Beef Mexicana

1 large onion--sliced,
2 tablespoons shortening,
1 pound ground beef,
2 cans tomato sauce,
1 can whole kernal corn (1 1/2 cups),
1 teaspoon salt,
1/4 teaspoon pepper,
Chili powder(optional
Cook onion in hot fat until tender. Add beef; cook and stir until lightly browned. Stir in tomato sauce, corn and seasonings. (If your family likes "hot dishes", add a generous pinch of chili powder). Simmer gently about 30 minutes. Serve with rice, hot corn bread, or on toasted hamburger buns. 4 servings.
