tactile learner. I would get shaving cream and have him do math problems in the cream.

There are also so simple computer tests that tests what type of learner a person is. I am visual. So, I tend to do better by what I see. Anyway, that is what popped in my mind for some reason.

I just know Audrey is going to do well getting her black belt. I know this is something so very special to her too!

Well, I guess I had better get to sleep soon.

I just filled out another round of disability papers. I swear the government things if they send you enough paper work you will just give up. Just needed to vent. All is fine here.

cat lover
03-06-2007, 12:51 PM
Cau, don't let all the rounds discourage you! When I had to fill them out several years ago for my DH we went two years appealing! And each time the paper stack got larger and larger and we had to see more and more of the SS doctors. Also, if at any time your visits with the SS doctors doesn't go well and you think they didn't look at what they need to or the tests aren't done correctly defineltely write a letter and enclose that with your next round of paperwork. Keep a record of everyone you even talk to, date and time also, and keep a copy of all that paperwork you send them. By the time we were done after two years I had a small box full; but I didn't have to pay a lawyer to do it all for me!

What you had said about them wanting you to give up is exactly what I was told in the SS office when I took DH the first time. I was actually told they will turn it down up to three times figuring you'll just give up! Guess they figure if it is a true disability you'll keep going, but I wonder about all the deserving people that may have gave up just not knowing. Well, good luck anyway!

Took Dh to the dentsist yesterday in Louisville and spent the day there doing some errands and some things we just don't always have time to do.

Have a headache today on one side when I lean over! Took some aspirin and figure it is sinus or something and of course there is no meds I can take for that!

I put some banana-gingerbread bread in the oven and it smells sooo good. Thinking of fixing a tuna dish to go with it, but not sure yet!

Have a good day all!

We have a brooder box full of baby chicks and one of my incubators is full of eggs. So we should have lots of new babies soon. We have to go get another pen so we can set up our 7 th pen! Going to move the guineas into their own pen(just ones that I keep penned for breeding); all the others are free range. I've let several out when we have had some warm weather and they all seem to be doing well together.

Getting seeds started in the green house also; in fact I should be out there now! LOL

It was one of those things I got free with a coupon but would never ordinarily buy....we are not big flavored rice eaters. But it's nice to have in a pinch, and I was in a bit of a pinch for time today. ANYWAY, normally those packets make 4 servings and I just assumed....well, we all know what happens WHEN YOU ASSUME....this thing only makes 2 servings!

Glad spring break went well and that Audrey likes her boots. Will have to be sure she doesn't wear them out before the hike! LOL Something she may want to take with her on the hike would be some mole skin in case she rubs a spot on her feet. Nothing worse than being on a long hike like that for days and that happen. When I did part of the Appalachian Trail I was very glad that I had it with me; we did ten miles per day and no where to get anything except what you had with you. And I wore my regular hiking boots that I had for quite awhile and wore every weekend trip once a month. I know she will have fun and later in life be so glad she did the trip!

It is a cotton flannel padding that is self adhesive that you put on spots on your feet to help with pain from any type of shoe friction .Dr. Scholl's is the brand I have always used, but I'm sure any brand will work. It is usually sold in the pharmacy area of stores like walmart. Iti s a small pkg and flat and as long as you have something to cut it with you can cut of whatever shape you need to use. Walking those long days you never know when you might end up needing to have it and be glad you did.
Wool socks are good for that type of long walks also and if they get wet your feet won't get cold. Your best bet would to be go into a sporting goods store andf tell them what type of hike she is going on and they can usually direct you in the right direction for socks and other foot care that would be very useful for her. You can always go in there and look around and probably get he stuff at a discount store after you know what you need. Foot care ranks high on that type of hike!

Was Wild Hogs as funny as the previews they have shown on TV or was that theonly funny parts in the movie? I'm been disappointrd before when I saw a movie after I relaized they showed the only funny parts in the preview and there wasn't any more in the movie! LOL

Rain coming in today so as soon as it gets light I'm going out and feed and water and maybe try a few more things outside before it hits (I hope). It is only 38 degrees right now, but supposed to go up to the 50's today. Hey, this is the last day of winter!

Have a good day all!

Thanks Cat! As for the movie I thought it extremely funny all the way thru. What my dh didn't was some of the lanuage & some of the jokes, but he is picky about things like on the other hand I didn't think it was that big of deal. Well getting Audrey up to get ready to catch the bus, this the first day she has to catch the bus since the time change & it is still dark ,she does not like the dark so she's not happy about standing in the dark lol.Hope everyone has a good day!
