oz = ounce

tsp = teaspoon

tbsp = tablespoon

3 tsp = 1 tbsp

4 tbsp = 1/4 cup

5 1/3 tbsp = 1/3 cup

8 tbsp = 1/2 cup

10 2/3 tbsp = 2/3 cup

12 tbsp = 3/4 cup

16 tbsp = 1 cup

1 cup = 8 fluid oz

1 cup = 1/2 pint

2 cups = 1 pint

4 cups = 1 quart

4 quarts = 1 gallon

2 tbsp butter = 1 oz

1 stick butter = 1/2 cup

1 square of cooking chocolate = 1 oz

Juice of 1 lemon = 3/4 tbsp

1 cup sour milk = 1 tbsp lemon juice OR vinegar, plus sweet milk to make 1 cup

Allow 1 gallon of food ( salads, scalloped dishes, beans, rice, etc.) for 25 people

A little granulated sugar sprinkled over baked pie shell will keep shell crisp when filled with cream filling

When mashing potatoes, use part of the potato water with the milk. This retains vitamins, saves on ,ilk, and makes the potatoes fluffier

If a little milk is added to the water in which cauliflower is cooking it will retain white

Conversion to Metric Measurements


1/4 tsp = 1ml

1/2 tsp = 2 ml

1 teaspoon = 5 milliliters

1 fluid ounce = 29.57 milliliters OR 0.029 liter

1 cup = 0.236 liter OR 250 milliliters

1 pint = 0.473 liter

1 pint, dry = 0.551 liter

1 U.S. quart = 0.833 British quart OR 0.946 liters

1 U.S. quart, dry = 1.101 liters

1 U.S. gallon - 0.833 British gallon OR 3.785 liters
