If you have read Jonni McCoy's last book, "Miserly Moms," then you already know how to stretch your grocery money. Her new book, "Miserly Meals," takes that one step further by showing you how to make healthy, tasty recipes for under $.75 per serving.
HANDLING
"Miserly Meals" is a soft cover book with one recipe per page. The table of contents is in logical order, starting with "appetizers" and ending with "desserts." Jonni has even included special chapters on turkey, slow cooking and homemade mixes. The back of the book includes three indexes: general, recipe and tips. It's easy to find exactly what you are looking for in this book.
ORIENTATION
The cover has a wonderful graphic that is not overpowering - just what you'd expect from Jonni. The text within the book is clean and easy to read. The ingredients are listed on the left, nutrition at the right with lines to set it apart, and the recipe directions follow below. At the very bottom of each recipe you'll find the cost per serving, followed by a tip written in italics. This simple format is repeated for every recipe. No surprises, no searching - info is in the same spot, right where you expect it to be.
MODERN
The recipes within this book are perfect for today's busy families. I can easily see myself making 85% of them for my own family of seven. Before I ever sat down to write this review, I picked out a few to make: Enchilada Casserole (p. 145), Spanish Rice (p. 70) and Boston Chicken (p. 87). They were inexpensive, easy to make and delicious! I have many cookbooks that are just not practical for my family, but this one fits right in with our lifestyle.
ESSENCE
I found the tips at the end of each recipe to be very informative. How often do you find yourself reading a cookbook for pleasure? This book will give you great recipe ideas, and you'll probably learn something new from the tips. I know I will

to appreciate freshness and to transform ingredients into tasty foods opens their eyes to making wiser choices about what to eat...
