First, coffee, any kind
Second, hot cocoa or apple cider
Third : Holiday Punch

For a 15 cup coffee pot mix:
1 1/2 qts cranberry juice
2 qts apple juice
Put into the basket of the coffeepot:
1/2 cup brown sugar
3-5 cinnamon sticks
1/2 - 1 tsp ground cloves
Perk the coffeepot normally and serve.

Sometimes I make this in the winter and refrigerate it and then just heat in the microwave by the cup full.

It is really good. It is one of those recipes I used to fix every Christmas back when we had family over for the holidays. I liked it so much and then that is when I decided I could still fix it and just heat it in the microwave when I want some since it was already perked and ready to go. Now I don't have to wait for compnay to have it! LOL

In addition to the cocoa, teas (Earl Gray, Lady Gray, Jasmine, Red Zinger, Christmastime tea), and coffees (flavored creamers, cappuccinos and frothy lattes, (and let's not forget the Bailey's coffee and Irish Mist coffee) In the cold weather I love.. (yes love)... chai tea with cream and sugar. It's spicy and sweet and creamy and warm and so wonderful in the cold weather. It's one tea I only drink in the cooler months. As a matter of fact, I'll go have a cup right now :D

Most definitely hot chocolate!! I don't drink coffee. I also love hot tea. But my favorite is hot chocolate--sometimes with a shot of Baileys, or a bit of Chocolate-Hazelnut liquor. So I'll be trying the PBHC, Cat lover--it sounds like something the kids will like, too!!

This is another cool weather drink I like. I fix it and just heat it throughout the day by the mug in the microwave

Hot Lemonade Tea

6 cups water
1/4 cup sugar
1 (6 oz) can frozen lemonade concentrate
3 cinnamon sticks
4 tea bags

In a large saucepan combine the water, sugar, lemonade concentrate and cinnamon sticks. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Add tea bags and cover. Let stand about 15 minutes and remove tea bags. Makes about 12 servings

I love hot apple cider. This is the greatest time of year to have it also. I will have to try some of the ones mentioned above. There are some great ones I have never tried.

A winter warmer drink I like is on the weekend after dinner is a warm cup of milk with a dash of Tia Maria, so nice, warm and relaxing.
During the day nice cup of tea or at night a hot chocolate or cocoa.

Lemonade tea sounds interesting but don't know where or what you can do for the "frozen lemonade concentrate"? Never heard of it.

Here in the states we can get concentrated juices frozen in either 6 ounce or 12 ounce cans. All we do is add the listed amount of water, stir and we have a large pitcher of juice. I suppose you could just start with the amount in the recipe of already finsihed and mixed lemonade. Can you get powdered drink mixes, such as Wyler's lemonade mix or Country Time powdered lemonade mix? Or I guess even powdered Kool-Aid lemonade would work.

Ahhh mixing up the juice, I now remember seeing in the refrigerated section the concentrate juices, but I've never bought them.
Powdered milk additives like milo and quick you can buy. I think a lot of the time it's that we don't have your brand names here and that throws me out, maybe I should just look closer at what's actually on the shelves as if I don't need it I don't look and it will be a different label.
I need to pay more attention LOL

I thought this looked interesting
Crockpot Hot Apple Cider

Ingredients:
1 gallon apple cider or juice
12 whole cloves
3 sticks cinnamon
2 whole nutmegs
2 large pieces crystallized ginger

Place all ingredients in crockpot. Heat on high for 2 hours,
and on low to keep warm until ready to serve. This makes
about 20 servings. Keep another batch ready to go in the
kitchen in a second crockpot or in a large pan on the
stove simmering at the lowest temperature.

Nell, have you thought about using a candy cane as a stir stick on hot cocoa or even adding a tiny drop of peppermint oil to your cocoa? I bet you would get the same effect. You could also smash peppermint sticks and sprinkle them in hot cocoa to make it sparkle and give it a minty taste. It could be sprinkled in with the marshmallows.

A nice peppermint pattie or two stirred into the hot cocoa is good too! Anything to get more chocolate!LOL

I've been drinking a lot of black tea already flavored with lemon and using honey as a sweetener. Has helped the throat problems I've had too! Sometimes in the evening I add a little whiskey!

Gotta have:

Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane Tea

only available at Christmas, so I stock up. Bought 5 boxes in early November and already down to 2 boxes!

Onemore, Welcome to Moms Menu! I have never tried the candy cane flavored tea. I am not much of a mint fan unless it is fresh mint from the leaves. But, if you are a fan, I bet the candy cane flavor would be cool for Christmas.

Someone else I know recommended that tea but I haven't seen it in the stores. Guess it's already gone for the season...

I love hot cocoa, but I try to drink the sugar-free stuff to watch my caloric intake. I wish I liked tea, since it has so many good things going for it, but I just don't care for it.

I have two fav's. First is hot spiced cider, my mother makes her own seasoning mix. Second is hot chocolate with a splash of peppermint schnaps.

The candy cane lane tea sounds really good, too.

I don't know if you have one in your area, but the only place I can find it here is Wegmann's. It's not in the other grocery stores here (Giant, Bloom, Safeway). I go to W's at Christmas time just for that tea!!

Thanks! I do have a Wegmans in my area. Love the store, but it sure is a budget buster with all the specialty items they have  I have had to limit myself to once a month or less, to get the things that I can't find anywhere else. LOL!

DeBora4BobbyL
12-23-2007, 05:54 PM
I have never heard of this Wegmans. It must be a Yankee store. lol

In the eastern part of Texas, there are plenty of Krogers. But, in West Texas and most of NM, the only thing that we have are Albertson's and Walmart. I don't like the choices because we have a choice between good service and high prices or poor service, low prices, and large crowds (Walmart)!!!! I would love to have more choices.

:P Yes, DeBora, it's a Yankee store. A fabulous one, too. Maybe one day you'll luck out and they'll expand south and west.

Herbal tea, especially lemon honey. I like almost all the herbal ones and I love to add honey to really warm me up.
