SO EZ: 1 C WATER, 2 1/2 C flour 1 pkg yeast 1 Tbsp sugar Mix all together, let rise. After first rise, roll into a 12 x 8 rectangle. Cut in half so you have 2 and simply roll each one up. (sometimes I'll add things inside, shredded cheese, garlic butter, etc...) and use some water as "paste" to seal up the seam. Sort of roll each of the four ends into a snake at the very end (understand this?) so it seals it. Then slash each roll 2-3 times and cover with towel and let rise again. When done, CAREFULLY and lightly brush with 1 egg yolk _ 1 Tbsp water, may sprinkle poppy or sesame even onion flakes on top. Bake 375 for 20 minutes. CHECK though, you want an even GOLDEN BROWN and when you remove frm oven, it will sound hollow when tapped. Perfect for sandwiches, French Dips! I use this recipe ALL the time b/c it's SO EASY and versatile. You can even STUFF the inside before rolling up with pizza items, ham, swiss & mustard, etc..... |
