I just replaced my oven mitts. The ones I had were starting to disintegrate in the "finger" area--right where you need the padding the most.
I'm not happy with any of the mitts I am finding out there. None of them are as thick as what I had before (and the store where I bought them has closed).
What kind of oven mitts do you use, and why do you like them?

Except for the African-American ones that I got for decorations, I usually get the los cheapos! LOL! When Bobby was racing for Cannon, I got a bunch of hand towels, hand towels with ties, oven mitts, and pot holders that are green with the 18 on then. I used them to decorate my 5th wheel. I still have my kitchen and bedroom decorated with that theme. He no longer has Cannon as a sponsor, so I guess no more free kitchen stuff! LOL However, he still has Coke, so maybe I'll be able to get some free drink? LOL
I too buy the el cheapos. Would like to have soke of the good old thick ones. Where on earth do they have them?

Coll, the Cannon oven mitts and pot holders are the only ones that I didn't pay for and they are the thickest. I got them at a racing party. But, you might try doing a search for Cannon products and see where they sell oven mitts and pot holders.

We had the same problem but I solved ours by buying grill mitts. They are longer ( great for my DH) and heavier. Granted, they are not nearly as pretty so I keep them hidden until I need them. ;)

The oven mitts I got from Pampered chef are excellent. They practically come up to my elbows, and are well insulated and thick, without beiing too bulky. They launder very well, and although were pricy at $10 each, .. I haven't needed any others in the past five years. ( and I haven't burned myself either!)
I have heard that the silicone mits are awesome.. I am just too chicken to try an oven mitt I can see through. LOLOL

I didn't know they made oven mitts. I did buy a silicon muffin pan for my RV. It works fine, but I haven't grabbed it with my hands while it was hot either. LOL

I tried on those silicone mitts. I had a "texture problem" with them. To me they felt slimy. I guess I just need the fabric kind.
Yes, the Pampered Chef ones ARE good. Had some of those way back when. They probably are the way to go.

I personnally do not like to use oven mitts. They never fit my hand right and are difficult for me to use. I just use one or two potholders folded over the edge of the pan.

Good to see you here Sharlibird! If I can be of any help to you let me or anyone else here know! We can all share some good information here so Welcome Aboard!
I usually use my kitchen towels; I have some regular pot holders that are square and you slide you whole hand in them, but they are so thick I usually end up almost dropping things because I can't get the right "feel"! Got them at Kmart about three years ago.

I realize this is an old thread but I love my silicone grabber pot hilder. It is very small and my fingers just go inside the flaps. It works very well! If I am in a hurry and I don't see it then i usually just use a kitchen towel folded.

No problem, it is nice when someone visits a thread that hasn't had activity in awhile; sometimes it gets them going again! I have seen those, but never up close; I've often wondered if they are flexbile enough for good use? Maybe you can answer that for me?

I just saw the thread too! I don't like extra thick mitts because I can't 'feel' what I'm doing so I use pot holders ...a little worn is better because they fold easier. I have an old set of Cuisinart ones that I'm going to be in mourning over when they go!

I will have to try to use some of the silicone ones. I do not even want to tell you want I am still using to get the pots out of the oven, but it is not good.

gabsmom123; okay... you can't leave us hanging like that! LOL What are you using?
I asked my DH to remove something from the oven the other day for me and he grabbed the welder gloves that we use with the wood stove. They worked great for him, but I still like something less heavy also to "feel" what I'm doing.
