Cherry Pecan Bread

2 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter or margarine
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. chopped maraschino cherries, drained

Stir together first 3 ingredients.
In large mixing bowl, cream together butter, sugar, eggs & vanilla til
fluffy. Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to creamed
mixture. Beat just til blended after each addition.
Fold in pecans & cherries. Turn batter into greased loaf pans (for
gifts, I use small ones). Stud with pecan halves and halved cherries, if desired.
Bake 55-60 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove from pan; cool on wire rack.
