Brown Beans, Swedish Style 1 3/4 cups dried brown beans 5 cups water 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1/3 cup white vinegar 1/2 cup dark corn syrup 2 T. brown sugar ------------------------------------- Wash beans. Turn into saucepan & add 5 cups water. Soak overnight. Set saucepan over high heat & bring water to boiling point quickly. Reduce heat & cook over low heat about 1 hour. Add remaining ingredients & continue cooking over very low heat for another hour, or until mix thickens & beans are tender. If it doesn't thicken enough to suit your taste, remove the cover, turn up heat & stir while cooking for 5-10 minutes more. If the beans thicken too much add 1/4- 1/2 cup water. Makes 4 servings.
