Click here for a printable version of this recipe

2 cups Flour
2 tsp. Baking Powder
1 tsp. Salt
1 cup Sugar

In a large bowl, combine flour, salt & baking powder. Layer mixture and
other ingredients in order given in a 1 quart canning jar. It is helpful to
tap jar lightly on a padded surface (towel on counter) as you layer
ingredients to make all ingredients fit neatly. Use scissors to cut a 9
inch-diameter circle from fabric of your choice. Center fabric circle over
lid and secure with a rubber band. Tie on a raffia or ribbon bow to cover
the rubber band. Attach a card with the following directions:

Grandma's White Cake

Remove top layer of sugar from jar and place into a large mixing bowl. Add
1 cup Vegetable Oil (Grandma used lard :0) and 2 eggs, then cream together.
Add 1 cup Milk and 1 tsp. Vanilla. Mix well, then add remaining contents
of jar and blend until smooth. Pour into a greased & floured 9 x 13 inch
cake pan, and bake at 350 degrees F for 35 - 40 minutes, or until a knife
inserted into center of cake comes out clean. Cool, and frost as desired.
