I have to quickly come up with a dish to take to a potluck and we don't have any money to buy anything so I have to use what we have on hand.

How does this sound? And please be honest. http://mainstreetmom.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

ground turkey - browned & drained
rice
cream of mushroom soup

Options:
could also put green beans in it
could also put french fries on top of it

I also have mac & cheese and thought about doing mac & cheese with the ground turkey.

Please let me know how you feel about any or all of these options. Thanks!

It does sound interesting. I say go for it. Have you thought about topping it with a bit of cheese?

I would love to add some cheese but we don't have any. It is the end of the month for us and our cupboards are pretty bare. Pretty much all I have is what I posted. Thanks, though!

I totally understand what you mean. I do like your idea. I think it would work, even without cheese. You never know, you may get ppl wanting the recipe and they'll never know. lol

I think either one of your idea will work fine. I can totaly relate to the bare cupboard as we don't get pay except every two weeks.

Have you noticed that events requiring you to bring something always seem to come when your cupboards are bare and the case is low? lol

I think your first idea sounds good! Maybe throw some black pepper or chili powder in it if you have one of those on hand to just add a little spice. The green beans added to it should work too! Good luck!

Thank you all for the wonderful help! I cooked up the hamburger and then I had to go pick up my grandson so my husband ended up choosing what to make. He had found some tater tots and made a Hamburger Tater Tot Casserole. He also made some plain mac & cheese for the kiddos to enjoy. When I got back with the baby it was all done and we were ready to go!

Thanks, again, everyone! You are all great!!

I make Mac and cheese and put on top of ground beef mix, pop in the oven for a bit to crust over. One of the kids faves.
With or without veges in the mince is good to.

Do you cook the meat loaf first and then just add the mac and cheese towards the end or? Please share your recipe here with us on it. It sounds interesting!

I cook my mince (ground beef, chicken, pork etc) as I would for spaghetti bologanise or a savoury mince (loose). Place in an oven proof dish.
Cook my mac and cheese as per usual and put on top of the cooked mince mix. Sprinkle on a little extra cheese (can mix grated cheese with parsley).
Cook in moderate oven (180*C/375*F) until cheese is golden brown.
Serve with grren beans or as is.
This is actually what I'm doing for dinner tonight.

I bet the kids would like that next time they come up; will have to try it on them!

Another idea is to cook the mince with whatever herbs or flavouring you have, cover the whole lot with mashed potato and sprinkle some grated cheese on it. I sometimes slice a tomato over the meat before adding the mashed potato. It is very yummy. Marj

That is good too, are you talking of a Shepherd's Pie?
