My neighbor gave us a 3-lb package of smoked beef sausage, about the size of hot dogs. I was thinking of putting them in a crockpot with some sauerkraut, like I would with kielbasa. Do you think that would work? We don't have a grill, and we've never eaten this type of sausage before.

Barb, that should work just fine, almost any sausage, or hot dog recipe can be interchanged without much difference other than the spicyness due to changing the meat.

Here's another recipe for smoked sausages of either beef or pork. Even hot dogs , kielbasa works in this!

Sausage Stew

1 lb. smoked sausage cut into 1/2" slices
1 lb fresh mushrooms
1 cup cutup onion
1 cup bell pepper cut into chunks
2 tsp garlic, chopped 1 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 cup beer
1 tbsp cornstarch
cooked pasta

Place sausages, all veggies, seasonings and beer in crockpot. Stir to mix. Cover and cook on LOW 8 - 9 hours or HIGH 4 - 5 hours. To thicken the liquid; turn setting to HIGH. In another container mix cornstarch with 2 tbsp cold water to blend. Add to sausage mixture and stir. Cook 8 minutes; liquid will slightly thicken. Serve over pasta. Serves 4
