Applesauce Cookies

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup butter or margarine (1 stick) -- see note
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup applesauce
1 egg -- well-beaten
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup raisins

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Stir together flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Stir baking soda
into applesauce; add egg. Combine with the butter and sugar mixture. Gradually mix in flour mixture. Stir in nuts and raisins. Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 or 3 inches apart onto a greased baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes.
