1 cup packed brown sugar, 1 cup butter or margarine--softened, 1 egg separated, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2 cups flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon ground cardamom, 1 can (5 ounces) diced roasted almonds | | | Heat oven to 275 degrees. Mix brown sugar, margarine, egg yolk and vanilla. Sit in flour, salt and cardamon. Spread in ungreased jelly roll pan, 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch. Brush with unbeaten egg white. Sprinkle with walnuts; press down lightly. Bake one hour. While warm, cut into 2 1/2 inch squares, then cut each square diagonally into halves. Cool |
