Canola oil spray
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. salt
1 large egg
1/4 cup honey
2 Tbsp. canola oil
1/4 - 1/2 tsp. grated orange peel
3 Tbsp. applesauce
2/3 cup pitted and chopped dates
1/3 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350. Lightly spray 8" baking pan with canola oil spray and set aside. In large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. In small bowl, mix egg, honey, canola oil, orange peel and applesauce. Stir egg mixture into dry ingredients until blended. Stir in dates and walnuts. Spread mixture into prepared pan. Bake until tested inserted into center comes out clean, about 25 minutes. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into 16 squares. Makes 16 servings.
