Chilis Rellenos Casserole

2 8-oz cans chopped green chilis
1 cup grated montery Jack cheese
3 beaten eggs
1/4 cup milk
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground red peppers
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Picante sauce and sour cream (optional)

In a medium bowl, combine eggs and milk. Add flour, baking powder, red pepper, and salt. Beat until smooth. In medium bowl, add peppers, cheese, and batter. Bake uncovered in a 450 degree oven for 15 minutes or until a knife inserted inside comes out clean. If desired, serve with picante sauce and sour cream. Serves 4.

It isn't as good as the real thing, but the real thing is such a pain to make. This is very easy.

Well we have never had the real thing so we won't have anything to compare it to so I'm sure we will like this one a lot.

Okay, I'm confused, LOL; what is difficult to make the "real thing"? I've never had either so I have no idea!

One of the things you have to do with the real thing is to blister the chilis over an open fire. Then, you have to place them in a bag for 20-30 minutes. Then you have to peel the skin off. Of course, that is before you stuff them and dip them into a batter and fry them. They are soooo good, but such a pain to make the right way.
