french onion soup

Click here for a printable version of this recipe

1 bag of onions. (I use yellow onions....for a change I have used Vidalia onions...but this is a little too sweet for some)
4 cans of beef broth.
french bread
provolone

sautee the onions thinly sliced in some butter....I usually use a stick. then i add spices to taste. (black pepper...bay leaf) once the onions are transparent, I put them in a big soup pot and add the beef broth. Boil for ten minutes...then lower temp and add 2 tbsp of flour. (sometimes I keep adding flour until I achieve the desired consistency.)

I fill a soup bowl up with the french onion soup mix. then I put two slices of french bread on top--top that with a slice of provolone and place in the oven under the broiler just long enough to melt the cheese....

This is a quick, relatively cheap hot meal. Its delicious.
